Since stopping using deep conditioners every wash day my curly hair is more moisturised, it's more defined and it's overall more healthy! Here I explain my hair journey and how I found out that my afro hair does not like deep conditioning too often, the changes I've noticed, how often I now deep condition, and some deep conditioning tips.

People don’t realize that black women in Africa are growing long hair without many of the products available in the western world. No need to overdo it.

Same! I stopped deep conditioning and noticed an immediate change. My hair is growing also! Simplifying my wash day routine has been so beneficial!

I find the less I do the better my hair is responding
I agree. I also stopped deep conditioning out of laziness and also finding some really good normal conditioners. I found a really good conditioner and just started using every wash day and I realised I didn’t actually need to deep condition all the time. I’m just doing what I want these days! Haha 😂

@@blessingaliu123 the one I love most is the new Curlsmith moisture conditioner (the orange line) I started using that when it came out and forgot about deep conditioning 😂

exactly! that's what its all about having fun and finding what works.
You actually don’t need to deep condition that often. You really only need about once a month for maintenance. We overdo it doing it weekly/bi weekly. I personally do it bi-weekly because it helps me with detangling during wash day and found a cheap gallon-ish sized one so I don’t mind “wasting” it
I stop deep conditioning every week too. Since my hair is healthy I found that I don’t need to deep conditioning after every wash. Just went needed. I also found out that I don’t need thick leave in eithers they’ve been running my styles but not giving me the hold I needed to get thru the week. I think once our hair is healthy we may not need to do so much too it. But porosity might also have something to do with it. Best advice is to just experiment and do what works for u

I love this too bc I stopped deep conditioning every 2 weeks out of laziness 😢. But I use a leave in conditioner and my hair is moisturized. Thanks for the explanation
Recently, I have been lazy and not doing deep conditioning with heat. I just wanting to spend less time during wash day routine. So I just use normal conditioner. So far everything is good with my hair. It's just recovering from a hair oil I recently discovered might not be good from me as I have recently been diagnosed coeliac disease. And products and foods with wheat and gluten are a no no for me.
My hair is pretty much identical to yours. I'm definitely going to experiment with reducing my deep conditioner routine! It's not only going to save time, but money too as the product can last longer if I'm using it less. Win win! Thanks for the tips! Xx

I hope it work out for you! x
This is the second recommendation I saw today about this subject. I will try deep conditioning bi-weekly and see how my hair likes it. Thank you!

This makes sense but idk, I feel as though my hair responds pretty well to weekly deep conditions. My hair is more manageable, my styles are easier to do and last longer. I mainly stick to wash n gos but it works out pretty well for every other style.

if deep conditioning weekly works for you, then stick with doing that! That's why I say that if your current routine is working then you don't need to make any changes. ❤
Thanks for the tips! Can you do a video of your favorite/top regular conditioners? I definitely need to get some now!

I'd recommend trying out the Palmer's shampoos and conditioners. Love them!
I skipped deep conditioning my hair this wash time and it feels so wrong to skip it, but I want to take your advice because i feel like my hair isn't thriving. I also tried a braid out for the first time and it looks great😊! Keep the videos coming, thanks😊😊.

change always feels a bit awkward but give it a couple of tries to see if it works for you hair. Yayyyy to the braid out ! ❤
So I just found your channel and I am loving it💜💜💜💜💜My hair is chronically dry and honestly I can't see myself not deep conditioning at least twice a month however olaplex or curlsmiths bond builder has helped me skip deep conditioning as frequently.

hey! glad you're loving my videos! Be sure to check out my insta as well if you haven't already. I post more frequently there ❤ twice a week is a decent amount! I just think DCing every wash day is a bit too much and I think most people wouldn't actually need it but we're scared to step away from it. But if you have found a routine which works for you, I'd stick with it xx
You’re correct about deep conditioning as needed ( moisture or protein or combo if that’s what your hair needs) but for detangling I’d suggest (I’m a natural hairstylist) you use the felicia leatherwood detangling brush. The brush you're using is not made for detangling purposes. Its to be used after being thoroughly detangled and curl definition.

I know the brush I use for detangling is made for styling but I've tried so many different brushes that are made for detangling (including the Felicia leatherwood) and I always end up going back to my Denman as I find it works best for me! Thank you for the suggestion ❤
It could be the products you were using I cannot live without deep conditioning I use DIY it consists of silica amla morninga hibiscus and olive deep condition add olive oil and gravesend and avocado blend it all together let me tell you just amazing leave in with 30 mins i also add another conditioner carols daughter it works soo amazing the natural powders are amazing also marshmallow and slippery elm
Lmao “why I stopped deep conditioning” then proceeds to deep condition 😂

?! probably depends on the type of porosity

It would depend on a lot of things yeah. Which is why I say that if your current routine is working for you to stick with that x
I need deep conditioner with low porosity
You are right. I do the same wash my hair and use a rinse out conditioner then style. Wash your D%# hair and I am Black Curls advised a deep conditioner should only be used if you are treating an issue if it's adding more moisture or protein. Or after a color or chemical service. But really our natural curls need a simple routine and it works. I refuse to sleep with conditioner or oil in my hair it's foolishness. Wash, condition and style. Simple as pie
