It comes down to the server and how they operate, some servers nothing happens outside of events, whilst others have events but the focus is on charater building and creating rp aka doing dumb shit and hoping for the best, i never wanted to play it because i thought the same until my partner talked me into joining and i slid into a regiment where i was good mates with everyone and actually enjoyed the rp, even though sometimes the rp means writing a ten page document on some sus medical thing to force rp people into, it expands into greater more fun things. the server will only be as good as the mods/ems and those who play on them

I love how you can always tell an admin either fully memorizes the long list of server rules off the top of his head, or currently has a PDF file of all the rules open on a 2nd monitor.

Because doing either of those things would require them to make their own decisions, therefore having to make their own fun. If they RP as a stormtrooper and are told what to do/guarding a fuckin door for 8 hours, it gives them a false feeling of purpose and sense of usefulness. People who legitimately play RP games usually don’t have a job, don’t go to school, and have no real-world obligations, so playing on these servers makes them feel like they have some sort of duty
