    nukunuku29.....I miss the Bear Jamboree show, one place I could watch the show and relax resting my feet after walking around the park all day..........I was so disapointed when the Pooh ride opened. I never went on that ride and it wasn't untill I saw a youtube video of the ride about a year ago and watched it.....I found out they had a tribute to the Bear Jamboree by having the 3 animal heads from the show on the wall they put them in one room of the pooh ride as you enter a room...but you have to look behind you to see them.

    Now, after seeing this, I think Disney should've left Splash Mountain alone or just spruced it up. The new Tiana story isn't big enough for a mountain. And already the alligator's mouth isn't moving when the character speaks. I wonder what Imagineer Tony Baxter thinks of this. Wasn't Splash Mountain one of his brain children? It's gotta be rough to see one of your masterpieces taken apart for a project that's poorly thought and presented. Considering how little story Tiana's Bayou Adventure contains, it could've been made into a Winnie The Pooh-like ride and placed elsewhere in Critter Country.

    Not sure about the story either, but to me it looks like there is more life now. The only things missing are still set pieces, that were replaced with maybe a single animatronic or background screens of fireflies. Its also hard to tell since cameras dont pickup things as well in dark settings, so it makes Tiana look darker and emptier then it probably is.

    The original Disney Imagineers had more imagination and storytelling because of the innocence and the history of the past, every time Disney gets rid of an iconic piece such as Splash Mountain and replace it with something new, it loses the theme of the bygone era, I’m saddened that Splash Mountain was replaced, when you finish riding the ride, the music is forever embossed in your memory, “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay My oh my, what a wonderful day…… and so on, definitely going to miss Splash Mountain, nothing will ever take its place. I think the biggest issue is that by putting it in Splash Mountain's structure, we are forced to compare the two. This story (or whatever you want to call it) would have served well as a C-Ticket Fantasyland dark ride. There would be less dead-space and you can pace the story better because you are building from scratch. You can't shoehorn a C-Ticket into a purpose built structure meant for an E-Ticket. Fancy animatronics, lighting, and projections aren't what makes something an E-Ticket. What you said about exposition is spot on. A good attraction doesn't need it. "Lets help Louis find a band", "That's a good band lets keep looking", "That one's good too", "I'm gonna shrink you", "I'm gonna unshrink you", "Now you're big and can go to the party and celebrate having literally done nothing of consequence". The End.

    Totally agree! This would have been better as a Fantasyland dark ride or a ride in the new Disneyland Forward area. Making it it's own dark ride would also make it more accessible to younger kids that don't meet the height limit for this attraction. I feel like a lot of younger children would enjoy this ride, and it seems like that is the targeted audience. This just seems like a huge miss to me. Also should have been called "Tiana's Bayou Celebration", because there really is no "Adventure" in the ride's storyline.

    Imagineering has forgotten the art of subtlety. Rather than give visual clues that allow the guests to use their imagination and connect the dots, we are now given walls of text and dialogue. If the only way to tell riders what is going on is by having to literally explain it, then the scene/story is not set up properly.

  • @Sorcerer-SMC

    That’s honestly something I agree with, I mean while a Princess and the Frog ride isn’t a bad idea, I feel like a better option could’ve been a standalone Princess and the Frog ride rather than a Splash Mountain retheme that may have impressive animatronics and effects, but not much of a good premise or story. Though I will say it honestly is refreshing to see actually honest and fair critiques of Tiana’s rather than borderline rude and offensive comments from the toxic half of the Disney Parks Fandom. Because TBH, their “criticisms” for Tiana’s honestly come off as either nostalgia-biased or just straight up offensive. So again, it’s honestly a breath of fresh air to see some actually honest and fair critiques of Tiana’s rather than toxic criticisms.

Personally I do not prefer rides being changed, however I know Disney can do great work on ride changes (examples: Gardians of the Galaxy (fantastic ride), Incredicoster, Snow whites enchanted wish, Finding Nemo Submarine, etc). This ride does not fill the shoes Splash mountain left. To me it screams rushed, rushed, rushed, rushed, and not done for the right reasons unfortunately.

Disney has been able to re-theme rides in the past and manage to pull it off (like you said, Guardians and Incredicoaster are good examples), but Tiana's does not give me that kind of impression. You can explain it, sure, still doesn't make it make sense and it's still a confusing direction to head into no matter how simple of terms you try to put it into. Not to mention, why were "we" turned to frogs in the first place? They're not asking the what or the how, they're asking the how. The why. To look for critters? We were doing that before. You also mentioned how Splash is more "busy" than Tiana's....as in there is more going on. I think Tony Baxter was following the idea of the "Cocktail Party" way of making an attraction like Pirates or HM where there is a lot going on and you aren't meant to just focus on one thing and you tend to notice new things in each ride-through. Modern attractions like this, BATB, Frozen, etc. employ singular set pieces that are meant to have you focus on them. So you have set piece, space, set piece, space, etc. trying to force story beats. That's why it feels empty at times.

  • @2doot

    @2doot

    It absolutely tanks the re-ridability of it, though. The fantastic thing about PotC and HM is that no matter how monotonous it is and how many times you go through it, you discover new things every time. I've rode both countless times; HM is my favorite, and I still find a new thing to focus on. Sometimes things I somehow hadn't noticed my previous hundred and something ride throughs. This is a one and done. This new wave of imagineering is good for a one and done, you've seen everything you need to see the first ride through. I understand what they're doing, but I just don't think it works when Disney parks have made their name from immersion and visual storytelling. It feels lazy to FORCE you to look at a set piece, it feels very... Dead. And empty, ofc. Gives it less life.

    I was really optimistic about the change to Tiana’s, but I am pretty disappointed. I feel like there’s two stories being told that don’t tie in with each other. • @Thebigperson797
    @Thebigperson79727 күн бұрын

    I hate to be a broken record and repeat what everyone else is saying, but the lack of danger is really disappointing here. Part of, dare i say MOST of the reason I loved Splash so much was getting soaked after that laughin place drop, and the whimsical and borderline creepy music sets in, the anxiety builds, and the dark music and scenes creep up on you with the hedgehogs and vultures. As a kid, it was such a perfect mix of anticipation, anxiety, fear, and excitement that I am not getting at ALL with this new ride. Once you enter the dark ride portion, it’s a party. Nice, fun, bayou party. Then, you go down the laughing place drop and it’s still, a bit of a party. Bugs and frogs dancing around, Tiana smiling and bopping her head, upbeat music. Then, you’re told by mama Odie that it’s time to get to the party! Well… didn’t we just come from a party… and we’re in a miniature sort of party right now? Everything is so happy and it lacks any kind of real substantive plot. I kind of prepared myself for Disney to go this direction with the attraction, but I’m still disappointed. That’s the glue that held splash together. In my opinion, if you have an action movie with stunning visuals, monster fights, mind-blowing CGI, etc etc but it lacks a real interesting and substantive plot… I probably wouldn’t watch that movie again. This ride reminds me of that. I LOVE most of the new visuals, the animatronics, the bayou feel, the final scene, pretty much everything about it but because I’m not invested in the storyline, it falls flat. Darn.

    Judging from the video, this ride feels like it is the culmination of a first draft, as if they hadn't quite worked out all the necessary story details before they started construction. I have a huge love for Splash Mountain, and while I was sad to see it go, I understood the reasons. To that end, Tiana deserves an exciting and colorful adventure, like the movie. This ride is none of those things. There's no mystery, no danger, and really no story. It's not enough to move us from one scene to the next. We want to see a story. And we need to feel that element of danger. The omission of Dr. Facilier is so mind-boggling to me. Even the least-experienced ride designer would have thought of that (I mean, look at all the fans mentioning his omission!). The excuse they are giving is that this ride takes place after the movie, but that that's an early-stage decision that one would think could have been flushed out more before they started construction. How come no one stood up and questioned where or not this new "story" was exciting enough or interesting enough to replace the story of the original Splash Mountain? Did AI write this? I can only come to the conclusion that Facilier (and even the other characters like Big Daddy) are 'missing' because Disney didn't want to pay the actors for their voices, nor did they want to pay for the songs. And even if that were the case, how hard would it for the designers to through in elements of the Voodoo or black magic sequences from the film? Huge, huge missed opportunity and even bigger disappointment.

    Tony Baxter must be heartbroken. Those whom I refer to as "Lack-of-Imaginationeers" took his beautiful masterpiece and transformed it into a dark, emotionless mess with lots of dead space, no story and no fun. The band "critters" aren't really audio-animatronics, more like figures that rock back and forth and move an arm, inadequate replacements for the elaborate characters from America Sings. There's just no comparison between the memorable characters with personality and dexterity like the geese, chickens and vultures from Splash Mountain when compared to the simple generic animal figures in the new ride. When I watched Disney's video of Tiana's Bayou Adventure, it felt like I was watching something from a knock-off park in China, trying to present a Disney-like attraction on a shoestring budget and failing miserably.

    Well... the ride has a lot of upgrades. The scenery is better, the animatronics are great (just wish there were more and a variety of ones), the lighting is very nice (besides the blinding spotlights on the main drop), and the finale/final scene is a lot, LOT better. But most of the ride is just scenery or just dark areas, I feel like Disney took the easy way out with that. They could of done so much more than just making areas dark or filling them with scenery (although in some parts it does look nice). And like most people think, there is really no story. Its all signs and monologues. They could of done so much more with the ride. But, I'm happy that they did improve some parts/aspects of the ride. If there was more of a story and more things going on in the ride, it would of been extremely better. Thanks for a great side by side comparison and reaction video!

    I just have issue with the story … there’s no suspense and so it doesn’t fit a ride that has drops. It’s more suited as a ride that just cruises along like small world, jungle cruise, or living with the land at Epcot. And the whole story is just looking for musicians? And when you find them you just continue looking for more musicians? Call it Tiana’s Blue Bayou River Cruise.

The original Splash Mountain was a total concept between the falls/Splash and the Storyline. Here they just put a light and nonsense story in a ride game system that cryes for a good and thrilling story

Instead, it's a total snooze fest. A *sorely* missed opportunity to add "Are You Ready…" 🎶 Overall, the storyline is convoluted and trying to be too many things at once. You need to gather musicians! Oh, but you also need to be shrunken down! Now you're a spice! WHAT THE HECK?!? In my opinion, they should rework everything from the part where you get shrunken down to the final drop Disney, you were almost there!

    So as someone who was all for this retheme, I have mixed feelings. The good is the animatronics, the music, the lighting, cgi usage, and that finale. To me, that finale far surpasses the originals. The issues with this ride, and sadly that's a major problem, has to do heavily with the story and the third act. The story feels way too all over the place with no actual direction, where it feels like we're just being thrown back and forth. Worse is that it doesn't even feel consistent. As for the third act, it really needs a threat that gives us that aura of foreboding that the original had. They should have made the third act focus on friends on the other side and bring the shadow people back, where the lift has Dr. Facilier trying to get us before we take the final plunge.

    There is a lot of little things that drag down the attraction. Not using instrumental music in the outdoor section removes the impact of falling into the first indoor show scene and hearing the singing. The Tiana animatronics have no variety, just standing there and talking about the party. The critters barely move or have personality. The bayou doesn't feel alive when the only animals there all group together in one of three places. The context of the big drop does not make it feel any different from the other drops on the ride. Splash felt like it came from artists who understood that theme parks are their own storytelling medium. This feels like the imagineers failed to realize how all of the scenes and elements tied together, instead just tackling each aspect as its own separate thing.

    David, there is barely anything happening on this ride. Aside from the scene of Louis looking in the log, none of the principle characters have what's called in showbiz, "business." They're talking to us about looking for critters but they're never shown doing that (again, aside from Louis in the log). This is basic stuff that was disregarded, probably because its less expensive to program the A1000 AAs for one mode: standing and talking. Every principle AA is standing, talking... not actually doing anything.. The contrast to Splash is stark, where virtually every character, large or minor, had business.

    There’s no connection between anything. -Bayou’s don’t have mountains, so the clay sticking through is poorly done. -The food part is pointless cuz “you” are supposed to be the “special sauce”. like if that’s the story, then jt should be that you strunk down into a frog being made into gumbo, that would have been a better drop scene without faciliar. - Finding the band seemed out of place because you don’t even really seem them play at the end. -The armadillo is faciliar theroy i love but then make him a big part of the laughing place scene, like he was lerking all along and then caught us by surprise or something. - The lighting at night is so irrelevant because it adds nothing to the on bord experience other than hide a bunch of inconsistencies. - the signs are so infuriated cuz not only are they telling you what’s going on, they repeat. - all the small bridges in the prior set, the daytime aesthetic, all the moving pieces between big scenes, the set pieces told story up to the walls, and they used a lot of forced perspective to create the illusion that you are in a bigger place. This focuses the story on very specific details to cue you in on whats going on, but it lacks because making everything dark makes you feel like everything is closer. Yes the action looks like it’s closer, but it makes the room feel small. - lastly, the story is lacking on so much. Over all, this is just another way Disney is cutting corners and it’s been showing since the early 2010’s. From the food to the to the rides, shows, hotels, guest experience, consumer satisfaction, and not to mention Epic Universe down the road has former imagineers working at universal and they taken every critique Disney fans have been saying for years and have been given liberty to create an amazing theme park going experience.

    It’s clear Disney spent some money on this, which I commend, especially for this amazing film. However, no amount of money or flashy animatronics can hide the complete lack of story and heart. They twisted themselves into pretzels trying to come up with a storyline when it could have been as simple as this… Tiana is throwing a party for the grand opening of her new restaurant and she invites the guests to come along. Along the way, Dr. Facilier intervenes and turns the guests into frogs. Luckily Mama Odie comes to the rescue and turns the guests back just in time to arrive at the grand opening party for Tiana’s Palace. Simple, easy and fun. This whole Tiana trying to find musicians which she finds 2 seconds into the attraction and then Mama Odie thinking it would be fun to turn the guests into frogs makes no sense.

    Gonna be a walk on lol. They will have to add facilier. Put the bands and tiana in the first half, make it spooky for a while, then keep the last scene as is. I dont get why theres all this dialogue/exposition about the food, and then its about finding a band. How about... no dialogue, no story, just good music and we go past the bands and enjoy seeing them play. It aint that deep. Telling us what we are seeing really doesnt help. Even using the video of tianas face smiling in the scene before the lift hill detracts hesvily from that. Let us look around and have our own emotional reaction. Instead shes smiling and its like they want us to smile. SHOW, DONT TELL. The getting small thing also is so weird. Just let us be on the ride (and this scene would be good to replace w something from facilier). The change in lighting and color was really important in splash mountain too. The shift frommday time to dark. This ride doesnt considern color storyboarding at all. I absolutely love your coverage. I commented early on while watching but you really covered every point and covered it well. Edit: to be fair i saw another pov with a full train of riders and they looked to be enjoying themselves. @2doot its like a bedtime story for pre schoolers. Really lame. Pirates of the Caribbean has a lot of dialogue but it is between the animatronics, and we are just passersby taking it all in. Its just setting us up to see and hear things in our surroundings much like you would in the parks or while traveling. In this ride, Tiana and the other characters are speaking directly to the passengers on the flume. Horrible. I was having a hard time w the dialogue earlier and felt it wasnt necessary but couldnt yet decide how you would have anthropomorphic animatronics without dialogue. Clearly its by scripting them to have them talk to one another, and not us. In some cases like rise and star tours and indy, it makes sense for the audience to be acknowledged. The old "something goes wrong", or "hey recruits, we need yoyr help" model. But this ride would benefit tremendously from them reprogramming it as if we on the logs aren't there.

There was detail in the sets surrounding the characters, as well as a sense of movement - something going on - in every scene. In Tiana's, virtually every scene is either a single AA telling us something - with nothing going on around the character, or a cluster of AA's as in the band critters - with nothing going on around the characters. Nothing fleshing it out, nothing telling us who they are, or how and why they got there.

If she has a group of musicians already, why are we looking for them? What is the reason for the party? I like the vibrant colors of splash mountain and everything to look at, it’s so full. Sadly in this case, I believe the project fell short at some point and they continued anyways, perhaps even against their own best judgement. In my eyes, there is no room for uncertainty or doubt, especially in this new era of theme parks. I totally understand that they may have been up against the impossible task of reskinning an existing ride but they may have wanted to take their time and ensure a more positive experience and outcome for all. Unfortunately I look at this as an L and I’m sure Disney feels this way as well. Or at the very least, will soon enough. Laughing Place Forever
