I’ve had two model Y, a 2021 (totaled unfortunately) and 2023 which I got a few weeks ago. The difference in build quality is crazy between both, I’m not saying 2023 is perfect but most of the annoying stuff you mention is addressed now, panel gaps, trims coming off, but specially the phone key, it works 10/10. That said the car was expensive in 2021 too so this shouldn’t happened anyways. For 2023 Suspension and tires changed and now the ride quality is far superior. The speaker they removed was for safety chimes only, so it didn’t impact sound quality, as the Chime could sound on any of the others… On the other hand the parking sensor delete sucks, vision does not make it up even close, it’s really really really bad. I’m not a Tesla die hard. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the car but in not in love with it. I got the 2023 because my 21 was totaled and the new pricing was enticing plus I had all the accessories, home charging etc and it made a lot of sense and other EVs at that price point don’t entice me… I probably would have picked a EQS SUV or R1S too if I decided to increase my budget…

Is your 2023 standard, LR, or Performance? Hard agree on pretty much everything. @@rah2023 well you might be right but everyone knows that before giving Tesla their hard earned cash, build quality is a different story, it’s not like they hide the interior and it’s a surprise after you pick up… to me it was all about the experience (acceleration, driving dynamics, tech, etc) and the Tesla is miles ahead on that than my previous car (and most cars tbh) and I was fine with the minimalistic interior… another example no one talks about? my friend has a Defender, awesome car and around 30K more expensive and I would say their interior is pretty cheap too but the experience of having that modern off roader is incredible and worth it… people are too focused on Tesla and they are great cars, just not for everyone.

You hit the hail on the head with cost cutting, as you can see by the rest of the EV industry costs need to come down, they are trying to reduce costs without reducing features people actually care about. Charging stations are my main gripe with EVs. I just hate how there's still a lack of super chargers. That's the only sticking point. The average range on EVs at around 300 miles is good, it's just the ability to charge them in more places and utilize their 18 min fast charge time is lacking. I have to go out of my way in some road trips to do so

  • @shinaikouka

Unless you’re talking about the 400+ mile Model S variants, Teslas don’t usually get 300 miles. Those EPA ratings are under specific conditions with specific equipment. Want tires with better tread for inclement weather? You’re going to lose mileage. Have to deal with faster roads? You’re going to lose mileage. I can’t even drive to my local service center (~90 miles) and back without recharging.

I had many similar experiences with my 2021 Model 3 Long Range. Ordered it and took delivery around the same times you did, so same features were dropped. While the fit and finish were mostly good, the amount of squeaks and noises coming from the interior were pretty annoying. I also had the “smelly sock” issue after 6 months of ownership, which was brutal. I got bored with the car quickly and wound up selling it in June of 2022 for almost the same price as I paid for it. Wound up getting a Polestar 2 and am super happy with it. It’s a blast to drive and just as fast as the M3, and it feels like a real car - not a gimmick. The fit and finish are impressive, too. No squeaks, no rattles - super tight.

Just Hybrid allows you to drive small parts in full electric like when you are leaving your home community or arriving at the mall or decreasing speed to take a exit. It charges itself. Plug in hybrid have a much bigger battery that needs to be charged at home and gives you 20-50 ( depending on the model of car) of full electric range. However, just hybrids are amazing fuel savers.

If you configure the Ioniq with higher range to more closely compete with the Model Y, it's actually right around the same price (the one sitting at my local dealership is listed at $51,290). Once you factor in the $7,500 US fed tax credit that the Model Y qualifies for and the Ioniq 5 does not, it's actual hard not to choose Model Y over the Ioniq, even though the Ioniq is a very nice car.

There are not "tons" of better EV's than Tesla. The Model Y and 3 are two of the most reliable cars you can buy period. Sure the fit and finish is not that great, but those cars don't have the issues other EV's have. My Chevy Bolt was a PITA and all these new EV's are having issues like Tesla did in the beginning. Do you even own an EV?

I’ve had my Model 3 for nearly five years now, and the lack of physical controls is my biggest problem. It’s something that I think you can easily overlook… until you’re in a position where you need to access them quickly. For example, I was on an interstate during a light rain and I drove into a downpour. The auto-wipers didn’t react quickly enough, so I wanted to manually set it to high. I had done this in my previous car (2013 Ford Taurus SHO) without an issue, but having to take my eyes off the road to look down at the bottom left of the touch screen is just bad… really bad. I usually joke and say that it seems like decisions are made at Tesla by people that don’t actually drive the cars, but I do wonder if there could be a hint of truth there. I was thinking about switching to a Mustang Mach-E, but I must say… Tesla does have some nice features that other automakers could certainly “borrow”. How a Tesla is just active once you’re in it is so different from how the Mustang still has to “boot up” when you push the power button.

I had 2 model 3s. One was a 2018 and the other a 2022. Not a huge difference between them, but I sold them and got a 2018 Chevy Volt. And my god was it quiet and better built. The screen was really the best part of the Tesla, but using my phone with androidauto or carplay it does all the same things. I can also add the Comma 3 to add autopilot for the freeways... plus it has gas as a backup after I go 50Miles on EV mode. Tesla also rubbed me wrong with their recent price drops as it essentially made all their customers upside down in their loans. I was able to sell before that thankfully, but still.

Or just don't buy a tesla, the new Kia and Hyundai offerings should be more than enough to draw a lot of new customers to them instead, plus VW will get into the US market competitively again with the ID4. Tesla just need to start investing into R&D more if they want to keep a lead on the EV market, cause they seem to have already lost in the EV pickup range with the Rivian and the Ford F150 lightning already out and the new EV Toyota Tacoma coming out this year, I'm not even sure if the cybertruck will if ever come out.

Actually heard from a friend of mine who has a Model Y LR and they mentioned that the unlock problem is with iPhone vs Android users. They mentioned that iPhones dont constantly have their Bluetooth searching for nearby devices to connect, while android does. Its much more seamless and he hasn't had any problems in the 1 year he's had his Y. Also the 19in wheels make a world of a difference to the ride quality. The base of the car never touches the road or small debris on roads (even dirt roads) and its much smoother and less stiffer than the 20inch wheels. For the interior buttons, he had the same issue as Austin's, but they added those triangle S3XY touch buttons all over the dashboard and one right next to the glove compartment too, made it very convenient for him to access basic needs like changing driver profiles, folding/unfolding side mirrors, AC on/off, etc. (Like with the AC on/off control button, he said he just pressed the button, the AC would turn on and the screen would show the temp, fan speed and vent directions on the screen for easier use.

If you question me, I tell you that I test drove two Teslas for myself. Teslas should be £15,000 - £20,000 not £50,000, it just doesn't make sense. Beware, Tesla is a scam. - Add on: Before I went for my test drive, it took me 5 minutes just to open it. I placed the card onto the door pillar where it was meant to be and it just didn't open, Tesla should just make a key for goodness sake and trying to be "unique"!! I don’t know. I know a lot of Tesla owners who absolutely love it. Maybe it depends what you compare it to. People coming from Mercedes or BMW May think different than people coming from Honda. I know price is a lot more than a Honda. But more number driven, tesla ranked #1 in brand loyalty and satisfaction ratings. Some of that stuff you could have mentioned at the get go to have resolved. Interesting you went into market stuff when you said you didn’t want this to be an anti Tesla video. Tesla is arguably an amazing company from a business investor perspective. They may only have 4 models with 5 on the way (semi, cyber truck, roadster, van?, compact car), but they also have their robotics, ai, solar, mega pack, charging network. And they are vertically integrated. Yet they have far fewer engineers than other companies which do have more vehicles, but also use so much third party vender, so much of other vehicles are actually not designed in house. Tesla being able to make such a profit, even with those QC issues, is also quite a feat. Lastly though there are cost cutting measures, you’ve said it yourself that through OTA the car has gotten better. This is something the industry is finally trying to follow but just aren’t there.

One more thing I think the chances of Bluetooth not working is so low as it basically depends on the phone or some other factors. I think if the seat cover comes off it will be covered in the warranty. This is not some guess or Tesla fan, I have been using tesla model y for almost 2 months now, I had no issues that made me think buying a Tesla was a bad decision. I think there are some issues that might come with any car. I had one issue where sentry mode was not working properly, but Tesla fixed it in two days with no charge to me.

The issue of interior components falling apart is not subjective, as it is a clear problem. However, what is subjective is how many issues one is willing to tolerate before considering it to be a significant problem.
