I Sight Fished Some Gar with a Berkley Choppo 120!

I didn't have a lot of time to fish because I had to get to work, but I was able to go check out some spots along the river to see how the levels of the water were doing. Decided to throw out some top water to see if anything wanted to bite at this spot and was happy about how the gar acted towards it. Thanks for watching!

Hard to get one of these on the hook. Persistence pays off.

Nice spot. Fished it when it was low last year. Gar are crazy fish.

I'd never fished in here before, but I have had luck where it empties into the river. Yeah gar are crazy; their teeth are no joke!

Where is this located? Just started fishing about a month ago around Cedar Rapids. Would love to learn some more! Mainly go for bass and bluegill

This is a little backwater/creek channel off a river I live near, gar love slower calmer waters

That was awesome. I will be on a lake near Canada loaded with Gar. I am hoping to catch one, but this is their spawning season there. They mostly swim in donuts at the top of the water and clamp their mouths at the top. I am also a bit worried about unhooking them.

Thanks! They are definitely tough to hold onto and their gill plates and teeth are like razors. Hope you can catch a few though, they are really cool!
