That underrated fantasy books video is my favorite one of yours as well! It opened the door to so many other creators. I love tags like this too. Makes me reach for books that I might have overlooked or dismissed.

I am new into fantasy books so your channel has helped me start to explore this new genre of reading! I read A Darker Side of Magic by VE Schwab and I absolutely loved it!! I couldn’t put it down. I also just finished Yumi And The Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson which I liked and thought was really interesting but probably don’t need to read again in my opinion. Look forward to reading second book in Shades of Magic series and also going to start the Liveship Traders series soon! Thank you!

I finally read (based on your continued recommendation) Guns of the Dawn. OMG it was AMAZING, only 2 downsides is that I'll never be able to read it again for the first time. And I'm now in a reading slump ugh. THANK YOU for the wonderful recommendation ❤

Omg YES this is so fulfilling! Thank you for letting me know!!
Best series I've read this year is The Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. Great fun characters and well crafted stories. 👍
I’ve read 8 books. My favorite so far is probably Jade Legacy though Assassin’s Quest is close behind. If I had to pick least favorite, Reaper Man. I still enjoyed it but didn’t hit as Mort or Guards Guards. Looking forward to starting Mistborn, reading Dark Matter after I finish the Faithful and the Fallen this month!

Finished Mort and Guards Guards recently, sad to hear about Reaper Man but I'll get there soon. I also read Assassin's Quest this year and thought it was great, but Ship of Magic (the next one) blew it out of the water, pun intended.

Loving your list! Hopefully you’ll enjoy Mistborn!!
Nothing proves how quickly the year sped by than the fact that I kept being surprised by your picks because I thought you'd read most of them last year! I really want to try The Tainted Cup, but this has been a neutral year for me so far, no new favorites but no books I disliked. Hoping for some good surprises in the second half 🤞

I actually believe The Tainted Cup is going to be a 4 stars for you! Very solid and great! I kept thinking it kind of similar to Spindle Manor in the likes of prose!
Me recuerdas el audio "More passion! More energy! More footwork!" qué energía madre mía, da gusto! Y me has convencido para leer Recursion (y otros muchos pero por alguno hay que empezar)! Y ya que estoy me suscribo, que necesito tus videos en mi vida jeje Ponte buena!

Best book of the year: The Book that Wouldn't Burn - finally started the series and I'm in love Worst book by far: The Magicians - I have literally never read a book that infuriated me more Also - the fact that Wheel of Time made both your best books and biggest disappointments is perfect description with my relationship with the series - absolutely incredible moments, but also super frustrating to read

Hahaha I am both so scared and excited about continuing with WOT 🥲
I'm feeling reflective right now, so let's see what answers I can come up with 😂 Also, I just finished A Day of Fallen Night earlier, and Isa, based on what I remember of your issues with the ending of Priory, I think you wouldn't enjoy this one any more, I'd say less if anything 🥲 But you can't know for sure unless you try it! - Best books: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet; The Miracles of the Namiya General Store; The Bone Shard Daughter - Best sequels: Dark Star Burning, Ash Falls White (my braincells were offline while reading though); Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands - New release I want to read: Of Jade and Dragons by Amber Chen (does that count? officially it's not out yet but I got a shipping notification today) - Exciting new release: The Last Dragon of the East by Katrina Kwan, though there's currently nothing I'm dying to get my hands on - Biggest disappointments: Guardians of Dawn: Zhara; Before the Coffee Gets Cold (wasn't really bad, but didn't live up to all the hype it got for me); Song of the Six Realms - Biggest surprise: The Bone Shard Daughter, I wish I hadn't let it rot on my TBR for 1.5 years - Favourite new author: nobody so far - Fictional crush: I don't remember if there were any - Favourite character: I think I have either attachment issues or memory problems, or both, but I loved Kizzy from Wayfarers (I hope that was her name, I'm so bad at remembering character names after finishing a book), OH AND MEPHI, WE LOVE MEPHI - Book that made me cry: The Miracles of the Namiya General Store - Books that made me happy: The Kamogawa Food Detectives; Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands - Most beautiful cover: Nan Chan by Tang Jiu Qing, it's a preorder so I don't know if that counts, but I've gotten barely any new books so far this year (yes I'm very proud of myself for that) - Books I need to read before the end of the year: Strange the Dreamer, Warbreaker (I'M SORRY)

So happy you also enjoyed The Tainted Cup!
From a purely fantasy perspective, my favourites have been The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin and Tehanu by Ursula K Le Guin. Disappointments were This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amar El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone and Hero of Ages by Sanderson. I liked them, but were elements that just weren't for me and I can fully appreciate why people love both of them.

I am patiently waiting for an affordable hardback set of "The Broken Earth" so I can re-read the whole series, this time in English. (Read a translation as I was new to SF - Fantasy in 2021.)

@@mariareadsssf I completely get that. I'm happy to go with paperbacks to be honest, as far less cumbersome, especially as I take my books everywhere...
Best book so far: Song of Silver, Flame like night. Worst book: House of Flame and Shadow. Biggest disappointment: Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow.
I'm currently at 102 books for the year and I'm struggling to pick 10 I loved, much less one for the year 😂 Worst for me is definitely John Gwynne's Faithful and the Fallen, I get the draw of Viking romanticization for most readers but there's nothing in there that appeals to me. The Warm Hands of Ghosts is one you really need to check out, it's an amazing historical fantasy! 100% agree about that cover of Amina Al-Sirafi, it's just gorgeous design for a brilliant book. Malazan isn't for everyone, if you're getting the vibe it won't be for you don't let it bother you if it doesn't work out!

You’ll love Malazan. It’s the only fantasy series I finished. It’s so good it ruined all other series for me. From Deadhouse Gates on I read them as they were released so a year or two between each book. So could I remember who everyone was or what they had done. No.But it didn’t spoil it fi me.

@@FunFantasyBooks hmmmmm maybe??? I enjoyed the first five a lot more than the last books! Have a very detailed review on my goodreads that’s non spoiler for whole series!
Biggest disappointment for me was This is How You Lose the Time War. People said not to look up anything about it and go in completely blind, so I did. Turns out its not some giant time traveling war epic, which I would have known if I hadnt been so intent on going in blind. Its not a bad book, just a disappointment for me. Best book I read is Piranesi, Going Postal, Demon in White or Ship of Magic, cant really decide which yet. Best sequel was Demon in White since i didnt care much for Suneater book 1 and book 2 had a good ending but was boring for the fiest half. But book 3 was brilliant from start to finish.

It was the opposite for me. Dragon Reborn was one of my least favorites of the series, and Shadow Rising is still my favorite. I liked book 4 because all the characters are really starting to come into their own. The romances haven't really been my favorite either in this series as well. Even the romance I thought was a good one has been making me roll my eyes recently. I still have hope for one, however, so fingers crossed! I just started book 7 Crown of Sword, and so far, I am liking it.
