I set EVERY NATIONS Youth Rating to the MAXIMUM and this happened...

Ойындар

Welcome to TomFM! In today's Football Manager 2022 experiment video we're continuing experimenting with youth ratings in football manager. Last time we set all the youth ratings to 1, this time I set every nations youth rating to the maximum to find out what would happen...and it was quite eye opening! We're making the assumption that dynamic youth ratings mean that they can go down, but will they? And how important will our hypothesis of Population being super important be?

How about trying to set the game importance, FA financial power etc. to lowest instead of highest? maybe with 200 youth rating, maybe with 1, too, also you could look at some of the best players in the world if you do it with 1 rating (i imagine they wouldn't be very good but it'd be curious to see just how bad they'd be)

I think it would be really cool to experiment on how much the game importance and population actually affect the PA. Rather than the country's performance. That might be hard though. Maybe going into scouting and sorting by PA ever 10 years, but that's still a lot of work.

Although this is an old video, I believe that Tom's hypothesis of population and club rep being variables is correct. Still, another important factor affecting countries' world rankings is the population and reputation of countries nearby or in the same region (as FM categorizes it). If it's lower, then the country will have a higher world ranking.

I'm late to the party here, but the most direct way to test any hypothesis is usually to attempt to disprove it rather than to attempt to prove it (coupled with appropriate sample size). Maybe you can use this in FM23 experiments! I'll use this video as an example. Your hypothesis that population + club reputation (as compared to other nearby country's top club reputations) is interesting. Implicit in this is that these two factors are more important than youth rating. One way to test this is to isolate countries with high populations and high club reputations (compared to neighbours), and give them very low youth ratings, whilst giving everyone else (or just low population/low rep nations) very high youth ratings. With enough data, and enough experiments, you'll probably start to get less confusing signals from the data, and more useful predictions from your hypotheses. Hope that makes sense!

I know this is kind of an older video now, but I really think it’s a trickle down effect. European clubs will always remain near the top because of the reputation of all of the competitions. The clubs retain their reputation because they compete in the highest reputation competitions. I think the full control test would be to set every competition in the world to a neutral 5000 reputation (leagues, continental comps, etc) as well as giving every club in the world a neutral 5000 rep (clubs and national teams). After that, the only thing I think would be a factor is the prize money. I don’t really know what a neutral prize money pool would be across the board, but I feel like eventually, the nations with big TV deals and prize pools are going to start rising up to the top again. I think China is just such an outlier in terms of their money and population. Like Chinese clubs have plenty of money, people forget. The reason India didn’t shoot up the rankings is because they can’t buy high reputation players.

Sorry for a late reply (I just found Tom's channel), but I think the reason why India isn't ranked higher is because most of their wonderkids were told to be doctors and engineers by their parents. Meanwhile, China probably experienced a nationwide football boom because Stephen Chow finally released a Shaolin Soccer sequel.

Maybe have another look at the save file, and instead of looking at national rankings but how many top players each country has produced? For example, look at the top 1000 PA players and see how they split in terms of nationality. If China has 20% of the world's population does it have 20% of the world's top players...etc.

Could how much a nation is scouted affect how many potential good youth players are generated. Like in the case of South Africa they are the only Nation in Africa that has a build in league, that is bound to elevate them above all their neighbours. Bulgaria and it's league often climb the coefficient ladder in other experiments like Elecspo's attempt to raise the Scottish league, Bulgaria ended up winning the world cup. Same in another experimental video where their league ended up no. 4 in Europe. But I mean lol who knows, great video pal

  • @TheGkUnion

Bulgaria probably goes something like this: Every neighbouring nation has 200 YR but not every nation has as high reputation clubs - there may be a lot of youth players from bulgarias nation being taken in due to having higher rep clubs & league. Also, the Head of Youth Developments reputation also has an impact on the youth cycle. If you stuck a 10k reputation HYD at Ludogorets they would attract the best players around them. Just my idea :)

What's interesting with all of these experiments that simulate 50+ years is that a sort of Butterfly effect shows up in almost all of them where a sort of random event or circumstance avalances into e.g. South Africa being one of the best countries in the world or a random third division Swiss side becoming a European powerhouse

I know this is an old video - but I just stumbled across it. I think that if you wanna experiment way more, first you should do the same but with blocking transfers for all teams in the world. Then we could see how youth players whom grow up in these countries and clubs developed. Obviously in these video they moved to best clubs in the world and could reach they full potential - so many Chinese players make sense. But that kind of an experiment, could prove that many other factors play a role in this - economic factor of country (which for me is the reason why South Africa is better than Nigeria and Egypt), FA financial power, country facilities, country reputation and league reputation as well. Also importance of a league or game surely affects it - this the reason we don't see USA here - football in there means something else :p

Dont think your hypothesis is far off. It seems like need to work out the equation for this. i.e. Nations Success = x+y+z why dont you find 3 nations with the same population roughly, set youth status at 200 and other metrics the same but make their top clubs have different reputions and see how you get on with those specific 3. Then another 3 with different populations but set club reputtions to be the same? Can then repeat with additional metrics!

yeah, lot of these experiments they just choose english league then wonder why england does so well. the database is affecting the world, when something is selected it will be stronger than the rest. i havent played in a long time, but when i did, i had so different experience each time with small, medium and large databases. with large you get more players but medium seemed the biggest randomness, where no name players turned out super good.

Maybe you could reverse the youth ratings with the lowest becoming the highest and highest becoming the lowest just to see what would happen. I'd also set every single club reputation to 1 (I'm aware that it'll be very time consuming) I'd also have everything else set to the exact same, again to see how it works out.

I love the rise of South Africa 🇿🇦 I always do a journeyman save, beefed up the league and play as Chiefs, Pirates, Sundowns, Ajax and Amazulu bringing in big african talent, then manage the national team to AFCON and World Cup Glory. They generally always do well in home grown talent as african nation in FM. Would love if you did the same save dragging an African team to African Champions league glory and manage an african country??! 🤔

The popularity inside the game for the clubs is always going to be higher for the leagues that are built into the game. For example, in Africa, the North African teams particularly Ahly & Zamalek from Egypt, Raja & Wydad from Morocco and Esperance from Tunisia are the biggest five African clubs, yet the game will always favor the South African clubs because they are in the game whereas the North African leagues are not.

I just had the problem of young players switching nationalities in my latest run. I had 11 players from the US start with a 200 potential but 10 at everything but determination, 20, and perfect hidden attributes start in the Man U youth system. Half of them decided to play for England while the other half stayed with the US national team. I haven't played 22, but I'm going to disagree with the population/reputation because of the USA. I gave the USA 200 youth rating, all the clubs 10,000 reputation, all club facilities 20, and it did basically nothing. The club rep dropped back to what they were before within 20 years and the highest the US got was 9th. Ninth is something they could've gotten organically. Even after 40-50 years, nothing really changed. Now, maybe the US isn't the best example because the MLS's salary cap. I'll grant that's a possibility. But they still should have gotten great young players in their youth system.

Dude, you're forgetting that national clubs are playing most games against clubs on the same continent. That's why we're seeing South Africa so high up on the list, because they're just outcompeting all of the other African nations and don't have many games against nations from other continents. The way I think how newgens work is that population obviously denotes how big the pool is clubs can potentially draw talent from and youth rating denotes how well this pool is utilized. The rest comes down to reputation, as clubs with high reputation can draw talent from other nations and make them change their nationality. Maybe have a look at the names of players in these countries to test this hypothesis. Does Spain have a lot of players that sound French? Does China have a lot of players whose names don't sound Chinese?

Romania has a much higher population, and higher density than Bulgaria, yet Bulgaria was very high up in your save. Also Hungary, its a total shitfest, and also wont explain population centres, as ukraine is higher paying, and both turkey and ukraine snatches away players with better salaries in east and balkan area. Its interesting that City upgraded the facilities but chelsea didnt. Hungary has stadium upgrades going right now which might be persisted in fm world. Maybe its a self feeding algorithm, a good player is generated, then recycled like 'reincarnation' then the rivalry makes players better compared to others, would be interesting to run several projects, as databases can change each time. Population might be right, the more players are generated, the higher the chance, some of them are better and develop better, explains china but has a huge advantage over others in that regard.
