I know it’s not ideal to use a watch instead of a phone, but the fact that it was doable is really amazing. This was the stuff we used to see in old science fiction movies. What a time to be alive with the technology we have today.

What is holding back the AW is battery tech and carrier limitations or bugs which may or may not be on purpose from Apple to keep people from ditching their phones, however I would not say it's not ideal. Battery consumption is a problem even across bigger devices that (for now) is generally overcome by being more mindful of daily usage. With proper implementation a watch could easily replace a phone, outside of taking photos. It would definitely keep me from mindlessly scrolling on socials and you don't even need to worry about carrying/losing it. This device can adapt to you, rather than you having to be extremely aware of how your phone fits in every equation.

Great review! I've been doing phoneless days with my Series 5 cellular for a few years, and the battery life was the main concern as I would get about 75% of a day's usage with it. The Ultra is everything I could ask for and more, so far the battery has been excellent as most people don't live as active of a lifestyle as you do in NYC. For the average person who wants to ditch their phone and the distractions that come with it, the Apple Watch Ultra is all you need!

Wow , what a great review. Thank you! Been looking forward to find something to replace having to carry my iPhone daily. Sick of having it glued to me like I actually depend on it. This was a good daily test. Looks like the tech just isn’t quit there to leave you phone at home for good.
This is a really interesting question because so much of our days gets wasted with doing pointless things on our phone whereas the watch doesn’t give you those distractions and time wasting activities. I am very much intrigued by the idea of leaving the phone in the drawer in the morning, and having an active lifestyle with the watch as my wallet and navigator and fitness pal. The idea of having a lifestyle free of social media and distractions sounds like a major shift to a better life.

As others have said, review was great. Much better than an unboxing video where you don’t get any practical daily usage info. My experience was with an earlier Apple Watch model from 2018 or 2019. It wasn’t an ultra or anything. I loved it but the battery life started out adequate but seemed to diminish over the course of a year where if it got any moderate to heavy usage it would die or be in the red by 8pm. Still a very nice watch but I hope they can eventually can get these devices into more of a 48-72 hour timeframe so if you miss a charge on a busy day you can still get it charged up. Especially if you are trying to do sleep tracking and not placing it on charger at night.
What an awesome review. Someone actually taking us on a real world review and showing us how it applys to our regular lives instead of just hypothetical jargon. Awesome work Shervin, your an absolute underdog and are about to explode in the youtube world!!!

Being in NYC definitely had an effect on the battery life. When you use GPS quite a bit in places like New York I’m sure it’s screaming for signal in between the buildings and in the subway and using a lot of power trying to find it. My apple watch ultra lasts me two whole days and I swim for an hour every morning and ride my peloton every evening tracking both, I also wear it to sleep every night. I do live in Atlanta where it’s not as congested and I don’t use the GPS to navigate. I love being able to leave my phone and wallet at home and just have my watch to keep up with. I don’t even have to carry a key to my house anymore I have a deadbolt with a keypad. Technology is incredible. Amazing reviews.

I'm super interested in takes like these. As someone who works at a computer all day, I despise the low bandwidth of a phone interface, so I hardly ever use it. Ideal for me would be a laptop in my bag for whenever I sit down, and a watch on my wrist for basic stuff on the move. It's a shame devices aren't really made to support that kind of loadout in a cohesive way.

Superb Details video! this is what I was looking for. Thanks for making this.
This is the very first time he's used the apple watch ultra. With ANY device a battery needs to be used to zero and then charged to 100%, which increases the memory of any battery in any device. I have the Apple Watch Ultra. first day I found it lasted me probably the same amount of time on this video, however after 5 days of using it regularly and charging the watch up over night, I found by 4/5 pm I was on around 85%. Now, I've had my watch since the day before release. right now, I've had my watch on for 18 hours, constant use as my notifications are rediculous. I took my watch off charge at 7am on 6/10 and it's now 1:25am on the 7th I have 79% left. I find that I can now get 2-3 days use out of the watch before having to charge the watch again. Your review production is great, however I don't know if it's amazing to give an impression on the first day as if that's where it ends.
This was great! Would you consider doing it again but on low power mode? I'd love to understand the battery life/functionality trade-off.
@danlightened
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, he should have tried that at 20% or at least 10%. Since the watch doesn't have as many things running, the power saver mode should last considerably longer. And there should be like an ultra power saving mode where only 2-3 apps of your choice could run.
That's awesome you were using Google Maps natively on an Apple Watch! Was that hard to get set up? I've used iPhone before and it always seemed that even if I had Google Maps set up as default, if I opened directions via a link, it would want to open in Apple Maps. Forced issues like that made me go back to Android. These experiences took place on iPhone 12 Pro and 13 Pro.

Solid review man!
Awesome battery life. Actually it is very similar to my Galaxy Watch 4 LTE in which I leave home at 9am with 100% battery life, and around 16pm I am near to 20% battery life. The only thing that distinguishs my watch to yours is the fact that I do not use mine. I mean, no maps, and... no training apps, and... no calls, and... no messages, and... really nothing. If you want one of these you just have to keep it on iddle the whole day. Think with me... it is the same experience as Apple gives you, you do have a smartwatch LTE in your wrist, a big watch if you want, lots of style, you can see the time (thats not bad) and it has an iluminated screen too... And the best part is... if you do want to reach the lunch time (12pm) without battery, you could make 1 or 2 calls during the morning with LTE, but if you exceed like 5 minutes in call, the watch will turn off for cooling and will enter in flight mode. Its really awesome, please dont consider getting one! 😁 Nice review, thanks man.

Thank you for such an informative and handy review!
How many days after you got the watch did you do this review? I felt my watch drained so bad after the first few days as it was indexing …
Great video as always, Shervin. Really disappointed that the Ultra seemed to perform so poorly battery wise. I have the original watch SE cellular and this usually can get me to around 5pmish if using it exclusively throughout the day (to minimise screen on time). Admittedly I don’t work out anywhere near the levels that you do buddy lol. Look forward to your next video 😊

If I may ask, you said SE with Cellular lasts you until 5pm. At what time do you start your day, and do you start it with 100% battery? Thanks

@@BrunoRibeiroComboios I probably leave the house around 8.30am. Use the watch to catch up on twitter and a few iMessages. Watch at around 90-100%

Believe me, the Ultra will KILL the SE for battery life, apples for apples comparison…

No offense, but he was HEAVILY using it with absolutely no connections to the iPhone. Through areas where it may be low service at times (requires more battery to stay connected). It should far exceed your expectations. Mine should be in come November! If I remember I shall share normal day battery life
