I STAYED 8 NIGHTS IN PARADISE | Six Senses Laamu Maldives

Free Award Travel Discord: / discord
Six Senses Laamu Maldives is the poster child of paradise. After visiting here, I am going to have great difficulty appreciating other resorts since simply put none can compare. I had only the highest expectations when visiting this place, yet they were completely blown away. At every moment, during every day, we could not believe we were here. After leaving, our only thought is "When can we come back?"
Please listen to me when I say that you will not regret coming here. Everyone was so friendly and kind to us it was amazing. One day when I accidentally got a very minor cut on my foot I was immediately taken to the onsite and taken care of. Later in the day, three separate staff members asked me how my foot was and if there is anything they could do to help. While every part of Six Senses Laamu was stellar, the service was the shining star. This was the best service I have experienced at any hotel/resort in the world, and it isn't even close.
A couple of pieces of advice:
- I really liked staying on Jetty A since it was the closest to the main overwater facilities. Additionally, I found the water here to be the best for snorkeling.
- Make sure you eat at Leaf, it is the best restaurant I have ever been to.
- Try out water sports, nonmotorized ones are free but I recommend trying out the motorized ones too. Yes, they are expensive (they will be anywhere in The Maldives), but flying 10 feet in the air with a water jetpack is an experience you will remember forever. Also, be sure to say hello to the watersports manager Aalif for me! He was awesome!
- Stay for an absolute minimum of 5 nights but to be honest I would highly recommend staying for 7-10 (or more) nights.
Going to The Maldives has been a dream of mine since High School. I have always fantasized about sitting in an overwater hammock in the sun listening to the waves below me. Of course, the difficulty was the price. The vast majority of people visiting resorts in The Maldives are paying insane sums of money which I simply can't afford yet. However, if you know anything about me is that I love the game of travel optimization and credit card points. Using very simple techniques, we were able to save 80% off the normal cash rates.
Here was our booking process:
Typical cash rates here are over $1,500/night after taxes. However, when we booked Six Senses Laamu it was available for 100,000 IHG Points per night. IHG sells their points for $0.005 per point during most of their sales meaning we could just buy the points for $500/night directly. This would have been an amazing price already but it gets even better. Since both Jessica and I hold the IHG Premier Credit Card, we get the 4th night free on award stays meaning our effective cost was only 75,000 IHG points/night (which can be purchased for $375). Furthermore, since we each already had a big bucket of points from the IHG Premier Card signup bonuses, we only needed to purchase a little over 1/2 the points for our whole stay which means we actually paid under $200/night total.
As a note: if you are considering applying for the IHG Premier or just any credit card, then please consider using one of my affiliate links (it helps out the channel immensely): cardonomics.com/i/shaunlane See Ad Disclosure Below
Sadly, Six Senses Laamu has more than doubled in the points cost (now normally about 238,000 IHG points per night without the 4th night free). While buying the points can still represent significant savings compared to the normal cash price, you can't save nearly as much as before. However, there are still other amazing Maldives resorts where you can apply this same basic technique (such as the Park Hyatt Maldives, Alila Maldives, and Waldorf Astoria Maldives). With that said, we still really want to find a way to return to Six Senses Laamu since it was just that amazing.

Because of your video I decided on this property vs the holiday inn resort. Yes it is a venture to get from the east coast US but so worth the trip. We returned last week and had a blast. We will be returning in the future!

Hello! Thank you for your amazing video and channel, my wife and I love your content! - We're thinking about making a points booking and we have a couple questions for you: I know this was a points booking, can you confirm what room type you booked? (Do you think it would be worth it to upgrade a points booking to one with a pool?) How were the mosquitos there? Were they bad at night in and around the OWV? How about around the restaurants? (We did six senses koh yao noi Thailand and LOVED it, but the mosquitos were absolutely insane once the sun began to set.)

Hey was it crowded when you went? It looks like there are a lot of other people when you went to the management cocktail drinks!

The resort was not at full capacity I was told and it absolutely did not feel crowded. There were a lot of people at the cocktail party but I never felt that the resort was overcrowded. It was almost a perfect balance of enough people to feel that the resort wasn't dead but not so many that it felt crowded. I did hear that during ultra-peak season it can feel more crowded and the pool chairs fill up. When are you looking to go?

I think that is an excellent decision! If going all the way from the US I would definitely not recommend staying at a Holiday Inn. It is such a far journey that it is absolutely worth it to splurge on the best of the best. Six Senses Laamu is certainly the best of the best.
