Coincidentally, The Golden Couple was also the first book I read this year, too. And I agree with your assessment. It was a good read, but nothing special. And, I thought, despite the twists, sort of predictable.

I picked up Beartown because of your last video talking about it and I'm 300 pages in - it will be the first fiction novel I have finished since high school (High school made me hate reading), so thank you for that! The book is amazing. Definitely a tough read, but as someone who is from a small rural Australian town, it actually hits pretty hard for me - especially since we also have the divide in wealth based on where you live (certain area of our town would be considered "The Hollows" for instance).

I just read the final book “We’ll always have summer”while on vacation in nc where they are filming the third season of SITP. It added so much reading the book where it was being filmed ❤

Omg that sounds like a DREAM!! Would love to go there!
I read Addie Larue based on your original recommendation and loved it! I'll have to check out a few more of your favourites. My fav trilogy this year was the Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee (Jade City, Jade War, Jade Legacy). Phantasy/SciFi. The world building is incredible, and the characters were great, genuine heartbreaking moments and lots of action. I was genuinely sad when I finished it.

Let me know what you think!!
As you enjoyed Before You Knew My Name you might also like Bright Young Women. It fictionalises the events and lives of several women who were impacted by a well-known American serial killer. The book never mentions the killer's name and instead focuses on the women, to counteract society's tendency to glorify serial killers and forget the victims. It was a tough read (triggers should be checked) but incredibly interesting and poignant.

Oh, babe, I just realized I didn't tell you! If you like competition stories, you might like the duology All of Us Villains and All of Our Demise. They're not perfect or anything, I gave them 4⭐ but I really enjoyed the magic system and the competition and one thing at the end really surprised me 😊

HIGHLY recommend the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson! Lots of magic (that's almost scientific?) with beautiful and detailed world building, lots of politics, and romance. If you want something with less politics, more romance and fantasty-- Tress of the Emerald Sea also by him!

Have you read Dear Mrs. Bird yet? I think you might like it. It's an easy and light read and the stories are cute and funny, but also very touching and heartbreaking at times. The audio book was very engaging and well done! There are 3 books in the current chronicle. "A charming, irresistible debut novel set in London during World War II about an adventurous young woman who becomes a secret advice columnist."

This series I'm about to recommend was from SOOO long ago - BUT! - I thought that MAYBE you didn't know about it. First, I'll tell you this: the writing in this is absolutely *BREATHTAKING* !! The descriptive words were SO *YUMMY* and as though you were actually *THERE* !! Anyway, it's the "Beautiful Creatures" series (and ALL of the books were solid!) P.S. ~ The movie was kinda garbage after you've been immersed in the glittery, dark, all-consuming and beautiful *WORDS* !! (Okay. I'm a bit weird. Sorry! lol)

@@scrivspo Because of you, I ordered - and already FINISHED - the book "The Dictionary of Lost Words". WOW! WOW! WOW! What a journey!! I couldn't stop listening!! (My neck decided to fall apart in 2014 so I can't read anymore! Pfft! I've been an avid reader for my WHOLE life, so it was quite an adjustment LISTENING to books. You definitely have to pay more attention cuz... sometimes my brain wants to wander. LOL!) But! Not for this book! I LOVED IT! Thanks for the recs! Also, I've saved a LARGE amount of the books you rated highly. :) It seems as tho' we like the same stuff... ❤❤❤ Also, I tried EVERY position to read. I bought EVERY thing I could think of to make my neck NOT feel like it's going to break in half (and then hurts for DAYS after only a couple of hours reading). Truly a sad day when I realized I couldn't hold - or SMELL (told you I was weird! lol) - any more books. :(
Gurl this is motivating me to read more so far I have finished 1 book this year...however bought lets say a few more books. Also why was I surpriced that the first books author had a finnish lastname...had a google but she herself wasn't actually form finland rather one of her parents. Anyways loved the video as always ❤❤❤
