Hi Thomas, I’ve loved watching your content the last few years and can’t wait to see more! I can feel the overwhelming pressure and expectation you have put on yourself pouring through the screen in this video and while I’m a big believer in accountability and discipline…I would also say please don’t let KZread be that chore-like burden. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say if the video is a few days later than planned/expected then so be it. It’s always quality and insightful. I’ve got both guides and will be watching closely for more tips on teaching in Dubai as I apply for next August. Have a great summer!

Thanks Josh! This is what it became. I’ve always been my biggest critic which is great for improvement but also a challenge too. I remember COVID times I created content for the love of it and that’s what I hop to get back to.

Thank you for always sharing meaningful and helpful content, Thomas 👏🏼. You inspire a lot of people out there, including me, to take the leap and experience teaching abroad. I'm sorry to hear what you've gone through. It is only up from here onwards 👌🏼. Your community is here to support you. Don't strain yourself, or overthink the content you share. I am looking forward to what you will be creating next. 😁

Huge fan of your content (your videos on Dubai teaching really got me considering the move from the UK, which my partner and I will be doing next year!). Sounds like a well-considered plan you've made that offers security and the space to persue your creative content. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for this video. I’ve been teaching for 13 years (17 if you include training- eek) and I’m leaving next week. Unfortunately for me in the UK behaviour is the main reason, and lack of funding to support children with SEN. I thought I would always be a teacher, but it’s just too challenging now.

It’s a tough time in teaching for sure. I’m sure there’s been elements of what happens in UK schools that still happens in the UAE which influenced me too. Good luck in the future.

The NEU said recently that behaviour is lower down on the list of concerns. That is not what comments in the below the line articles in The Guardian are suggesting- it is mentioned more and more by disillusioned teachers. I lasted nearly thirty years in secondary until quite recently but wild horses would not drag me back to teaching. Last year just over 44,000 teachers of working age left for other jobs in the UK according to the Government's own figures. Next year it will be a similar number and again the year after. Behaviour, bullying of teachers from different quarters ( also now being mentioned more than in the past) and the relentless pressure to do more with less, are all major issues that are not being addressed. In 2019 a survey (the unions are good at putting surveys out confirming what is already known) said that over 60% of teachers had been bullied or witnessed it in the previous two years. An OFSTED report in 2014 found that in some secondary schools up to a day of learning each week is lost due to so-called 'low level' disruption- it will be worse now nearly a decade later. It is a disgrace that so many dedicated teachers who have worked so hard are being lost because of unacceptable conditions of service, including sustained pay cuts since 2010. I hope you succeed in whatever you do next.

Hi Thomas, I am happy to see you are not quitting teaching. I have been a teacher for over 10 years and love watching your teaching perspectives and learning new things from you. It seems every teacher I follow end up quitting teaching to focus on KZread, which sometimes makes me feel like teaching was not as important to them after all. I find it difficult sometimes to continue to follow teachers that quit teaching because in my opinion how can you continue to share fresh ideas without being in the classroom. That is my opinion. I do understand that life is always changing and new opportunities present themselves to us. But I'm glad to see a teacher and content creator like you feel that continue in the teaching mission is important. Thank you for taking the time to share your teaching experience. One thing that I loved about what you said is you took time to reflect. I feel that reflection is so important in life. Keep up the amazing job you are doing and don't stress too much about it. One day at a time.

Thanks for your support. I agree too. It can be hard to follow individual’s journeys when they don’t do the thing I followed them for. I love teaching. It is getting harder and harder each year.

Thomas, thank you so much for putting up this video- it’s always a great pleasure watching you. It’s my 2nd year of teaching in Abu Dhabi and I can totally relate to everything you’ve mentioned- the pressure is real 😅 Here comes the question) Do you see yourself staying/ teaching in Dubai for 10+ years?) Thanks in advance for the answer.

Do the head teachers also teach their own classes and is their work load much higher? I'm considering taking up an offer for a head of PE in a primary school in Dubai. I've never taught in Dubai so I'm not sure how the work load will be.

Hi, I'm planning on arriving in Dubai in the next few weeks. I'll be arriving on a freelance visa. Do you have an idea how long it will take me to find a job as an English teacher (private or government school). I'm from the UK and I have bachelor's degree in English and a CELTA. And thanks for your content. Very beneficial. 👍🏼
