Ranking MORE isometric NES games: Part 2 • I Ranked even MORE Iso...
Most NES games are either side-scrolling platformers with many that are vertical-scrolling games. There's only a handful of isometric games so I thought we'd cover all I could find and do a video on them and where I rank them based on how important the isometric view is.

I wish I kept my SEGA collection: SEGA Game Gear and SEGA Genius. All mint condition...and caring cases all branded by SEGA. All exercise sry that you could want..also in mint condition. About 4 controllers, 2 .....6 bouton SEGA, one with Turbo..., The rest 3 bouton SEGA, . Solid it back in the day for a PS2 and two PS2 games. Teklen 4, and Vertical Fighter 4. Ever since then I have been trying to regret all the games I had when I was a kid.
SOLSTICE!!! It pains me that you forgot to mention the absolutely stellar soundtrack by the legendary TIM FOLLIN! Also, If you love Solstice, check out Altered Space on gameboy, a seriously underrated and completely forgetten gem made by the same developer! Also, Monster Max was another isometric gameboy classic! I know there was at least one more isometric gameboy game, it's called Otto's Ottifanten, but i haven't gotten around to trying it out yet. Maybe that could be a future video for you: Isometric handheld games!
Another good isometric NES game was WWF WrestleMania Challenge!

Oh boy.....you mentioned Wrestling. Riggs loves it so much, he might just make a video about Wrestling games lol. Your right though. Awesome game.
Qberts fatal flaw on NES is that their is no highscore. If you didn't catch your score upon death then sorry, it's gone forever. With no score to chase, why even play
@JMFSpike
3 жыл бұрын
Another flaw in all Q*bert games is the isometric view itself. It makes the controls confusing and leads to many accidental deaths because you hit the wrong direction. You can try to tilt the controller to solve the problem, but it's too awkward and certainly doesn't help me any.

Been too long since a ranking video!! Love it.
Excellent. Keep up the great ranking vids of games by genre. It's a winning formula.
Happy to see these again thank you
Glad you love Solstice as much as I do! I really need to beat that this year. Failed to mention the ABSOLUTELY MINDBLOWING opening theme by Tim Follin though! Quite possibly the best composition on the system!

Ah wicked am going to Check out Snake Rattle n roll . I didn’t know about that one. Thanks John 😊👍🏼
Rare (before most of us even knew they were Rare) on the NES were greatness and yes! Snake Rattle N Roll is one of my favourite NES games!
One thing I liked about Snake Rattle & Roll, was, like Battletoads, there were warps in certain levels if you got there fast enough or completed certain conditions. For example, if you speed to the end of the first level as fast as possible, you can hit a warp that would take you really far into the game.
My cousin, sister, and I loved Snake Rattle & Roll, we'd always scream when the JAWS music started haha
Just what I needed thanks John!

8:50 my brother and I loved snake rattle and roll as kids. it was a great multiplayer game
Surprised you didn't mention that Snake Rattle and Roll was also two player coop! Such a fun game.
Great vid! Please include last ninja 2 in the follow up 👍
Snake Rattle n Roll was one of my favorite games as a kid. My brother and I used to play this constantly.
Snake Rattle & Roll looks really fun! i had heard of it, but never played it
Great video as always Master Riggs but i was expecting to see The Last Ninja in its horid glory
Im a simple man. I see new Riggs video... I watch it
Solstice - There were a ton of these isometric, one-screen-per-room type adventure games on the 8-bit computers. Most of the problems you mention, were common to pretty much all of them.
Captain Skyhawk and Snake, Rattle, ‘N Roll are my jam!
Leaving out Paperboy is criminal.
There should have been a special controller with a D-pad rotated 45 degrees for these kinds of games.
Many hours spent with my cousin on Snake, Rattle & Roll. One of my favorites.
I loved the way The Immortal looked, very Diabloesque. But the game is tougher than rocks! Great vid John, with the obvious missing, RC Pro-Am, Captain Skyhawk, and did I not see Paperboy?
Besides the ones mention below the only other NES games I could think of that I played that were isometric are: Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure Infiltrator (outside sneaking) Pictionary (Gameboard) Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Motorcycle chase)
You're missing the RC Pro Am titles, Paper Boy, Pac-Mania, Cobra Triangle... Loved The Immortal and Solstice, both great games.
Great idea for a video!
R.C. Pro Am and Cobra Triangle perhaps? I was going to say Captain Skyhawk, but ya really don't traverse the stages on the isometric land. Anyways, awesome video. I'd give Snake, Rattle n Roll an SSSSSssssss
I love Marble Madness so much. Played it like crazy when it came out on the NES and I still come back to it on a regular basis. Could not agree more on an "S" rating here. Subscribed :D
Snake Rattle and Roll it's such a fantastic game!
Marble Madness played great with the NES Max controller.
RC Pro Am and Cobra Triangle are a couple that should be in Part 2 of this list.
You should make a vid compiling all of the S games!
The Immortal game was always grabbed in the 'Video Power' game show. And, it was the most expensive game as well. $59.99 at Kay Bee Toys.
Also The last Ninja if I remember correctly for my video game researching days was very popular on the commodore 64 and that's where it won a bunch of it's awards and stuff and that kind of doubt it played very much different from the NES game because the NES was a more powerful system than the commodore 64.
Cool subject of the video!
When you got to Solstice, I was in agreement with you saying "Yes!." & Equinox is the SNES sequel actually by Sony, & think the fact Sony actually made a game on SNES is interesting. It was Solstice II in Japan. & that spike room with that guy is iconic for my Uncle Warren & I 🙂. It was tricky for us to go on the guys head with a platform without mis-aligning & falling on the spikes with that scream which is iconic too 😀
Great video. I don't if you know. Equinox is solstice 2 (Japanese name has solstice 2 in the name as well) the main character is shaddox's son and you have to save him.
Solstice and Equinox are spoken of a lot when it comes to discussing old classics or "hidden gems." People really love them, so it's kind of weird to me how there are only 2 games in the series, but I guess they must not have sold well.
NES rankings still missing are Asmik titles and 1st party Nintendo-published titles
@HiNRGboy

Jack The Giant Slayer! Japan only though
FYI, A couple of these games (Isolated Warrior, Zen) use cavalier projection rather than isometric projection.
I believe you forgot Captain Skyhawk. It is an isometric shooter that was on the NES. Not too bad of a game. One worth taking a look at.
One of my favorite ranking videos you've done John! Snake Rattle N Roll was actually my first NES game, and it's still in my top 10. Also totally agree on Solstice - I've gotten a ton of playtime out of that one over the years. Also I might have missed it, buy did you mention Captain Skyhawk? That's another one that I played a TON growing up. 😄
I have The Immortal on the Sega Genesis and I really like it.

Snake rattle and roll was also 2 player simutanous. It was awsome
solstice... thank you. ive been looking for it for like 28 years.
snake rattle and roll was my jam played it with my mom all the time
I looooved Snake Rattle n Roll back in the day
As a kid my parents bought me Snake Rattle & Roll out of a bargain bin and I ended up loving it.
DUDE! I absolutely LOVED Snake Rattle 'n Roll! Based only on my nostalgia for it, I'd give it an A.
Me and my buds loved to play snake rattle an roll when we were kids
Yes you missed a couple. - Captain Skyhawk and Super Offroad. But I'm guessing there are even more
I was hoping you could rank the Hi-Tech Expressions games
Huh....was not aware Q-Bert (...Q-Ernie, really. ...'cuz he's orange, not yellow! ha! ...'cept Q-Ernie doesn't roll off the tongue as easily...), however i played the Q-Crap out of it on ColecoVision. I remember that because the Coleco was a "It's for both of you!" X-mas present my dad had got for my sister and I. Played a TON of Mouse Trap, too. For those that may not know, Mouse Trap on the ColecoVision was basically Pac-Man, but you played the floating mouse head, collecting little cheese bits, while evading the four yellow cats by opening, closing, and sometimes boxing yourself in, different colored doors. But if you open one blue door, they all open! So you gotta be careful, 'cuz by opening a door, you might just release a trapped cat. Yah,.....damn man,....I turned 8 in November of that year. That'd be '86. CV was that year's big ticket holiday item. Thank you for the video, keep it up! Love to see more. Maybe a personal Top X favorite SNES games?
Solstice is one of more iconic soundtracks on the NES the music is fantastic on it for 8bit Nintendo
when solstice came out i feel like i was too young to really get into it, but i knew it was cool. i guess for me it was partly just that it was always only a matter of time before i took out solstice and just put in super mario or section-z or something that was more accessible.
Good video as usual buuuuut where’s GREMLINS 2?!!
It amazes me with how many videos I see on KZread in general, to find that everyone's EQ settings are so varied from one to another. I know it's also unexpected factors like tech compatibility for components and stuff and phone mics, etc. Here you you sound like you're in a tunnel behind the headphones, maybe extremely compressed? 🤔 ...I also may benefit from a headphone upgrade 😂
I loved Snake Rattle and Roll. I've gotten all the way up to the moon a few times, but just could never defeat the giant foot.
Light Crusader on the Genesis is my favorite isometric game.
Fresh vid!
I have put a copious amount of time into both Snake, Rattle 'N' Roll and Marble Madness. Both great, challenging games. Whereas I can beat Marble Madness on a regular basis now I still can't complete Snake, Rattle 'N' Roll. That second ice level is a complete bastard and requires Jedi reflexes.
Surprised Paperboy wasn't on the list being such a popular game in it's day
We loved Marble Madness as kids. Einhander was interesting...
I’m hoping to see reviews of Square games like Rad Racer 1 and 2, Final Fantasy. And of course Nintendo published titles like Super Mario series, StarTropics series, Metroid, etc
the developer is clever! Imagine making 3D collision in just less than 2KB memory
Isolated Warrior has a special place in my heart. Roller Games too. By the way you forgot Roller Games.
Snake rattle n roll is awesome but very difficult
