📨Hey Lovelies, I mentioned in my last video that I'll be starting a new "chapter" in my skincare journey, which means I'll be trying a new product, Tretinoin Gel/Retin A/Vitamin A to be specific.
I remember a few years ago, I saw ‪@ItsMyRayeRaye‬ (bit.ly/2PNsEFo) and ‪@MikaiMcDermott‬ (unfortunately she deleted them) videos. The product did wonders for both their skin and now they don't have acne/scars like they used to. Mikai, who I still watch has stopped using it and her acne and scars haven't reappeared, so I have high hopes for this product.
This was the first week using this product, my initial thoughts and what happened to my face in that time.

Use the Cerave PM and if you need a little extra moisture then use the Cerave Skin Renewing Gel oil before the moisturizer. My skin is severely acne prone and I use the Cerave Foam Cream Cleanser with 4% benzoyl peroxide in the morning. Follower by the clindamycin topical lotion. As my daily moisturizer I use the Cerave AM with SPF 30. You have to use a mild cleanser at night with the Tretinoin cream. So, for PM I cleanse with Cerave Foaming Facial cleanser. Then I use the cream and apply Cerave gel and PM moisturizer. African black soap is an exfoliator and it's too harsh with the cream. This was upon the recommendation of my dermatologist to use these products with the prescribed treatment and have not had any extreme dryness but clearing of acne and hyperpigmentation. Give the Cerave a try. (Long post sorry! Lol)

Cut the African black soap out of your routine. I was using African black soap earlier this year and it made my skin clear then out of nowhere It made me break out bad and made it super raw. I suggest using cerave acne foaming cleanser. It makes my skin so soft and moisturized and not irritated it also is non comdomgenic. That would help your journey go a lot better hun

This type of product saved me from acne when I was a teenager. I once used too much product on my skin and it led to complications which I was able to treat in a month. I think the key here is not to use more than a peanut size amount of product at a time, and only apply it at night preferably before bed time. Also, introducing this slowly in your routine can help (don't need to use it everyday but maybe just 3-4 days a week with a day in between them). My dermatologist also recommended I use an intense hydrating product the next morning - I use Effaclar H from La roche posay and been using it ever since after ending the treatment.

@@Diamond-bw7zr it happened to me to get hyperpigmentation and slightly darker skin.. I'm no expert but from what I know, if the retinol you're using is too strong for your skin it is causing inflammation, darker skin tones may have a higher risk of discoloration, or hyperpigmentation from using it. I would suggest to try using a lower concentration formula and maybe stop using it altogether until your skin color recovers 🤔🤔

I've just started using the 0.025% strength Treclin gel prescribed by my dermatologist to use every 3 days and I'm using the Cerave Facial Moisturising Lotion PM before using the gel as a buffer so it wont be as strong and then applying the gel and then leaving it another 30mins to dry before putting another thicker Cerave moisturiser after and in the morning I do the same but with the Cerave Facial Moisturising Lotion AM with SPF 25 so that I do not peel. I also found that using a gentle cleanser like the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser helps aswell. I am really worried about purging as I just got my skin to clear up so watching your video helped me a bit but I was told to continue using it even if I purge because it pays off in the longterm so goodluck and I hope it works out for you and everyone using it!

Hey girl. I’ve used Tret many years ago in HS and I loved it, but I wasn’t careful. I stopped because I wanted to go a more natural route. Although my natural skin care is great, I wanted to get rid if some scars. So I’m back on tret 0.5. Some tips, use a gentle cleanser. I use cervea hydrating bar soap. I tone with rose water. And I moisturize with oils. Castor, Papaya and Sweet Almond (no fragrance). The thicker the oil, the better for me. It helps so much with the peeling. I started peeling a week after use. Remember to use sunscreen. I use Sun Bum spf 50. But I really suggest moisturizing with oils. Black Soap can be super drying. Pls try the cervae. Don’t do clay mask or apply other topical medications. If you do use a face mask, use a non clay non acid one. I.e I use a vitamin c mask. I put this on every night.

Em hey yeh it does get annoying especially when I said I’ve stopped using the ABS many times in the comments and in the community tab and everyone keeps mentioning it. I know everyone is just trying to help but I’m still in the process of trying new products and figuring out what works with the Tretinoin Gel and I didn’t ask anyone for an alternative to the ABS. If anything the sunscreen is a problem as you can see in the video and I’d love some recommendation for that but everyone keeps going on about the ABS. Also I’ve done lots of research before I started using it and I know that you can apply moisturiser before and/or you apply it and I choose to apply the Tretinoin before moisturiser, I prefer it that way. Thanks for commenting

I’m on it too and I still can get very dry and peel if I’m not careful but here’s what I’ve learned. Always moisturize. A lot. I use like 2 fragrance free moisturizers before tret. Then I use a very gentle cleanser in the morning like creamy cerave. Then I use fragrance free sunscreen every day but since you are a darker skin tone you might wanna look at chemical sunscreens since they won’t make you look purple or give you a white cast. Also, try to very minimally exfoliate the dry skin. If you exfoliate it you can damage your skin barrier (I’ve done this a few times and it’s horrible). You will have extremely sensitive skin that burns when ANYTHING is on it. So try to just gently cleanse and plan your days on when you think you might be peeing. It definitely gets better so just stick through it.

power through the peeling! Its only bad the first few weeks, and then it gets sooooo much better. If you find you're getting too dry, put moisturizer on before you put the tretinoin on. This was a game changer for me. I still peel around my purge spots :'( But its only been 3 months. THE PURGE IS REAL and it is NOT fun. Great time to be quarantined haha. I've noticed a huge difference in the overall texture of my skin, and I'm hoping it only gets better from there. (Still purging but we're pushing through) Good luck! Space out the days on which you apply Tretinoin! It is advised to start using it once a week only and building up your tolerance by adding days on a one per one basis. It’s also important to moisturize 30min before using Tretinoin for starters. Also you should drop all the other acids and exfoliators that there may be in your routine. Tashika Bailey When you get the peelies use The Ordinary Glycolic acid to take away the peelies. It does an excellent job. Use it at night for 2 nights then moisturiser. Leave for one night. On the fourth day you can return to trentinoin every over day. By then you’ll see how your skin reacts and can tailor it to your regimen. This is not a rush job. It will take a couple if months but you will be so happy with the results. Add moisturiser to the cream you put on your neck. Exbrace the peels and crusts, be careful with your nails when peeling because the beautiful new skin lies beneath. Have a great journal Sis👍🏾🥰

Tashika Bailey Cool beans! I suggested the glycolic as I had the terrible peelies and bought Derma E Vit A Glycolic toner. It was expensive along with the cleanser and it worked perfectly. Granted The Ordinary Glycolic is stronger and it gave great results. Some people love it, others don’t. I never use trentinoin and an acid on the same day. No way. I have sensitive skin. I too have watched countless videos and read lots of articles and studies. Knowledge is power. I’m glad I’ve incorporated trentinoin into my routine. It’s so nice to be make up free. Be well Sis.😀

As I said, I’m not going to put any other acid on my face when using this product it makes my skin far too sensitive even on the days I don’t use it. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone using Tretinoin either because of you didn’t have sensitive skin before starting Tretinoin it’ll make your skin sensitive like mine but of course it’s up to you. The tone of my face is no a problem as I used The Ordinary spelling solution and Pixi toner a year before using this and they brighten my skin and evened out my complexion. I tried The Ordinary’s toner and I didn’t work as well for me as the Pixi toner.

Best to get the Tretinoin cream for darker skin. Apparently gel can irritate our darker skin and that can worsen pigmentation. COTZ has a great sunscreen- Prime and Protect, mineral but tinted, so no white cast. SPF 40 Cerave Moisturising Cream is great too to buffer the Tretinoin! Not sure if you’ve watched Dr Dray’s video but she’s helpful.

Hi tashika , I have dark skin , I am Pakistani and have indentations and dark post inflammatory hyperpigmentation on the indentations , can tretinoin help fade post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and can tretinoin. Bring up hyperpigmentation that is under the skin ? Can this tretinoin help smooth indentations and fade post inflammatory hyperpigmentation on dark skin ? Any irritation can cause further post inflammatory hyperpigmentation esp on dark skin tones .

  • @OfficialTashika

    @OfficialTashika

    4 жыл бұрын

Hey, Tretinoin can definitely fade post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, that is what I had and I've been working amazingly to clear my skin. From my knowledge it doesn't bring up post inflammatory hyperpigmentation that's under the skin but it can bring up acne that's under the skin. I'm not sure if it can help smooth indentations - the gel can irritate your skin so maybe use the cream if you're worried about irritation also, please do some further research or speak to a doctor.

Best sunscreen you can currently use is Purito Centella Unscented sunscreen. It leaves 0 white cast because it's made of 100% organic UV filters, it has no perfume in it and unlike nivea (that you have) it contains safe uv filters that don't disrupt hormonal activity in your body plus the size of molecules are too large to penetrate skin barrier. It's really moisturizing so that also a big plus 😊

  • @OfficialTashika

Hey, I’m sure the 0.1% will clear your skin, just using it once a week to start and moisturise 30 mins before applying it. My skin looked bad, peeled a lot and was extremely dry for about 3-4 weeks, I didn’t get much purging as in acne spots on my skin but my skin was so sensitive throughout that time. I haven’t noticed any changes in fine lines, I wanted to apply it under my eyes because I have lots of creasing there I don’t think it will help because it’s excess skin. Also the 0.1% gel is way to strong for under the eyes, I’ve seen older women use the 0.05% CREAM under their eyes to help find lines and wrinkles and it works form them.

hey dear, I started using tretinoin 0.05 today, I personally put so so much less tretinoin. Like literally less than quarter the amount you put because I am scared af. I recommend putting something hydrating before applying the tretinoin with moisturizing after❤️ I also plan to use it every week for 2 weeks to make sure my skin is introduced to it gradually. Flaky skin = dehydrated skin. moisturize ALOT please you might destroy your skin barrier if you don't moisturize enough❤️ btw oil isn't a moisturizer and you should be using it WITH moisturizer

That’s true it does and I’ve seen lots of other videos of people using hydroquinone but I wouldn’t want to use it on my skin as it’s a bleaching agent, my face is already a couple shades lighter than my body because of all the products I use but I wouldn’t want to bleach my skin. You are correct though, you can get a different brand from Dermatica. My skin can handle it and it really needed it that’s why I started off with the 0.1% starting with the 0.25 would of been a joke tbh I got the 0.1% from my friend and she told me that she tried the 0.5% and her friend did too and it did nothing for them but when they switched to the 0.1% that’s when their skin cleared up completely.

Yes is it possible, the 0.1% will more than likely causing peeling and purging. Were you using the 0.5% cream or gel? The cream is weaker than the gel, in the sense that it’s for extremely dry and sensitive skin so it causes less irritation/peeling. It still works but it takes longer to see results.

@@OfficialTashika I understand that... I was just saying, that dermatologists reccomend especially in the begining during the retinization process (peeling, dryness), in order to minimize the side effects, such as mentionné before, its best used on top of a moisturizer, and slowly introduced into the routine (for example fore to weeks doing it two times per week, then increasing to three times, etc.). Tretinoin is a medication, that is a long term goal, so we need to be extra careful. It might also help to use a more gentle cleanser, because the soap can be quite extra drying.
