please PLEASE remember to take your time and do not rush into transitioning. i would never want anyone else to have to experience something like this. the transitioning and detransitioning rate has been on the rise lately. transitioning has very permanent and serious affects on you so just please be aware of how serious transitioning really is. not to make this into a serious rant but you have so much time, take your time and you will discover who you are.

It WAS destroying her body in the sense that she took medication for something she didn't have, in the same way that if you take an antidepressant when you don't need it, you might get seratonin disorder. This article should've been more of a nuanced position of making sure you're ACTUALLY trans before you transition because it is permanent and not everyone is or will be transgender even if they want to be, instead of saying it doesn't work and it won't work for anyone and it's "mutilation"... if you're not trans and you transition, YOU WILL GET DYSPHORIA. YOU CANNOT JUST SAY YOU'RE TRANS AND YOU'LL MAGICALLY BE TRANSGENDER. In my opinion this is the result of people saying that you don't need dysphoria to be trans, non trans people transitioning, and then the dysphoria they gain leaving them extremely mad at the trans people who told them that they didn't need dysphoria.

Generally if they're find with you transitioning then they'll be okay with your sexuality. Coming out as gay is also a lot cheaper than letting that internalized homophobia lead you to believe that being attracted to the same sex means you're the opposite sex.

I asked my sister and friends to try using they/them pronouns for me. Then a different name. Bought a binder and switched up my gender presentation. Gave my new name when ordering coffee and started introducing myself as it when meeting new people. Figured out what I liked and didn't. Talked to other people in the trans/nonbinary community. Only after I had done all this, and was as sure as I felt I could be in my nonbinary identity did I consider what parts of physical transitioning I wanted. Coming to terms with yourself can be such an emotionally stressful time, and it's best to be logical and calm when it comes to stuff that's gonna last a lifetime.

I used to think I was bisexual, then realized I was actually asexual and biromantic. Pretty much everyone in the LGBTQ+ community once thought they were straight/cis then realized that wasn’t them. ALL these years I've been researching, going in and out of gender clinics, etc. And I never forced myself into anything I wasn't explicitly ready for. It's a long process (unless you have money to go private), and it's just... Ridiculous to me how they make it look so ~easy~ to fit their own narrative that "trans ppl r bad >:("

ive struggled w my identity a lot the past couple of years. i came out as trans ftm when i was 13, although i was technically i was outed in front of a courtroom during a custody battle. bc of me being outed i really struggled with feeling like my identity was mine and i often struggled with the thought that i was faking it or i wasnt trans enough. when i was 15 i forced myself back into the closet because everyone around me was ignoring everything i had to say about who i was so i thought that maybe i was wrong about myself. i wasnt, but i was only 15 and super susceptible to the opinions of other people around me especially the opinions of my family. i dressed more femininely than ive ever been comfortable with to overcompensate and try to convince myself that this is what i wanted. after a bit i realized what i was wasnt really me and that i should stop listening to family that dont *really* care about my happiness. so when i was 16 i discovered other genders like non-binary and genderfluid. i started to experiment with pronouns and different identities. eventually i settled on they/he pronouns (although now im thinking abt minorly changing my pronouns to he/they) after turning 17 i started to use the term genderqueer to describe my gender, but im starting to consider myself transmasc as well because i want to transition both socially and medically to present more masculine. i desire to be seen and recognized as male in society even if im technically genderqueer and not completely a guy. sorry for the long spiel i just did let me get to my point of this reply haha i wish that some detransitioners (especially like the girl sam is talking abt in his video) would understand that not everyone is faking their feelings abt being another gender than they were born as and i wish that theyd stop pushing this rhetoric that bc their transition experience was bad or didnt help them that, thats the case for all trans people im currently really unhappy with my life because i am unable to transition. i never recame out after determining that i really am trans and that i was wrong abt being wrong and i dont plan on officially recoming out until i move out. i see a medical transition making my life so much better in the long run anyway! sorry for this reply idek why im telling my story. maybe bc i thought the little bit you told abt yours was really cool lol. i hope youre doing well! and i also wanted to thank you. people like you are the reason why being trans is just a *little* bit more socially acceptable now. you came out during a time where it was much more dangerous to be out as trans than it is now. you were super brave to come out in the 70s and i really admire that :)

Sometimes we’re all confused and that’s okay but try your best to identify your feelings, and even if you detransition just don’t claim that transitioning won’t make you happy, because there’s lots of people who genuinely have dysphoria and that’s why they transition, not because they want to date a gender without being judged.

I have been questioning my gender for a bit now, and I think I'm settling down to he/him pronouns. But, after watching how she said she thought she was because she liked girls, makes me second guess myself. I feel way comfier with being a guy than I will ever a girl, and try my best to hide my chest in safe ways. My mom has been saying that I'm too young to even have to question myself and sexuality so much. But again, watching you say you knew at 8 or 9 helped me. My whole family is really religious and tried their best to support me when I came out as a lesbian, but I'm scared as to what they'll do if I say my a guy. My friends at school are calling me Toby and use he/him to refer to me, and I smile just thinking about it. sorry this was so long, i just needed to get it off my chest

From my research, exogenous T can raise your cholesterol, thicken your blood (polycythemia -- basically too many RBCs), and it can tip the balance into (pre)diabetes if you are predisposed to it (or if you gain 50 pounds, like she did). Of course, you gain the muscle mass and perhaps fat too. It also sounds like she did have shitty doctors, but it sounds like she was not taking care of herself, working out, etc. The thick, puffy, discolored skin? What's up with that? Meh. She wasn't trans. It does seem like there are easier ways to deal with being gay and having internalized homophobia. You can go to therapy. You can stay in the closet. Not recommended, but it's a lot simpler than transitioning.

@@gabrxael Potentially denying someone’s emotions is a risk I’m willing to take when the consequences of doing this can be huge. I would react the same to any potentially dangerous action one would take, like joining the military or getting plastic surgery. Someone questioning you on whether or not you’re sure about an incredibly expensive procedure that can harm you is someone I’d rather have near me than someone who will support every decision I make blindly. I can’t see why you wouldn’t be for people being questioned about a procedure that is as expensive and health impacting as transitioning into another sex. I’m not saying the woman who is detrans is not to blame for her actions, I’m just saying blind support isn’t something that helps people at the end of the day.

“While transgenders could date their same-sex significant other while looking like the opposite sex.” Feels really icky and problematic to me, because it’s showing her lack of acknowledgement towards the validity of a transgender person’s new identity, it’s implying that they’ll never truly change their gender and that’s so rude and untrue. It’s also pretty clear from the article that she was dealing with a lot of internalised homophobia, jealousy and self-hatred that manifested into a series of uneducated decisions and eventually into what looks to be unwarranted resentment, envy and judgement towards the transgender community

And then after transitioning didn’t work for her- since she didn’t need to do it and thought it was basically just a costume- she’s transphobic because “I regretted it, so will you.”

Especially because trans people definetly can't just exist and date their partners happily. Dating as a trans guy is extremely hard. Most women just see you as lesbians or man lite and men see you as a fetish. And even if you manage to find a partner a lot of people around you see you as not a man and treat you like shit. People who believe that trans people can just casually exist with no problems are ignorant.

Since I know this is an older video and I haven’t seen recent comments that demonstrate anti-fatness I just want to pop in to say that people can gain weight including trans people for a variety of reasons. And weight gain isn’t a “problem.” Sometimes weight gain can be a symptom of a illness. Just like sleeping isn’t a problem but sometimes we can understand that we’re depressed because our sleep is part of the things that we look at to evaluate depression. But other times weight gain is just bodily variation. Fat people are just as worth as thin people. Fat trans people are just as good as thin trans people.

I’m 66; I transitioned at 45. While, I wouldn’t recommend waiting as long as I did (it was a different time), please know that there is LOTS of time to confirm that you are making the right decision. The original militancy of trans activists was to overcome unproved reasons for obstructing transition and to validate who we are. However, thèse successes led to too little responsible and informed medical oversight and in the last 15 years as the percentage of adolescents presenting as gender dysphoric has dramatically increased, the issue is compounded by normal youthful exploration for one’s identity. In the past that self-discovery might involve how one dressed, makeup, acting out, being a Goth or Emo or even exploring same sex partners. Now, unfortunately, some have access to hormones which effects are permanent emotionally and physically. Proper medical guidance and therapy is absolutely essential. Your video was well balanced and I hope compelling for your young audience. The whole purpose of a well-monitored and gradual transition particularly with a therapist or psychologist is to allow you to explore and experience the implications of transition before it is irreversible. Stopping transition is not a failure, it is as much a success as completing transition-a journey of discovery leading to who you really are.

I ended up realizing I had other internalized stuff and I no longer identify as trans. And that's ok. It's okay to questions yourself, but if you choose to rush into huge medical decisions without taking the time to figure it over then that's on u. It's not transgender people's problem that this peraon didn't give themself time to ask themself questions and do some internal reflecting.
