This video truly shows the evolution of the hobby, from the old balsa wood kit to the 3D printed parts you are now producing.

Radio Shack was started in 1921, and bought by Tandy in 1962. I bought my first CB radio in 1976 for my first car, a 1971 Dodge Polara Brougham, while in the Airforce. 😊

I like the old original auto era cars too. There was so much innovation going on at that time. When I go to National 1:1 car meets, like Hershey or Dearborn, I spend 2/3 of the day looking at pre-1940 cars. You need to build a storage loft in your garage, Mathew, with one of those ladders on tracks like they use in libraries, so you can get up there and store/retrieve kits! And I'm thinking your chickens are actually "hams", they want to be on camera again! 😃

Bust the flyer open. they weren't shrink wrapped back in the day just like Jo-Han kits and many others. Usually the distributor or the shops shrink wrapped them to keep kits from being opened until sold. "i' ancetre de l' automobile" The ancestor of the automobile.

There's a good chance that those blue wheels for the Hudson Miniatures model T car where made from Bakelite. That was a resin invented early in the 1900s. It was the first plastic.

The USAirfix Model T Ford is an Airfix kit. They had a series of 1/32 scale vintage car kits, mostly of British and European types, and a separate series described as modern cars, which were 1960s and 1970s types in 1/32. A few of the "modern" ones were reissued recently in their Vintage Classics series but it's been about 20 years since any of the pre-World War II cars were available.

As you're in the USA you might also find the Airfix 1/32 scale kits reboxed by MPC who issued them in their "customizing" series in the late 1960s and as straight versions in the early 1980s. Some of the custom versions were just weird - a drag racer version of a 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost?@@modelcarvideos5829

Very cool models! Don't know if someone already gave you tip on the balsa wood or any wood. You need to varnish and sand the wood until it is hard and glossy at the surface, enamel will lay down beatifully after that.. Also you can coat the balsa with superglue which gives even more hard and smooth surface, but is kinda messy and obviously smells alot. I learned these while I was building ships in bottles, I would encourage modellers to try their hands on these kinds of works because it will raise the learning curve quite a bit and you start to appreciate more model kits that have issues and flash because someone has already made the biggest job for you.. The parts needed to finish the model.

Interesting haul. With the old balsa wood kits, generally the kind of paint used would be model airplane dope. I'm not sure just how to thin that out to use in an airbrush. To the best of my recollection, that stuff was already pretty thin, in the can. At that time it would have been brush painted. That would require alot of painting, and sanding for a smooth finish. A serious Lot of work. My father and I built a couple of flying model airplanes back in the early '60s. I don't recall seeing small hobby specific airbrushes in hobby shops, much before the mid to later 1970s I agree with one of the other commentors here, those blue wheel/ tire parts are most likely Bakelite. If you ever build that kit, be careful how you sand the parting lines on those tires, that stuff can be kind of brittle that thin. And it does have a distinct oder to it when sanding. It would probably be a good idea to wear your respirator mask if you choose to build that one when you do the tire sanding. You Don't want Bakelite particles getting into your lungs. More than anything else, that stuff is Nasty!

Hi Matt! 6:06 I got 2 of those 1891 Panhard kits. I checked scalemates and they said they were only produced in 1964. I believe it says ‘the ancestor of the automobile’ on the box but I could be wrong. I picked mine up for $2 apiece almost a year ago at my local model store.
