Well, the Striga is based on slavic folklore - they were female undead, usually associated with swamps or murklands, possibly of women who drowned/died there. The barrel torso is due to bloating from the innards rotting, but other than that, they would have female features (and were often described as being able to mask their visage as when they were alive). The bloodied fangs and paws? Well they feasted on unwary travellers. And the 14yo girl? Technically, their form was derived from the bodies of deceased - and in the books, the girl was 14 when she was cursed to become a Striga...

Bro, your Pennywise is so much closer to how I have imagined it when I have read the book the first time in 1986. I always thought that both Curry and Skarsgard did not look like it at all. My imagination created a kind of partly decayed creature hiding these gross parts under make-up (which wasn't make-up after all). And it had an unnatural wide grin. A lot too wide. Congrats. Yeah Pennywise from the Book looks like a Clown, not a monster evil clown like 2017/2019 movies which should've been a 10-20 1 hour episodes on max. It's clown appearance is bait to lure children within ambush distance. Lures them in as a clown then becomes what scares them most so fear salts the meat of thr child just before striking. IT preys on children specifically because they have vivid imaginations and a werewolf scares a kid while overdue bills scares an adult. Because kids easily scare from monsters, IT preyed on kids primarily with exception because if they prey dies at a climax of visceral fear, IT says it salts the meat making the flesh taste better, which IT also feeds on fear itself. Just before they go back into the sewer as adults Richie makes a good point aside from saying something common sense like anyone bring guns? He points out that what if we go down there and it takes the shape of Alien from Alien 1979.

That's where every artist begins (or should begin). Because you first need to master the real thing to then be fully able to pic the digital brushes. The digital tools imitate the real ones, adding some tools that are impossible in real life (as the ctrl+c) but one shouldn't rely on those, one should already know how to fix a mistake WITHOUT the ctrl+z, for example. As a professional artist, I prefer to work traditional, and then use digital help if needed, since it's very useful, but not *instead* of the real stuff. Makes a huge difference in the finished job. ✨️👌

In German (to be more specific Bavarian) Folklore we have this thing called "Wolpertinger". It isn't really a monster, more like a chimera. It's always an "animal" mixed together of other animals. Probably most famous is the depiction of a Rabbit with Duck Wings, Fangs and Antlers. For more different variations I suggest Google lol. Either way, I'd love to see Jazza take on a Wolpertinger :D

I might also be interesting to try to work based on the feeling of the story instead of just the concrete description. Which I guess is most you get with most of the outer gods. I wonder what would happen if you just gave for example this as description and told it was an outer god and saw where it goes: "Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth's fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread."

Heck yeah, at least it would be funny to see him struggle with drawing the incomprehensible. I feel like with lovecraft The important parts are not what you can describe but the things that you can’t. Sort of like an AI generated image that I saw of live action Bob the builder. everything had Photo realistic textures. every single part of the image blended with everything that was around it in a way that was natural. only problem was that The distance each object was from the camera was not consistent. it is hard for the AI to know the difference between something being out of focus because the camera is not focused on it and being out of focus because the object is small and you are zooming in on it. I can’t describe what the image looks like just that the more you look at it the more wrong it appears. The idea that things can be far away and close at the same time is impossible to comprehend and yet there is an image of it that you can look at. Lovecraft would have a field day with that one.

I got into an art school at 20 years old (I'm 22 now), and have I think a good level since I was considered as the best drawer in my class, where there was some people that I considered really good. And when did I started? At 15! When the best I could do was freaking stickmans I swear to you XD I was not able to do a single muscle on a human shape without failing the muscle itself, the proportions, and the human shape 🤣But I really wanted to be able to draw what I want, started from nothing, loved that, and it became a passion! So I worked hard and put a lot of time at reproducing pictures, trying things I wasn't still able to do, and I progressed in no time I can assure you! (Maybe in my case I'm helped with the fact that I see every mistakes with ease on drawings, so I rapidly know what to work on and how, but that's all). And even before I entered into my art school, I was able to draw a whole muscular human without any picture and without failing the muscles, the proportions, the posture, etc. Maybe some very very rare people are talented at the base due to pecularities, but most of the time, it's just work. You put time and effort to be able to draw at a good level. Takes a lot of effort tho to do what he do (Draw things "only" from his mind), but if you love draw, you can do it, just like anyone else. I've seen many people like you. Heard it myself "You're so talented, I wish I could draw like you", or even "You have a real gift" and you know, it mostly piss me of XD I know it came from a good intention, but in the end it's almost an insult, cause it makes me feel that all they see is the result, and not the work behind that. The thousands hours passed to draw to perfect myself, wiped away cause people think I'm just talented. There's nothing about being talented or having a gift. Draw is like anything else, if you want to be good at it, then you must work for it. But anyone can achieve that level, it's only a question of time and will ^^

Grendel or Grendel's mother from Beowulf would be pretty cool to see. Also, Yrael (Mogget's true form) from Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series would be another great one. (Really wish they'd make movies out of that series. It's such an unusual world and concept.)

OMG YES! I’ve always had a very specific image of Grendel in my head, I’d love to see how it measures up to his depiction

I'll never get tired of watching the creative process you do before comitting to the final illustration I was able to guess the Striga. Granted, I'm re-reading the Witcher books at this moment so this description is still pretty fresh in my memory :) In the story, at the time when Geralt confronted her, she was a cursed 14-year old girl

From the beginning of this serie, I'm thinking of Ra'zac and Lethrblaka from Eragon's novels! I think there is a quite precise descriptions in the book and I'm really interested to see Jazza's interpretation! (and to see if he knows and will recognise them)

The Thing with the Striga is that the only one we meet in the Witcher books used to be a 14 year old girl that was cursed. So thats where it comes from, I guessed it btw, the red bloody paws and the way you drew them gave me some Striga vibes.

Oh, you could try creatures from Brazilian folklore, like Boitatá, Curupira, or Cuca. I'm curious about how Jazza would depict them, and I'd be impressed if he guessed any 😂
