🎒I survived my first backpacking trip in Joshua Tree and filled half my sketchbook with inspiration✨

In this video I take you on a sketchbook tour of the sketchbook I started for my trip to Joshua Tree! You also get to see some footage from the backpacking adventure itself. In addition to many drawings of rock formations you'll get to see my new favorite sketchbook practice, drawing my gear!

amazing! love that this is inspiring for you. I'm currently working on a zine of all the little gear sketches I made after this trim to encourage others to do the same. Let me know if you have questions! A great start is to pick a trail near you with some great spots to sit and view the beauty. Its an awesome trial for testing your supplies :)

I've mainly hiked in the parks -- Bryce, Arches, Zion.... My absolute favorite is Bryce. We drove around Monument Valley, but had a gorgeous sunset walk out to and around of the mittens. The landscapes are amazing out West. Gotta get back there! (I'm in CT.)@@MelMitchJackArt

Hi. I live in the Netherlands and I love bicycle-camping tours. I take sketching materials with me too (including a small watercolour kit). I would love to make more sketches during the trips ... need to plan in the time for it

I love this! bicycle camping is something I really want to try! I only made about 5 sketches while I was out on the trip, only one of the days did we decide to really slow down and allow time for it. most of these were made with reference photos once I got back! totally something you could do too :) enjoy exploring nature out there!

@@MelMitchJackArt Oh sure I can make drawings or paintings afterwards from photos. But I found out when I'm doing it 'en plein air' (on location) the result is very different, and I like that result!

What a clever system! I often think it would be nice to be able to use both sides of the page if not for that darn bleed through :( I'm gonna try this method next time. Those little 2-tone sketches at the 8min mark are also really nice 👍
