You couldn't get away with this now. But it's not racist at all, not so much because it covers quite a few countries. But more in the fact we as Brits are having a pop at ourselves. Simply because when it comes to learning languages we're pretty poor at learning them on the whole. So imitating the sound of the accent thinking we're communicating is hilarious.

And it’s not that they weren’t offended back in the day, it’s just that they just got away with it because no one dared to speak up. It’s not the comedian who decides whether something is funny or not, but the audience. Humor is subjective and culturally biased. And yes this plays on stereotypes which is why it’s funny because it’s true. It’s how people who don’t speak the language think it sounds like. It’s lighthearted and not mean. BUT if she had pulled her eyes while making her Chinese interpretation when the lady is Japanese, that would be racist. And racist people today still get away with things, and when people that are being mocked, let them know it’s not funny, ht hurtful, the common response is: “omg can’t you take a joke?” which is literally gaslighting and invalidating people’s feelings. Especially white people are used to getting away with racist “jokes” because it has been the norm. But now we know better, and that certain things is not okay to joke about for everyone… jokes are to be funny, not mean.

Don't you think it would be great to return to this lighthearted comedy. Why is it "abusive" or racist? Can we not make fun of people in a non-malicious way. Brits were brought up on these normal, healthy, programmes and that's why we ended up in a good and improving way before people that hate us dealt their poisonous attitudes. It was part of the basis of freedom to laugh and speak out and create relationships with fellow Brits black or white.
