I switched from my iPhone 13 to the iPhone SE 2022 as my main phone and today I’m going to share my experience. But first, why? Good question. These days more than ever, flagship phones are becoming more expensive and more affordable phones are getting better. If you’re currently using an iPhone X, 11 or 12 and are thinking of upgrading, do you still need to spend $800 on the iPhone 13 or is the new $429 iPhone SE the better value option? The biggest difference between the iPhone 13 and iPhone SE, aside from price, is the design. The iPhone 13 features Apple’s newer more sharp design, with thin bezels surrounding it’s stunning 6.1” OLED display. It also has Face ID and a dual camera system, one of the best camera systems on any phone, just behind the iPhone 13 Pro. I consider myself a power use and use my phone for many hours each day and the design of the iPhone 13 is well suited for these tasks. On the other hand, from a design perspective the iPhone SE is almost identical to the iPhone 8 from 2017. This recycled design helps keep cost down. The small light weight design is comfortable in hand and seamlessly fits in my pocket. But with a small design comes a small display and this is where the biggest comprise with the iPhone SE comes in. When it comes to content consumption, the iPhone SE display really is small and I found it hard to go back to after being used to the larger display on the iPhone 13. Will the display be too small for you? That depends on how you use your phone, the display really is a key component and I suggest you think about this carefully. The display on the iPhone 13 compared to the iPhone SE is much nicer to use, not only are text/images bigger, you can also see more at a time. The iPhone SE has the same A15 bionic chip as from the iPhone 13. This means the iPhone SE will perform just as well as the iPhone 13 not only today but also for the next 3,4 5+ years to come. No other phone at it’s price even comes close to this level of performance and longevity. This bring me to the cameras. I was impressed by how well the camera on the iPhone SE stacks up to even the iPhone 13. The iPhone SE may have just one lens but it is still one of the best smartphone cameras out there, especially at it’s price. At the end of the day, will I permanently switch from the iPhone 13 to the iPhone SE? No. For me the sacrifices in display and battery are just not worth it. However this be different for you. I have friends who, after years of always buying flagship phones, went for a more affordable alternative like the SE and never looked back - after all the iPhone SE is a phone that does the essentials and does them well. It all comes down to how you use your phone. If you use your phone for a smaller set of tasks, less for creating and consuming content and more for communication and some light productivity, the iPhone SE may be a solid option and opportunity to save some cash!

The points of having the SE are touch ID and the smaller size. The smaller display is not a compromise. People hated the removal of touch ID on modern iphones and its gigantic size.

Came over from the XS max. Love the old skool feel. Not missing the max much
The SE 2022 now I'd say is at it's best value wise. Yes you get a small more outdated screen and a smaller battery. But if you can get over that, you get more pros than cons. Especially if you find a good deal on it. What sticks out to me on the SE 2022 is the premium build quality, 5g, excellent speakers, long term software updates, wireless charging and all the Apple features. In some cases you can find them for $100 or slightly more. At those prices it's pretty much an unbeatable deal. Sure there are better iPhones but you'll pay a lot more so it ultimately depends on if you can live with the few trade offs for the price.

Hi Simon, thanks for your remarks!
I’ve have had my se2022 for over two months now and I have had no problems with battery and I’m a pretty heavy user
My first iPhone was the iPhone 6s Plus I hade it for almost 6 years and just switched to the iPhone SE 2020 a few months ago and I love it I actually prefer the smaller size phone it fits in my hands better but I do miss the bigger screen since I watch a lot of videos for me the battery is good compared to my old iPhone and I like it still having the home button and bezels for what I use the camera for and not using it much it’s so good and compared to my old iPhone it’s so much better overall I would recommend the iPhone SE it has just enough for me and works for me on a day to day basis
Just picked up my 13 mini a few days ago. Something that really surprised me is the color. Every where online it looks blue (in the midnight color) but in person, it looks almost green. Very nice color 👌🏻. The camera too, oh man I’ve never seen something so good

Technically, however, this 13 mini beats anything, absolutely great everyday phone. Size, just perfect, not a big fan of 6” and above. Great video! Really informative and helpful. I haven’t really got a clue about these things. I hate IT, and would rather not have to get a phone like this. I think they control peoples lives and are extremely distracting. You may laugh, but I currently have a small Doro which suits me down to the ground. However, I sadly realise that I live in a world where I need one of these things, so it’s good to see someone who knows what they are talking about put up a video with some good honest advice. Am now considering getting the SE, cos it’s fairly easy to use like my Apple I Pad. Thanks a lot. Take care.

It's weird to say the SE's screen is a compromise when, again, that's the whole reason for the SE. It's using an older design to keep costs low and also...not EVERYONE wants a massive screen. It's not a compromise to me as it is conscientious choice. Love the size and form factor of the SE.
If your buying a phone you know what the size is so it’s not a compromise when you know what your buying

I only use my iPhone 8 for texting, taking a few photos and make phone calls occasionally. It's more than what I need.
It’s sad that the SE is the only Apple phone with an LCD display. I really want an SE Plus. I can’t do OLED, gives me an almost immediate headache, especially as I use it a lot in low light. But the SE display is so small it’s very hard to use as your main device (as you explain here, our usage has changed since 2015), and battery is not great either. The camera is really excellent though, except at night.
@watchreport
Жыл бұрын
Have you tried apples new phones with the Oled? I had this issue with headaches on the 11 pro and downgraded to an 11 but when the 12 came out I gave OLED another shot as I read apple did something to the display so it wouldn’t cause these issues. I’ve had the 12 and now the 13pro and it doesn’t bother me at all.
People upgrading from the iPhone X, 11 or 12 are NOT the targeted group of the SE. Apple directly compares the SE to the iPhone 6S, 7 and 8 only - for a reason. Those people are the target demographic here.

Biggest differences for me, are 1. battery and 2. screen size. Camera and display quality aren’t that noticeable. 12 mini battery is not great either as I’ve also had one of those but it was a step up from the 2020 SE. Aside from battery I was happy with 12 mini and only switched to iPhone 13 because of a combo discount for having Verizon wireless and Fios (switched from Att). Hopefully I don’t regret it but already disappointed with Verizon’s coverage compared to Att at least in my area. I also seem to be one of the few people who prefer the design of the Se-not the small screen size but the shape and form factor; it just feels better in hand then the more squared off new iPhones.

Not really, people have i pads, laptops and televisions for media consumption. If you do not, and you are buying a 13 pro…. Get a laptop instead as that’s a ore productive device overall. Se3 is more than enough for what most people would ever need

Hi, thanks for sharing your point of view. I agree with you that one always has to look critically at his/her needs
Great review. I am currently using se 2020 and 13. Both are great devices depending on the usage.

Hi John, thanks for your comment. Enjoy the SE!
Me too.,.Battery is the saviour
Awesome 😍
Really solid video thanks. I love the iPhone 8 I used recently but found the new battery I put in it didn’t last close to long enough. So got a poco f3 which has great battery life. But I really want to go for the SE - I’d consider myself a power user listening to music and radio plays while working, emailing, using banking apps etc (not so much streaming) and using the maps. Would the SE be up to that? I don’t mind too much if it could last to 5pm on a charge but I had the SE 2020 and that seems to last about forty minutes!! Is this just a small improvement? Many thanks 🖖

Hi Jamin, thanks for your comments. Although the SE3 uses the same chip as the I13, unfortunately the battery has only slightly improved compared to its previous models.
I want to buy this iPhone SE, right now I have a Galaxy Note 10 and I think I never use all of the features this phone gives me, thats why I think this iPhone is the best for me, I only use my phone for socials, casual photos and a few videos a day on KZread. I watched some reviews from this phone and this in particular gaves me the decision to defenetly buy it.
I bought the iPhone SE 2nd gen to upgrade my iPod Touch since Apple no longer supports the Touch (but still gets software updates). I can even sell my iPod Touch for just as much $ as the SE these days! It’s a no brained!!
The thing is that we always want what we don´t have at the moment. We soon get bored and want a larger or a smaller phone with different specs. That´s just how humans work. The grass always looks greener on the other side.
My phones have been Samsung s3 (absolute garbage, last time I ever used an android phone), iPhone 8, and iPhone SE 2. I don’t plan on replacing this until the SE 4 with the new design and hopefully better battery life
I switched from an 11 to the SE and I can agree the screen is the biggest compromise. However, I did get it for $99 and it’s light years faster than my 11 so I’m happy with it.

Great price, enjoy!
Does iphone se 3 take good photos. I want a secondary phone just for photos nothing else. I'm already using android
I have both phones. I use the SE as a backup. I much prefer the screen on the 13 as well as the face ID and gestures. But I like the size of the SE in many situations like going to the gym or out on walks. Both are good phones but for day to day use I much prefer the 13. I did consider buying an iPhone 13 mini as a backup but the price is just too high for a secondary phone.

Hi, thanks for sharing, it pretty much sums up the whole discussion about the SE and the 13
I don’t think I took anything away from this. I’m checking out your other content.

HI Chris, sorry to hear that, but I assume you already have a pretty good knowledge on these phones. I hope that my other content proved useful:)
Does anyone remember the iphone 3g with a 3.7“ screen 😹.. back in the day i thought .. this is huge… now i cant use it because of its size … but smaller phones back in the day wher better .. and today we van use them to get rid of our phone addiction .. at least a bit …

Yes I had one! And then a 4 and so on. I’m using an SE 2020 now. About to order an SE 2022 now: I can’t bring myself to spend over $1000.00 with taxes & accessories.

The main reason I feel, to buy the Iphone SE series is the smaller form factor and display. It is far better to use daily than the huge brick phones of today
I got the 13 mini two weeks ago and I love the size of the phone!!!
SE works fine for me. I saved a few bucks. I'm sure you can afford a new update every year. Best wishes.

Hi David, thanks for your comment
I have a new SE. I’m not sure what other people use there phone for but I can’t kill the battery on it . My phone was last charged to full 22 hours ago and it’s at 38% . I charge it at 7pm once a day. Up at 5am and on the road in at truck . Spotify going all day . Usually accounts for 60% of use . Calls , text, social media, some KZread , on line shopping and I’ve constantly gotten the same results for a month now. With 5g on and a VPN running. Frequent gps use. If you’re running this battery out in less than an 8 hour day you may want to do some soul searching. My reason for buying this phone was to help avoid the obsession of staring at a little screen all day. It worked

Nah some games can drain a phone battery pretty fast if your battery is lasting 8 hours then you're not really a power user

Hi Frank, thanks for sharing. The way you use your phone indeed leaves some more battery time than for the ”heavy” users.
