So happy that Yu Yu hakusho getting so much recent attention from totally not mark, six and others! I watched HXH first as a kid, and I never watched Yu Yu hakusho till high school, and Yu Yu hakusho is EASILY togashi’s best work!

YuYu Hakusho is a hood classic for sure. Togashi is a permanent 🐐 in manga writing. YYH got the best squad. Yusuke: Determined and persistent Hiei: Badass and talented Kurama: Strategist and clutch up. Kuwabara: Underdog and moral support Hopefully this manga is in your top 5 or at least top 10 Six 🙏

Best part is they are all relative to each other powerwise so everyone has moments of importance. No side characters standing around being useless until it's time for them to die (Neji). It's a perfect story except for the ending being kind of rushed

Man YYH is such an underrated anime Fr, I love Dragon Ball but personally I love YYH more than DB, the characters, character development, the series awareness of “beat one strong bad guy, another one pops up” and The Dark Tournament arc made this series my favorite. While The Drak Tournament arc was great, my favorite was The Chapter Black arc, that arc was deep af with Sensui having multiple personality disorder, Yusuke dying “again” and the revelation that he was actually a demon was just perfect *chef’s kiss*

also Yusuke being a demon was foreshadowed narratively instead of literally. Like there's no actually hey this is a possibility that could happen, but there's a lot of parallels between him, Togoro, and the themes of the chapter black arc that make it make sense imo. I'm new to the series though and as of yet need to finish the last arc, but this anime is so darn good and I've loved every second of it.

Yuyu will always be a top 5 shonen for me. I recommend checking out the anime version of Three Kings, Six, as they were able to expand on the story a bit in places where the manga fell short.

Hey...this isn't AoT! Finally! Yes, Yu Yu Hakusho! That's Bleach's Ancestor right there and I couldn't be more proud! 😤 I still remember and am waiting for the Fullbring video which I hope you realize is more similar to Chapter Black than anything, so I'm sure your thoughts will be positive. I'm actually thinking now how Ginjo and Geto are somewhat similar. About as much as Geto and Sensui. Not entirely, but they all have inversions of perception for the sides they're fighting for. I myself am at Demon World in the anime... -You being a Hakari fan explains some things.-

Hiei vs Bui is probably my favorite fight in the Dark Tournament.

Watching this makes me wanna watch Yu Yu Hakusho again. And I literally just watched it for a second time. I’m rewatching OG Dragon Ball. Can’t wait until i get to the 23rd Tournament so I can compare.

Watching yu yu hakusho loving it so far

It’s my favourite Shonen series of all time, I’ve been on a mission on collecting the manga I have 5 to go but the only issue is that it’s been out of stock. Hopefully they’ll come back soon.

Binged the anime during the pandemic and it has slowly become my all time favorite. Currently saving to get Hiei’s dragon tattoo on my arm🥲

YuYu Hakusho music in the anime is PERFECT All the endings are fire 🔥 and THE #1 OPENING OF THE WORLD is perfect

Hiei v Bui in the anime is easily my favorite fight. It is so fucking hype. Everyone I've shown YYH to gets hyped from the dragon.

Even though HxH is probably objectively the better manga, I still personally enjoy YYH more, for its characters (the squad is seriously goated) and emotional beats, especially in the Dark Tournament. Also Smile Bomb fucking slaps

Bui is also voiced by the person who voices Broly in the Dub and how they fight and act are very similar in the anime.

That’s why togashi is my number one mangaka 2 back to back banger mangas with amazing animes for bothe h x h and yu yu

People tend to downplay hakusho in vs matchups. I remember yusuke being a threat to all of spirit world which holds the river Styx and limbo, heaven and hell. Feel like you could argue universal. Just my opinion tho.

The Ending wasn't rushed because of his sickness, that happened during HxH. It was due to Togashi STARTING on Hxh around that time, and him not wanting to do 2 series at once.

I would've highly recommended you to have watched the anime it does a lot better with the final arc, plus the music and dub acting is superb to me. But the manga is still really good and Yusuke one of the best shonen MCs to exist not to mention Hiei, Kuwabara, Genkai, Kurama and others are awesome characters especially Hiei that's my guy also Chapter Black my favourite arc.

I remember my friend showing the series to me about 12 years ago, and really liked it, but I never got around to finishing it. I heard the ending was really rushed, and the series ended on a sour note. I’ve debated whether I should take the time to watch/read it all the way through.

Make sure you watch the anime because togashi got more content into it. You would have do a reread for the context of the bui fight there was meaning in sparing him etc.

Honest opinion: Yusuke is the greatest Shonen protagonist of all time. Seeing his progress from a high school foul mouth delinquent to somebody who matured through fighting to the point of not even having to fight anymore, choosing instead to have a wife and happy life.

0:20 Nah, Yusuke was based for that. That joke is probably what endeared me to Yusuke and convinced me to keep watching the anime (I was starting to fall off by that point). I don't get how you could say its outdated. Perverted? Sure. But its Japan, most of their humor is perverted

The dub of this show gets stupid at times, but it's a really fun watch.

Personally I definitely recommend it and a lot of other people into shonen would as well but you might as well get the actual blu ray/dvd if possible.

@@Personarose Thank you for replying. I ended up taking a chance, $20 for all 4 seasons. Not a bad deal at all. I’m a dozen episodes deep and really like it. Good writing and the characters are really fun. What would be the advantage of the physical copies?

personally my top favourite characters are: 1- Mukuro 2- Sensui Shinobu 3- Sakyo 4- Keiko Yukimura 5- Hiei my favourite arcs from most to least are: [AMAZING AREA] 1- Chapter Black (97% perfect) 2- Yusuke's Ordeal (90% perfect) 3- Rescue Yukina (89% perfect) [FLAWED BUT AMAZING AREA] 4- Epilogue (70% perfect) 5- Three Kings (65% perfect) 6- Dark Tournament (60% perfect [since this is controversial, to explain why: I love all the character stuff, but all the fights are a bother; I don't like tournaments. So, if you cut out all the needless figts, it'd go up to the 90s in its perfection percentage, but it's only fair that the stuff that makes it drag naturally causes it to lose worth. just because theres 'peak' in the arc, doesn't mean the 'unpeak' gets excused. I put Three Kings so low, and I love that arc more than most, so you can't say I was unfair, lol]) [LOWER END AREA] 7- Genkai Tournament (65% perfect) 8- Three Cursed Artifacts (30% perfect) 9- Saint Beast (15% perfect)

4:52 doesn’t the statement that nothing about Genkai being a woman matters in the story make it kind of a pointless difference from other Shonens though? I know there’s a lot of complaint about identity politics and some of it is well founded but if highlighting any aspects of her identity as a woman is annoying then why even have female characters? For the record I think Izumi in FMA is a great example of a female mentor character who highlights her as a woman without it being the only thing that defines her. All that being said I do love Genkai as a character and I do think she plays a mother role to Yusuke whose own mother doesn’t really fit the bill.

Yoshihiro Togashi wanted to end the series by rushing through the Demon Tournament.
