I have the same diesel engine in a generator and did the same thing as your mini excavator did it was the fuel filter and passed some water from condensation in the fuel tank. I put a better fuel filters on it and it solved it no more smoke and rough running. Food for the though.

Always a good story. Glad it went before the warranty.

Digger look like to me that the piston rings had gone oh stem seals burning its own oil Engine oil new digger to me looks and comfy with the roll cage going through the seat what's that all about that all about 👍👍

Was that a chengchai engine or Koop engine? I had a chengchai engine and it hand grenade on me aft 150 hours of use.

Mine did this today, while wife was digging some cable trench. I ran out and pulled the decomp-lever and it finally died. Will probably do nothing but try to restart it tomorrow. Thanks for the video.

@@georgesanderson8050 Started just fine. Now it happened again yesterday, almost right after cold start. Turn off and restart again without issues. Hmm...?

Check the blow-by and the crank case ventilation, if the motor oil vapours come that way and cause the engine runaway. At runaway, the diesel engine does not use much oil at all for burning. So the oil level in the sump is not telling you much. Blue smoke is a sign of oil burning. The oil is entering the combustion chamber one way or another.

Is the XN10 an upgrade?

Hey there, I have also had this issue a couple of times, but I was able to stop the engine by throttling down, what I found is that if I start the engine with to low rpm/throttle the engine may be forced by the first fire to run backwards, you can hear it, it sounds different starting up and running. this might be what happend here as well, but you let it run for longer then me, causing it to smoke like this. just a theory :-) happy friday

Yeah, have the same issue with mine. But it works with throttling down and restarting with more throttle

There's this story of a guy that goes to his dealer to repair his car engine. Dealer looks at it, whacks it with a hammer and car runs fine again. "That'll be 501 dollars please" "WHAT?! 501, for a whack with a hammer?!" "No, 1 dollar for the whack, 500 for knowing where."

I was going to offer suggestions on what to try next, but it seems to be a moot point now you've got a replacement. :D

Glad you got the replacement. I hear nothing good about the ChangChai 499cc diesels that come standard with the Xiniu XN08. When I imported mine into the US 2y ago, I installed my own 420cc gasoline engine and it works great. The L100 China-clone diesels are not legal here due to emissions restrictions. As for your failure, it could be a bad governor as you said, but I suspect engine oil may be getting into the air intake thru the crankcase breather.

Great job sir, way to go on getting them to replace the machine. Though when doing that, you should have paid the difference and got the Kubota. Way better engine

There are several videos on KZread of people building their own excavator and some people build a backup but they call it an excavator cuz they don't know the difference. An excavator can take 360° around itself without moving to tracks. A backhoe only does half of that range.

The replacement digger was likely one that had been swapped on another warranty claim and repaired in their regional workshop. That's how most "Light machinery" is deal with for warranties these days. If this particular replacement digger WAS new, It's probably just because they didn't have any suitable like for like used machines to swap it with. MM's old one will most definatly end up going into warranty swap stock once fixed. It works out cheaper in the long run to have five mechanics repairing stuff for their whole shift in a clean workshop with all the parts and tools they might need, and paying minimum wage to couriers to exchange the faulty units. The alternative is to hire fifteen qualified mechanics, buy/rent 15 vans for them, buy 15 identical sets of tools and buy a stock of spare parts to fill those vans. Then deal with insurance, fuel cards, vehicle maintenance, and accident/breakdown contingency's (In short, set up a transport department). Then pay the mechanics industry standard wages while they spend two thirds of their working day just driving all over the country, so they can spend that remaining third of the day actually doing the work that pays the bills. Doing simple "like for like" swaps also means that if a mechanic finds that a returned machine requires replacement parts that aren't on hand, they can just start repairing another customers returned machine while they wait for parts to arrive (The customers already got a replacement machine, they don't care that their old one may take an extra 2 weeks to get fixed. They're unlikely to ever see it again anyway). If, on the other hand the mechanic had drove 2 hours to get to the faulty machine they may only have the choice of abandoning the repair, driving to the next job and rebooking that work for another day, Or having to wait around for half the day while the parts are same day couriered to them. Neither choice gives the customer a warm fuzzy feeling toward the company. It's a system that usually sounds uneconomical, but once you crunch the numbers, it can offer a lot of cost and customer benefits over the classic "Repairman in a van" way of doing things.

@@rogmeonrn719 I like it a lot. When this one failed I got a choise. Return the digger and get the money back or get another one. I got another one so it seems the options around are not better. It is small. It uses old technology - direct operated valves - so movements are a bit jerky. But it is mighty strong and does what a mini-digger should do. It saved my back when working with ton after ton of stones and boulders. I like it a lot. It is small, it is noisy and makes big impressions in the lawn when driving there. I had jobs for it for a year. I have done those and added a few more. There are still a few jobs left to do and then what? Sell it? The obvious problem with the digger is the spare parts supply. I fear the day something breaks down since it takes so long time to find th spare part and then to get it shipped. See how much work you have for a mini-digger and check the rental alternative.

seems awfully familiar to an engine running on its own oil. Either because it gets too hot, a leaking piston ring, or too much oil, or a combination of these. Would've been a relatively simple repair I would think. But anyway, you fixed it another way.

from the colour of the smoke it's very likely running on its own oil. I was't that lucky and blew up mine 3 weeks ago. i have had tripped it over on a hill side, almost upside down, and started to rev like hell on its own oil. cylinder head gone, valves gone, decompression assy gone either. So as a result `i plan to add a solenoid shut off valve on the air admission and an emergency switch

It just wanted some attention.

I say he got a darn good deal! can't beat the dealer just giving you a new machine. You could easily buy several of these new for the price of a used popular branded machine. It doesn't matter what brand you buy, they are all made in china

sounds like he got several hundred hours of very heavy use for Im guessing under 10k. Sounds like a great deal to me, even if he bought another one for the same price he would still be money ahead of a beat to hell name brand one.
