I show BCPOV how we do things in ALBERTA...

Спорт

As you probably know, Eric and I have been riding and filming off and on together for a few years now, but normally all this riding has happened on his home turf in British Columbia, Canada. Not today though! Eric, Yuka, Antoine and Isabelle were out in my area, so I took them out to the infamous Moose Mountain. With plenty of gnar and technical jumps and features, I knew they'd have some good/fun/scary times! Check out BCPOV's channel over the next couple of weeks for their end of the story.
A huge thanks has to go out to Alberta66 for shuttling us that day. If you're looking to hit up Moose Mountain, Baseline Mountain and/or get some guiding or skills coaching, give them a shout: www.alberta66mtb.com/

    I was at a trailhead not long ago and there were some kids there discussing who their favorite riders were. Of course, it's 2020 so they weren't talking about EWS guys or people on the UCI circuit - they were talking about KZreadrs. It seems pretty clear that a lot of younger and newer riders are entering the world of mountain biking via KZread. And having a popular video and a good thumbnail seems to mandate that the theme always be "watch me survive this massive feature". As a person who has been riding at Moose for years, one thing I think a lot about is how the social media stuff is pushing a lot of inexperienced riders to get in over their heads. People see this stuff on KZread, a platform that (as you know) never does anything justice, and soon we have another kid getting air-lifted off of T-Dub. This year has been insane with ambulances a daily sight at Moose. I worry for the future of the trails once the province clues in to the obvious trend. This isn't a complaint by any means. Your videos are among the best out there and you're doing a great job of showcasing the area. But I'm curious if this is something KZreadrs ever think about or struggle with. At the very least, it'd be an interesting discussion for a video ;-) Cheers.

  • @TheLoamRanger

    @TheLoamRanger

    Beth and I talk about this often. We've also chatted about this subject with the main people at the Moose trail society and from what they've shared with me, the numbers of people in general have skyrocketed this year, with many riders being new to the sport as you mentioned, so more injuries were expected . When I put together videos like this and others, I always try to clearly show that 1) I've had to work my way up to these features, which takes years 2) I take my time looking at the feature, doing run-ups, following riders who have already done the feature many times and 3) finally attempting the feature *if* I feel I'm ready in that moment. So I feel we try our best to show the correct way to approach hitting big features/scary trails, but there will always be people who get in over their head after watching me hit this stuff, which is a bummer. They're certainly more brave than me to rush into hitting these bigger features!

    You were fuckin shreddin today. Be careful with that bike givin you all that confidence. You're still getting bucked a bit to the side when linking 2 things as you go through all that suspension. Thing looks great though. Your PoV clips with the black n yellow frame and dual crown fork looks aggressive. Bumble bee DH.

Jean Guy might be one of my favorite trails on the mountain now. You're going to need to head back out there and film the whole thing!

    Daniel, I live in Edmonton around 142st and 118ave. I have noticed in riding around the area, lots of HUGE buildings that are empty/not occupied. An intelligent person with some business savvy, could make a killing. You are right. Theres nothing here. How cool would a dedicated indoor mtb park be? Have you checked out any of the "Ray's indoor mtb park" videos? If they build it, I will camp out overnight so that I can be first in line. The place would be packed in the winter. If you put this bug in the right ear, it could happen. It would be like winning the lottery.

    Sometimes on a bigger feature like that, you're just bracing for impact and so when I hit the ground, I knew I hit kinda hard, but didn't realize it was because I sent it too deep. The next run I didn't bottom out, so I hit the sweet spot.
