I did the trip on this train from Surabaya to Jakarta via Yogyakarta in October 2023. I enjoyed the trip. The compartment carriage was basically empty from Surabaya to Yogyakarta, it then filled up from Yogyakarta to Jakarta. I think it is a great alternative to business class flights (provided you have plenty of time). The scenery on the route through central Java is better than the route along the northern coast (however it takes more time). Highly recommended. I will definitely do it again in 2024.

From the Yogyakarta's city proper to the airport can get you between 1 to 1.5 hours, plus 1.5 hours to check in, 1.5 hours of flight and 30-45 minutes for your luggages if you have some. The time difference is marginal.

​@@bigtommytahoeof course you can use Argo semeru compartment at a Day (9am from surabaya), or Bima compartmen at a night (7pm from Surabaya)

Indonesian First Class Sweet Compartment” from Yogyakarta to Jakarta was the best 6.5 hours time I ever spent on any train ride.

The Indonesia Train revolution is amaze me, even for me as Indonesian. I remember when 2010s people can ride train without ticket, broken toilet, and people can selling their stuff on the train. Then, 2015s i shocked the train station system so organized, people without ticket cannot enter the peron. At 2021 i ride train economy class, but everything is clean. The toilet is working and clean. There is air conditioner. Im proud with KAI

I kind of missed the sellers on the train though ahaha. My family sometimes tell stories of delicious shellfish satay they occasionally bought during train travel when I haven't born yet.

Speaking of which, KAI released 'nostalgic theme' train a while ago iirc, with asongan selling some 'legendary' train snacks ( though they might just be train stewards in costume ). Was on board with this train from Jakarta to Surabaya.. I am a proud citizen to see the improvements of KAI and yes I had fun and enjoyed the trip. Anyway, thanks for sharing this dude. It is an awesome production, good information, clear video, nice chit chat.. this vlog was as luxury as the train :D

If you go by train from the southern route... you will get a nice view of the mountains, rice fields, hills... compared to if you take the train from the northern route....

As to the heated seats, Indonesia may feel comparatively hot for foreigners from cooler climates, but the locals may feel cold from time to time. I saw a video of Thais wearing winter clothing when the temps dropped below 21C.

That looks amazing. My one and only time on a train from JKT to Yogyakarta took about 8 hours, on a bench seat. Absolute torture and the food was horrible..!!

Re: heating, sometimes it can get cold in Indonesia, for Indonesian standard anyway. There were times in the past when executive trains in Indonesia can get quite cold, because they run the AC in full blast. Back in the '00s I would need jacket and such heavy clothing to ride (executive) train. That wasn't the case anymore, train nowadays aren't so cold even with the AC. Kind a bit hot sometimes even. Still, the heating is probably provided just in case some Indonesians feel certain day's weather and AC is too cold.

Yeah, me too. I feel 16 oC at train feels really cold. Sometime I need to cover my full face with jacket or hat so I can sleep, escially at night train hour

you can book it at: www.kai.id its only available on some routes though (i know it runs from surabaya and yogyakarta to jakarta). When you buy the ticket just search for the train called Argo Semeru Compartment

on the KAI booking website there is a route from jogja or surabaya to jakarta

FYI, nowdays there are many sleeper executive buses from jogja to jakarta with afordable ticket, you can reviewe someday

I was once in jakarta airport, visited the business lounge and after eating everything i saw, i felt on the plane the spice of all the food. Had to visit five times the toilet in 9 hours:))) as a european u r not prepared for spicy food, so, take care:))
