I redesign the ugliest SUV in the world into a sleek sports car
The Pontiac Aztek. By some (many) considered one of the ugliest cars in the world. The idea behind it was admirable however the execution and design left us a little confused. What if Pontiac brought the Aztek back in 2021? What would a 2021 Pontiac Aztek look like? Let’s find out.

Interesting exercise - I think you've successfully created the 1995 front engine Fiero hatch🔥
@johngreenwald2954

I was thinking the same thing! Definitely looks like what a Fiero might have looked like if it kept on going into the 2000’s.
To be fair, the Aztec was ahead of its time with the headlights being below the turn signal lights. Most SUVs look like that nowadays with their daytime running lights.

The Hyundai Venue, the car that i currently daily has that similar headlight design, below the turning signals.

Agree, it was the failure that inspired more success in the future. Ironically that pontiac died and yet the suv crossover continues.
Now you need to make a modern version of the AMC Eagle. It was a truly cool car. I always liked the front end, with the nice subtle curves at the bottom.

It should have been mentioned in the video that the AMC Eage was a smart re-invention of the AMC Hornet, prolonging its life cycle by making the most of what it was and in the process sort of inventing a new market segment without calling it an SUV, if you don´t consider the original Ford Bronco the first although that seems more like a cutdown light truck to me, but the Eagle arguably must have been the first mass production car to start out as a streetable car turned into one suited also for light terrain use. Kind of like the Volvo XC70 of its day.
The 2004 Ssangyong Rodius has to be among the top 10. And the Buick Rendezvous which shared the same platform as the Aztek didn't fare much better. Overall a valiant effort, but I can't unsee that generous front overhang.
@abrahamcasanova9901

I always thought the Rendezvous was uglier than the Aztek, but no one seems to remember it existed. I completely agree about that Rodius.

I had no idea Buick rendezvous was even a thing and holy shit it looks so much worse than the aztek what the hell. 😆 It's all round shapes and bubbly and swollen in all kinds of odd ways in the front and then that one random abrupt sharp line across the side back? That looks like it doesn't belong.
My wife and I agreed that the back looks like a delorian. The front looks a lot like a late 80's firebird.
freaking amazing! that actually works! the backend reminds me a bit of the dodge magnum without being a wagon. Love it!
That actually doesn’t look bad after those changes
I could watch you analize cars from google images for hours! so pleasing
Another great video. Looks sort of like it has a Delorean shape now.
You somehow managed to make an updated DeLorean at the same time.
Your redesign gives me some DeLorean vibes. I wish you had kept the original wheels, only make them bigger. The huge front overhang makes it feel very 80s.

Exactly what I thought he just needed to give it gull wing doors and a flux capacitor!
Looks great - love the squarish wheel openings!
Dude, you have done the impossible, you made the Aztek look good. The Sketch-Monkey is no joke. l have to say this. Me being the Car saleman from 2 decades ago, who sold the very first Pontiac Aztec in the world (and revealed how to sell it to the dealerships), you have completely blown my mind away with this modification. However, the greatest puzzle to me is how that double-face style, which began with the ugly Aztek, is now trending today. Even the new BMW 7 Series & new BMW X7 have them. I call those double-face styled vehicles, "Children of the Aztek." However, your modification kind of reminds me of the DeLorean.
Well done. Does it still come with a tent and cooler?
I'd drive that AMC wagon. Looks sweet.
The sports car redesign came out great. It's really unique and cool-looking.
Nice, but Pontiac already gave us this with the Vibe 🤘🏻😁
Georgie was doing commercials for the Eagle Wagon before meeting Pennywise. Interesting
Fun fact: The Pontiac Aztek was designed by the chief designer for the C7 Corvette

~ You want to know what went on at the management level that allowed GM to release the Pontiac Aztek? You probably have heard the stories of how they forced Pontiac to use their minivan platform for the Aztek, and not an SUV platform, but it goes beyond that. ~ GM had been losing market share for decades and decided they need some 'fresh blood'. So instead of promoting the next batch of upper mangers from within the company they went way outside their boundaries and hired a bunch of former executives from Proctor and Gamble. Yes, they literally hired a bunch of ‘soap salesmen’. (An old-timey derogatory term for scam artists, much like ‘snake oil salesmen’) Automotive journalists from around the world chastised GM for such a stupid move. One even wrote that, “Their idea of marketing is slapping an orange sticker on the side of the box with the words ‘NOW CONTAINS LANOLIN!’” Ron Zarella was from Bosch and Lomb; an optical company that also makes contact lens cleaner (so he qualifies as a ‘soap salesman’), and was the head of North American Operations. He even admitted, as he left GM, that he, “…never knew how important a car’s design was to the automotive business.” Then… WHAT THE HELL WAS HE DOING BEING AN EXECUTIVE IN A CAR COMPANY? The board of directors should have fired him the moment they found out that he lied about graduating with a business degree from Brown University. ~ So these ‘soap salesmen’ wanted the Aztek to be dynamic and ‘eye catching’. Be careful what you wish for. It was rumored that Wayne Cherry, the head of GM Design, didn’t officially ‘sign off’ on the final design; meaning that he never officially approved it. When asked about the Aztek he responds, “We gave (Pontiac executives) what they wanted.” To get a further idea about the tastelessness of the ‘soap salesmen’ decision makers look at the Saturn designs. They were to be inspired by the Apple computer products of the day; very soft and user friendly, but wound up looking like ill-proportioned blobs. Take a close look at the headlight on the Saturn L. It looks like a dog barfed, they chrome plated the wad of goo, and installed that as the headlight. ~ Epiloge: Ron Zarella was hired back at Bosch and Lomb where they soon discovered that he lied on his resume. They punished him by (get this) NOT giving him a million dollar bonus that year. Where can I go and lie on my resume to get an executive job, then proceed to do a crappy job at it, but still not get fired?
Looks spectacular! Thank you for the video
Looks like a DeLorean had unprotected relations with a Porsche and was adopted by Pontiac.
Honestly, I would buy that.

Just imagine, a sports car with a tent. That's what an Aztec sports car should have.
Walter drove it so it must be cool
Great job! Challenge was successfully completed.

agreed, I honestly don't hate it that much. it's just a bit weird lol
If only Prius could be made worse.... Pontiac: Hold my cigarette....
My Aunt had an AMC wagon and I loved it!!
To be quite honest. I think that GM took the Aztec design and stretched it, then put a small truck bed on it. Just to come up with the Avalanche truck/suv.
What software does he use? I want it.
Fun challenge for u! Predict the c9 corvette design
Mr White is going to be upset and toss another pizza up on the roof
Putting the AMC Eagle Wagon on an ugly car list is a CRIME
A sleek sporty aztec is cool but I think you missed the opportunity to make it look like it has gullwing doors, since the back of the car and the windows look like the windows and back of a DeLorean. Either way, its pretty cool.
This new design looks hella a lot better
Also what about the 08 honda element? The separation of plastic and metal was kinda gawdy
Broo!! This is what the new DeLorean should've looked like!!!
I loved seeing that AMC Wagon when I was a teen! Weird part about the Aztec is how many vehicles now has a similar front end design... Look at BMW, Jeep, Hyundai and a few others.
Your channel deserves more love
Final rendering looks like a DeLorean
Mitsubishi ECLIPSE CROSS is an updated version of the AZTEK. I loved my Aztek
You might not know Pontiac Rageous concept back in 1997 was very edgy design and was like sports wagon
When you first cut the height down it's literally a subi outback.
It would be cool to update the AMC Eagle
Breaking bad will make everyone love the aztek
The Aztek was outrageous when it came out in 2001. However, it would fit in very well with the crop of SUV/crossover vehicles produced between 2015-present.
The AMC Eagle Sport Wagon was the second coolest car in Back to the Future. It was the Subaru Outback of the 80s.
Dear SketchMonkey. Have ever heard of the mid80s concept car MG EX-E?
You absolutely knocked it out of the park. Proportion always does aloy
You killed this transformation!
Looks like an early 2000’s Fiero!
I bet when this baby hits 88 mph you're gonna see some serious shit lol
You could also try doing something different with the 1961 Citroën Ami 6.
2023 Pontiac Fiero SC LSX Turbo GM need to pick this up and run with it.
YOU KNOW IT WAS DESIGNED BY THE SAME GUY WHO DESIGNED THE NEW C8 CORVETTE! its exactly why the c8 has so many off putting proportions shapes and lines. you also have to realize we've gone thru a major period of Ugliness with the then coming of the cross over suv debut. so there are a ton of ugly cars today, but we've already become use to their looks. for instance, we look at small cars as being small but in fact theyre very very big, but with small interiors. they have to be big, because people are substantially bigger. remember when the first major large format SUV's came along? they looked HUGE!!! but when you see them today, they are no where near as big as the largest size vehicles produced today. So those older vehicles that were deemed ugly doesn't look so ugly to us today because we're already use to our modern ugly vehicles that we simply warmed up to. The new C8 is an ugly vehicle, its a Frankenstein design, lending generic elements from other supercars. stitched together in the worst possible way with lines and shapes that are meaningless to one another. And worst of all, its a dated design language, meaning this very new mid engine car already looks decades old.
basically a Honda CR-X my only issues with this design is that the roof isn't flat and the front bumper looks incomplete
The little boy was happy until his balloon went down that drain. You really have to look up the UK Ford Scorpio frog eye from the 90's. That's another facelift challenge for you. It brought an end to Ford's big executive cars forever.
Damn Bem this is nice even better than the last Aztec makeover you did but the Aztec grill just destroys the design you should slap a Bonneville front end on it👍🏿
The AMC Eagle Wagon was an awesome car. 4WD, nice to drive, and a definite precursor to today's SUV's.
I didn't like it before Breaking Bad, but since then I love it. It's just perfet choice for WW. Also I would like to see you redesign it into modern querky crossover (I don't like them)
this is proof that ride height will make or break a vehicle’s aesthetics. NOTHING looks good at stock height or heightened but everything looks better lowered.
You never heard of AMC Eagle (versions) before? Bruh...
It is Front-Wheel-Drive, it can only look like it is angry. That is like a tea-cup anything trying to be a guard dog, it just doesn't work. The ugliest one? The Nissan Juke? The AMC Eagle. This is a Four door Jeep Station Wagon with Four-Wheel-Drive, (Rear-Wheel-Drive with a Jeep Drivetrain. This is the proto-type for all true SUV including the OG SUV First Jeep Grand-Cherokee, it was never intended to be anything but slightly ugly so you wouldn't mind playing with it.) There is a Blue Tuner that you have to see on Car Throttle. The Finished product is badass. It is a cross between The First Celica/Supra, Porsche 928 vibes, and if it were Rear-Wheel-Drive with the nose squared off enough would be a very good Fourth-Gen G.T.O. or a very good tribute to it.
I don't know people would say the same thing, but the subtitles look like it'd belong on a Shorts format. I think it's better to left it out and used the traditional captions.
This challenge is very important use a 1983 AMC concord and make it luxurious 😔
In EU we do not have Pontiac Aztec, but we have Fiat Multipla. Comparing Aztec to Multipla, i think i would prefer driving Aztec :D
I love it , ld drive that as a coupe (Pontiac Aztec Sports Coupe.... its gotta ring to it 👍) it looks great, lm impressed Sketch , though ld have it in burnt orange. It certainly looks more futuristic 👍
it reminds me of a honda crz hatchback kind of body look when you shrink it down
It's if an aztek and a delorean had a baby. Lol I actually like it 👍
As someone who owns 6 eagles 4 of them being wagons I'm appalled by that search result. Also please do an eagle wagon and or sx4
@marclangman4836
Жыл бұрын
In a world where the majority of vehicles are crossovers, I’m really surprised by that result to. The Eagle wagon was just way ahead of its time.
Looks like a delorean at the end for some reason
The eqgle wagon is awsome. Does not deserve the Haye. It's a 4x4 wagon. It was awsome.
Giving me Citroën XM vibes. I like it.
Front splitter 🤔 maybe a holden v8 front. They have the split bar too.
Oooh, a Pontiac Delorian!
I think Pontiac and Buick gonna look alike because It will feel luxurious and the suspension will feel so smooth and when you drive over the potholes you will never feel anything. Safety Is that a really nice security system so that no one come in will steal your car
this was unexpectedly cool.
So take a proper 4 door SUV & modify it into a 2 door SUV with some fancy rims and lowering the roof? 🤔
the redesign is just fuggin, badass
Kind of looks like a Delorean with out the gullwing. He should have tried the gullwing door s and see how it would look like.
Gotta say the aztek has actually grown on me over time. It ma seem busy and discordant at first but it's not too far off in the front end from what some companies are doing with the headlights today. And i actually find modern BMWs far more offense in the grill area. 😆 The new wheels on the edit really bother me though, especially the rears because they look far too big, they don't even feel like they fit in the wheel well.
90’S HINDA ACCORD PLEASE
It's an elongated Honda crx
Please redesign the 1974 Citroen DS Pallas
I love the aztec not for the design but because a certain someone had this car 😉
can you redesign Toyota MR-2 SW20, please?))
i remember back when Survivor debuted this car one season, like season 2 i think.. was part of a challenge reward if i remember right. anyway they presented the Azteks, and i was like, WTF is this!? was the most dreadful looking suv i'd ever seen! and left me thinking, why the hell would Pontiac make something like that, after having such a huge hit with other models like Grand Am, Gran Prix, The Firebird Trans Am and others.. Big Fail on their part
I would definitely like to buy this car
The rear looks somewhat like a DeLorean in my opinion.
The Aztec would fit with today s Autos. Ahead of it's time
What if Ferrari Testarossa was a Sedan or a SUV?
The redesign looks more like a DeLorean but instead of being built in the 80s it was built in the mid 2000s or very late 90s.
It works… for a 1970’s design
redesign the NEW BATMOBILE
Looks like you forgot to do the bottom of the front bumper
