I would never say anything negative about someone's choice....however, not all of us with gray hair can actually pull it off. My gray hair ages me 10 years, so I"m 50 but look 60. No thanks for me, but to each their own.

Perhaps the heat was affecting METAL in your hair. If your hair had no dye in it when it changed color...that's the only thing I can think of that would react with heat in such a weird way. PS: I do like the new color too, so all's well that ends well, huh? :D

I'm twenty-eight and almost completely grey. I try my best to dye it back to dark brown because I hate the way people view me as older but I get so fed up of it sometimes. I really wish there was less judgement about it.

Lisa Isabelle - I totally agree with you. Additionally, our culture puts SO MUCH emphasis on looking young, when what matters the most is living and thinking young, being healthy and loving to all those around you. I colored my hair for 41 years and I was so happy to get off that merry-go-round and not have to worry that I was competing with another woman, worrying that I wouldn’t be desirable to a man, and all that other nonsense that the ads feed us. They are in it to make money and if you pay attention, they target women in their 40s and 50s the most. I thought Lisa looked stunning with the grey.

Well said...and in a much nicer way than I would have managed lol. I've been white/gray for maybe 2 years now and I've never looked back. I finally have the exotic, beautiful hair I've always wanted and I don't have to do a darned thing to make it that way! Does it make me look older? No, or maybe yes, but only because people assume that white hair = advanced age. I think technically I look better which to me translates to younger. Well whatever, I don't care what age I look. I agree. The brown looks fake and "usual" to me. The silver was stunning. always use a blueing shampoo for gray hair to keep it from going yellow. They sell them at Sally's.

You seriously are gorgeous with every color. You have GREAT hair and an adorable cut. Have fun with it. ❤️

You changed the chemistry of your hair I mixing acids and bases. Your pH level isn't where it's supposed to be now... So what ever underlying pigments are in your hair were drawn out by the heat. Also, the "soap cap" didn't work cause you didn't add the lightener powder.

@@TheCecelianicole no, but there are u derlaying pigments in purple shampoo, which is deposit, which is hard to remove, esp w frequent use, which she did. That was in her hair... That, matched with the pH balance change from all the chemical "treatments" she did... Coupled with the high heat from the flat iron. The color change, with the heat, was a chemical reaction.

"Grey" hair isnt actually grey. There are no pigments. As you age your hair follicles loose melanin, which gives your hair color. As the melanin fades away your hair is actually clear. Not grey. But since hair strands are so tiny/thin and theres so many of them it looks grey. But it's actually clear, theres no color/pigments at all. The only chemicals/colors/pigments etc etc are from whatever products she is using.

So right! Someone payed attention in beauty school!!!!! In addition, The high heat from the flat iron is what turned her grey hair yellow in the first place. Excessive heat from curling irons will easily turn white hair yellow. It was scorched from too high of a heat setting. Then all of chemical reactions and messing with the PH and UH OH! Unfortunately for her we can't as colorists recreate natural grey very easily if at all.

Magick Moi my understanding is that it was the intense heat from the straightener (flat iron), combined with the multiple treatment residues her hair had absorbed that was the catalyst for the color change to burgundy.

As a professional I can tell you she permanently changed the natural color of her hair due to heat damage/coloring agents (the Overtone conditioner). Her ONLY option to keep her gray would have been to lighten it or bleach bath it, which she already said she had no desire of doing since she didnt want to damage it further, so her only option left was to color it darker and just completely cover the damaged hair (and stop using the flat iron of course). Gray hair turns yellow for multiple reasons, in this case the damage was irreparable since she essentially burnt through her cuticle (the outer layer of hair) due to a flat iron with, most likely, a faulty heat regulator. I think her brunette look bomb af btw, not a disaster at all.

@@lilcrabbybabby Yes, I hope she doesn't use that new flat iron anymore. Lisa, my favorite way you have styled your hair since going grey has been with no extensions or ponytail. Love the bob haircut on you without the straightening, which is easier on your hair. I liked the grey and the new color! You look awesome no matter what though!

I've been growing out my silver gray starting at 40 with the birth of my last baby. That was 15+ years ago. It was thick and beautiful. I got compliments all the time. Now with cancer treatments its falling out. I'm so sad. Good luck with yours. Be glad you still have your hair.

I'm sorry to hear about your hair. Have you considered using a cold cap during chemo? The theory is that cold constricts your blood vessels so less chemo reaches your hair follicles. Much love for your recovery!

I had cancer. And all my hair fell out with the chemo. It was weird, but then strangely liberating. Plus, it was summer in Houston and that is a good time to be bald. But it all grew back. Oh wow, thank you for this. I'm now two years into my natural silver hair after cutting it all off (started going white at 13, now 43) and it has been SUCH A PROCESS! He has a video on what flat irons and curling irons do to colored hair... it’s great! That is definitely a “burn”. Could be a multitude of things. A bad oil when heated it gets hotter faster than water 💦, product residue, I’ve even had a client use a hair mask that she didn’t know had henna in it do this.

Its looks absolutely gorgeous anyway. The contrast of the dark and gray is Perfect!

Only on the baking soda n peroxide part but you should only mix peroxide with non metal utensils as it reacts with the peroxide when mixing! 🙂

I have the same problem..my icy white hair turned yellow brown after keratin treatment coz it used a very high heat. Thankfully I managed to turned my hair back with this method : 1. I washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo ( I used Neutrogena ). 2. After i rinse the shampoo I used a white condittioner mix with 10 vol developer. Leave it for 20mins. 3. Rinsed it and Dried it. 4. Used a BLUE shampoo ( I used Fanola No Orange ). 5. Leave it for an hour. 6. Rinsed it well. Used a mix of water and WHITE vinegar as a final rinse.

Neutrogena anti-residue formula!! Will restore your grey. My iron turned my hsir yellow, after using this shampoo it fixed the issue.

I stopped colouring my hair about 4 years ago and have thought about the purple shampoos but I’m afraid of these reactions but at the same time I have some brassy colouring in my hair.

@@meelliemoe my experience has been to use the clarifying/anti residue shampoo for regular and i use a few "purple" shampoos every 3rd or 4th times. My favorites are Shimmer Lights (not the best smell) Matrix Brass Off and have a new one, Luseta Color Brightening. I don't put any product in my hair except natural oil for after conditioner/anti frizz, avocado oil, shea etc.

Your Grey hair was amazing, you looked stunning. When you were silver it certainly made me decide to go silver also. this was a few years ago, i love my long silver hair, the best thing I ever did, so I have you to thank for my decision.

I started my transition 4 months ago, expecting gorgeous grey hair. It’s growing in to a muddy salt and pepper. Am devastated. I expected a lighter hair colour. I am gonna aim for 6 months growth and see how I feel but I feel the same as you, I don’t want the muddy colour! I want the vibrant! Ahhh.... hair can be so stressful. So glad you did this video concerning getting the yellow out!! I have a lot of yellow on my hair. I use an Instyler sometimes and I believe that is what did it.

The yellow in your hair is burnt hair from the flat iron being too hot. The discolouration is a reaction between the overtone and the heat from the flatiron. You look amazing with dark hair- I think your golden blonde will forever be my favourite. *sorry, commented this before i watched the whole video. glad to see that you were given correct advice!

As a hairdresser, you are absolutely correct, once it's yellow, it's burnt, and nothing will correct it back to its natural state. High heat irons and natural grey are a no, no, bc you can burn it so easily. Especially with products and not knowing the various chemical reactions that can happen. I seen this happen to an elderly man and his "Santa" beard, which was being flat- ironed for holiday curls. All yellow, bc the stylist didn't realize how fragile white grey hair is. Even store hair dyes can react with Salon chemical services, so it's important to let the stylist know what products you use.

@@sandaysunday7997 Yes. 100% The flat iron has to be ceramic, low adjustable heat and with a really good heat protectant. WHITE hair is really delicate. Think of it like ironing something made of silk.

Crucibelle Heat can burn hair. Have you ever ironed white fabric at high heat and had it turn yellow? It’s definitely possible. Try it some time.

I hate heat styling, in general. Better to let your hair dry naturally, whenever possible, whatever the colour.

I'm about to be 36yrs old and already have my silver growing out, which looks crazy awesome against my black hair. I'm so glad I found this bc I think if my hair changed like that I would melt.

I like the darker hair. You look younger before, but I felt like the gray add it on a few years. This color makes you look much younger.

I actually felt physically sick when i saw this. I am devastated to see your beautiful silver hair ruined. I have just gotten rid of my last bit of colour dye by chopping a short bob which i love! I'm so sorry you had to go back to the dye bottle.

I absolutely Loved your Gray hair it looked really pretty on you. you look good in any color. Gray hair doesn't make you look old.

Your hair has so much body and it looks pretty when not straightened. Like after you first dyed it, it was feathered around each side and looks stunning. You remind me a little of J lo so pretty. Love the hair 😊. The coloring mishap I'm pretty sure is because your heat is too high. Try lowering the temp on the flat iron and see what happens.

Grey hair looks great on young peeps .. it's called old lady grey .. I am older and it makes me look and feel old .. I am single with no grandkids so I like to change it out .. grey silver looks great on peeps with tiny features and young skin .. end of story .. get real .. I cover with a vegan pink that makes it violet and it washes out showing some silver and that's awesome . to each their own but in the end unless your older you do not know how we feel ... xoxo

Your natural hair was is so beautiful you made me want gray hair!!! I'm crazy jealous! Sadly my gray grows in one strand at a time and I end up tweezing the strands out because the strands grow in angry and rebellious! Like teenage rebellion! I think rather than waiting for the next twenty years and hoping for the best I might have to consider Fringe science next! Besides, my mother doesn't have a full head of gray hair either and she's knocking on age 70! (Maybe I have to consider cryogenics? Clearly I'm not going to age and gray naturally! Oh well, beauty is pain!)
