How bout ya! Hank? @Hamiltonville Farm :-) If someone said this, I apologize Hank... I have worked on many land clearing jobs in the Pacific Northwest (Puget Sound ) Maybe I can help a little. (For Next time :-) 1st I would recommend a brush-rake for the blade. They speed the clearing up quite a bit and it keeps the dirt/mud out of the brush. ( Good for burning it or Hogs-Fuel ) 2nd a Wench on the Dozer. Great for pulling big logs, pulling equipment, getting out of the mud, etc 3rd Hogs-Fuel. In the Pacific Northwest when we want to keep working in the rain, We use ( What we call) Hogs-Fuel. ( Some years I have worked, It rained over 300 days in a row, I think...or about that. ) Lol Anyhow, 9 times out of 10 we would use "Cedar Bark Hogs-Fuel" because it floats a little. This way we can keep log trucks. rock trucks, gravel trucks , fill dirt, etc all rolling in and out. What Cha talkin bout IronWood? We don't have a lot of big Cedar Trees here. You might say Hank. OK, OK :-) You can use Straw Hay (works great on sand) The brush you raked up into a pile with some straw on top, Pine Bark, etc ( The bigger it is the better ) Great tips Hank.... If you have the time, Sunshine is the way to go friends.
And: dozing is one heck of a stress reliever. Ready to go postal because of stress caused by a world full of wingnuts? Jump on the dozer seat and start knocking stuff over, do some clearing, dig a hole. 20 minutes in and you're all grins without a worry in the world :)

Great video, I thought about renting a dozer. One was for sale locally - Cat D3B 4500 hours - $17K to purchase. Did charge me sales tax. So closer to $18K+. Had to buy a battery - & service it. I also own other equipment . I’ve owned it about a 1-1/2 years. When I’m totally done with it I plan to sell it.
Even with all the rain and other problems it sounds to me like you still had a good time and got your job done! I have operated dozers for better than 40 years and I still enjoy it just as much as when I started!

@@HamiltonvilleFarm my dad and I don’t need to rent a dozer, we own one. I don’t that it’s ever gotten stuck, we have actually used it to get other machines/trucks unstuck. The only problems we have had have been repairs/maintenance, we had to get it batteries 2 years ago, most of the hydraulic hoses/fittings on the front needed to be replaced, and it needed new fan belts as well as an oil pressure sensor this past winter. the belts and sensor might’ve been the ones that were with the machine when dad got it (sensor might’ve even been the original one). The dozer that my dad has is much older than the one you rented, it’s a 1980-81 Case 850B and runs very well for a machine it’s age
That was honestly a fantastic video

I was checking on renting vs buying, in my area the rates at sunbelt rental are 615-827 per day depending on the size. Plus delivery. 30 day rental I could buy an older dozer. It would be nice to have one sitting here when I need it.

Great video! Dozer
Several years ago I learned that a co-worker was going to rent a small dozer to clear his property to make way for a new home. By the size of the dozer and the trees he was looking to remove, I knew his was going way over his head. I strongly suggested that he hire a professional contractor. Apparently he paid attention and hired a nearby contractor that came in with the proper equipment and saved the co-worker a lot of time and grief.
Good job and God bless yall 🙏

Hi Hank. Just looking from an outside perspective, you created a lot of useable land on your property from all the trees and overgrowth you cleared. So, messy as it was, I think your efforts will be rewarded. If you want to make an omelet, you have to break a few eggs. It looks great. God bless my friend. 🙏😁

I run a komatsu D31P with swamp pads it will go good on soft ground. There's nothing like running a dozer.
I live just outside Live Oak, Florida and some places on our street you can get water at ten inches digging a hole with a post hole digger.

Crazy
I have a 90 gallon diesel tank you could have used. Being you have forks you could have picked it right up and took it to the dozer. As far as dryer conditions being better. It depends on the ground. The ground I was working on, the 450 I was running would barely cut the dirt. Had to rip it up with a root rake then blade off what was broke up.
@HamiltonvilleFarm
3 жыл бұрын
Right on
I'm kind of in the same boat, debating on hiring or renting. I started clearing by hand with a chainsaw but realized it's just going to take way too long and even after that I need to figure out what to do with the ground, and the window of time I have is short. Way too wet in spring, way too hot in summer, and fall is good but also a short season before the snow hits. if I could afford to take a sabbatical from work it would help as I could give myself weeks straight but it's only a few days here and there that I really have.
you also will be charged for cleaning the lower radiator shown at around 3:43
Good advice. Rentals make sense if well planned and you have the time for maximum use. If not I still think buying good used is a better option:if you can do most repairs yourself. Dozers are funny: if they are moving they are self destructing.

Thank you for Talking about Fuel. big thing you have to Remember is, Make sure and repeat Make sure it is filled up at END of Rental. when they pick it up. The Rental outfit who ever you Rent from, will throw in cost for there maintenance Return guy to Fill up Dozer. you pay the Price the Renter pays+ and a big PLUS the time for there guy to REFILL the Rented piece of Equipment, no matter what you Rent. so please Remember to FILL her DEF if it has that system and the FUEL tank. Also clean of excess DIRT build up in Track area. Clean the machine, especially the Track area. Return it in Basically the same way you got it. When Machine is Delivered do a walk around, take pictures of a ding/ Dent that stands out. any defects that look out of place. Even call the Rental person and tell them, it was delivered and you saw this or that.
Im assuming you rolled over trees. Whatd you do about stumps?
If its Raining- Park it up !! If its Wet Ground but Windy with Sunshine - give it a try but if its gettn worse - park it up
Bom trabalho 👍👍😎
So how much fuel per hour did you use? A friend wants an old pond cleaned up and reshaped. But I don't know if I should budget for 50 gallons or 500 gallons. Any idea would get me closer to a cost.
Would you of done it during a different month being February is wet season?
You probably went over some if not I would be surprised because I would be better off owning one and would be an LGP or low ground pressure tracks
So, would you buy a used dozer after having done the work, looking to future projects, or do you think you're done with the heavy equipment? Do you think you would hire the work done in the future, or use the Branson? You learned some great lessons and we should all learn something from your experience.
@HamiltonvilleFarm

Eh, It depends I would like one to have here at the house to do what may arise. But it would be hard to justify the cost of one to just sit for most of the year and me make up stuff for it to do. But the man in me wants one 😂
If you work out the All Costs and divide it by the Tons moved!!- its chicken feed !!!!!!!!! Ask a Guy to move the same Tons with a Hand shovel and a Wheel Barrow and he'd tell you to go do one !!
Great advice! 👍 Did you have to return it with a full tank of fuel, like rental cars require? (never understood that, to be honest)

I opted to buy a an older small dozer that should do most of what I want it to. I'll have an asset to sell when I am done, or something to keep around and use long term. It's depreciated about all it is going to. I just have to worry about any major repairs that pop up.

Very good Hank. A serious side when it needs to be taken serious as money might grow on trees but seldom is the luck of anyone else's own tree being the one that grows this wonderful if I only had a pocket full of that said stuff. By the sound of your voice it tells me that although you knew all worst case scenarios before hand. Still it is a more of a feel of the loss dictated by rainfall. That hurts to pay and not get at least something for accomplishments. A tremendous job Hank of presenting it well. Thank you very much
