Appreciate the comment! Yeah I really enjoyed this 🤘🏼
Despite all the ongoing negativity, you sure have helped Meta by showing what connecting to other people in the virtual world is like. I am wondering how Metaverse can be kept decently safe and not turned into a chaotic virtual world.
Thanks for one of the most optimistic videos about this technology, its current state and potential. It seems so many people are reluctant to see the possibilities out of fear of losing their current ways. I see it as a wonderful new addition (rather than replacement) and can’t wait to see how the experiences continue to develop.

It’s been a fascinating experience! I was very optimistic about whether this would turn out to be a sh*t show or actually worthwhile, and I’m glad I tried it out!

The possibility to be in a state of discomfort and annoyance everyday? Ya that was made very clear. I'll be honest - I think you're another meta-shill.
I've been working a lot in VR. I have ADHD so being able to change my environment at a flick of a button is a very powerful way to change your frame of mind if I keep loosing focus. As for the marks on the face, since your just working with them I've found that just leaving the headset a bit looser works wonders. Also for immersed and drinks - you can put "portals" into the real world in Immersed. So you can have a window into the real world where your glass is :)
@PeteMatheson

Don’t you find the portals keep moving though?! Lol
I actually really think that working in a co-working space is an excellent way to avoid feeling lonely at work. Probably the most reasonable and accurate use cases for real world application of VR in a work settings. Well done! BRAVO!
Fantastic video, Pete!! It was awesome to meet you in Immersed! You are absolutely part of our little (but growing) group of "regulars" in the Immersed public rooms! I look forward to seeing you again!

yeah VR and virtual offices/experiences can help a lot introverts to communicate and socialize more.
It’s incredible how many people don’t get how game changing this technology is
When one realises that VR is still in it's infancy it can bring that much more into work life. Also the presence feeling if one haven't tried the workrooms or immersed for meetings they have no idea how much more present you feel over the standard zoom call.
@simonp37

Infancy? Pretty much, even though it was invented in 1968. I remember trying VR games in the arcades in the 1990's. Compared to displays, desktops and laptops, phones and many other devices, VR haven't really developed that much.

Great video. I actually started coding full time in VR last Christmas and have never looked back. Despite the Quest 2s limitations, working with 3 wall-sized screens in Immersed whilst floating in space really is something special. And I always look forward to getting the headset on and diving back in. I’m now a believer and can’t wait for Apple to throw themselves into the VR ring.

@Karmas Weapon huge max resolution screens placed a reasonable distance away. All the render settings set to max. It’s definitely not perfect, but slightly imperfect VR with 3 screens knocks my physical 27” iMac into touch every time. And this is just on a cheapy quest 2. Quite remarkable really.
Great video idea mate, will be watching this one

You actually changed my mind on working in the meta verse. I used to work from home full time during covid and it would have been nice to give this a try! Or even work with my colleagues in VR.

Ah this would have been awesome in lockdown to have everyone working in the meeting rooms together!
also i agree with the idea around social interactions in fact i think for the socially awkward it coudl help acclimate them into a more social environment with out all the really tough parts of social situations
It’s common to hear people mention that the allure of VR for workers is that it provides a “safe” environment. I think, while that is probably true for some, the larger motivator is the price. I’m a remote worker and would love to work in a co-working space but it’s extremely expensive. For the price of one to two months of a private office in a co-working space, you can buy a VR headset that gives a close-enough feel.
@PeteMatheson
Жыл бұрын
True, the headset is expensive. The Quest 2 also works which is much more affordable, but not as good. I see it as being cheaper than a multi monitor setup so still can be good value, depending on the kinda screens you normally use!
I like how you went against the grain and actually made some effort to make it work, rather than just make fun of Meta's legless avatars like many other KZreadrs did. I like your optimistic take.

This was the first VR as virtual work environment video that gave me an actual information about how far the technology is for being useful for working. The other videos only talked about gaming or how traveling isn't really possible with them yet, because the tremors of movement (train/plain/etc), would make it impossible to work with. Thanks for this video. :)

@@PeteMatheson Me too. I think if Zuck wants any hope of the working side of the metaverse to take off in a serious way any time soon he needs to partner with corporations and get them to issue these as their work device. They need whole groups to be using them. Hoping enough people will buy them on their own accord with their own money and work with 99% people not using them is just not gonna happen. Especially at this price.
Thanks so much for this. I’m 99% ready to get one of these for some many of the reasons you mention - working alone from home as a web developer, would be so nice to have a better office, hang out with people in those spaces and more screens. Just worried about the resolution and eye fatigue. Question: I have to wear reading glasses for work. Would that be a deal-breaker? Congrats on the smooth, professional video style.

I think this was a better explanation of the metaverse and the advantages of working in it, if you work remotely, than what Meta has doen. Great video, thanks. I tried this a year ir so ago in my Quest2 and had the same thoughts, it really does help when your working from home. My two issues though are the obvious shortfalls of the current tech with my quest 2, but mainly an adoption thing. I have nobody I work with able to try this so I end up just doing a 2d video call within vr which defeats the point.
Thanks for this well setup review. Do you still use this and, if so, how frequently compared to your normal screen(s)? How does the release of the Quest 3 impact this, if at all?

I feel I sort of get this experience BYOD'ing my MacBook Pro to high school. I still have my whole work setup, macOS and all, which I take wherever I go, but especially at lunch time, unlike most students who sit and talk with other students, possibly because they hate the school Chromebooks, I like to get work done on my MBP, but still sometimes like to but into conversations when I feel I have something to say. It feels eerily like this video but in real life.

I tried it and lasted about 10 minutes before sacking it off. It is super insecure. The concept of working and being joined by random strangers probably breaks hundreds of company policies where I work now. Face to face human interaction will never be beaten. Hey I looked at a review about this headset when it first came out.. and there’s a setting where you can create a portal. The portal allows you to peak into the real world. You can either create a door way for you to see and step into the real world. The other allows you to scan an object so you can always see it with the headset on. That way you can scan your glass, notepad, or chair and you will always know where they are with the headset on because you can see them.

Pete. Great video. So can you actually be productive working like this or is it too early and just a concept really? Also. See that you are on a super ultra wide curved monitor. Do you prefer this or the ark that you reviewed in previous videos?
@PeteMatheson
Жыл бұрын
Thanks bud! The Ark was great, I still prefer the G9 Neo but still feel like there’s something better out there. Currently testing the new G8 and liking it, but it’s a little small. I do actually think the VR working is great if you work from home a lot. It’d be great to have more people use it!
I think that the only way VR can gain massive adoption in companies is by providing a desktop workstation grade monitor setup on the go no matter where you are. There's a huge blocker issue shown here: the desktop output looks very VERY bad in the recording (low resolution, flickering, blurriness). The problem is that in my experience a 2d VR recording has always looked way better than the actual output of a VR headset.
@PeteMatheson
Жыл бұрын
It looks VERY good in VR. The recordings don’t do it anywhere near justice!
@CubesAndPortals

You've got it backwards, what you see in a 2D capture is almost always significantly lower quality than it appears while actually wearing the headset. Been using triple screens in the Quest Pro since it launched & haven't encountered a single piece of text that was even remotely difficult to read. It's crisp edge to edge.
Meta should have some games like treasure hunt for real money like 1 million dollars or build in business so will attract people to go there to make money!
does it work on quest 3?
I wonder whether all the work related data is safe from Meta’s hands is such a setup
Please answer us, do you still work daily in VR? That's the burning question, are the headsets high enough dpi to be as productive? I have two Odyssey G9's stacked and want to replace it with a highres VR headset like the vive pro 2 but don't see ANY youtube videos of anyone using a high res VR headset + virtual desktops
@PeteMatheson
Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching. I still jump in from time to time, but don’t commit to it for a full day or week like in this video - mainly because I’m not just sat in one place every week at the moment. DPI is actually just fine for working on documents etc. it’s not super high detail like retina, but it’s great for just working and hanging out with people at the same time - honestly I had no issues at all!

cool i have a quest 2 and a pc so i can do all this
if nothing else this video showed me I dont want a quest pro. Comfort is a big thing for me and ive been able to get my quest 2 *extremely* comfortable. I dont care about a slight resolution upgrade I wont even be able to take advantage of 99% of the time (because I mostly play VR Chat and I cant do more than 2x antialiasing), and I can get the controllers with the better tracking separate. So ill just wait and see if I need a quest 3.
