I did the same thing too, people think carpentry is all physicality but it can be mentally and emotionally challenging too. I don’t earn as much as I use to but I’ve never been more happier. Money doesn’t buy happiness

Well done for admitting that you had a challenge in your prior job that you mentally didn’t agree with anymore and made the change to a safer and happier environment mate. I know exactly how you feel mate, 10 years of plumbing, for a few months I really was starting to get over it then one day I woke up, went to work and just couldn’t mentally think for the day and ended up having a break down and from then on I never wanted to be a plumber again, a change is definitely what’s needed sometimes.

Around this time last year, I also slid down a roof and only the gutter saved me. I also quit my job and I'm much happier now. I wish you all the best working at MITS Alloy. If I walk into MITS one day, I hope I get to talk to you. Level headed and a great personality. I think you are honest and you will be a great asset for the company.

Hi , Glazier shopfitter then carpentry over 25 years then hospitality, then service tech in mobility/disability for 11 years. We all get broken. last two years with "covid" in health care takes it toll. some times we don't land on our feet. for you, made the right choice. Good luck.

Hi, stumbled on your video. Nice, I can fill the pain I started my apprenticeship in the 1986 as Carpenter then Builder 2005. Still going but am filling the pain form the last 35 year. I am finding it hard to leave the only thing I know ? What to do next ? 52 years old now I will finish off my latest apprentice 18 month still to go for him. When wind down & finish up I think ? Don't underestimate the business and project knowledge you've got from such a solid stint mate. You can turn your hand to anything if you can handle a short bit of lower cashflow and putting in the hours to learn online or from others that might be half your age, and you'll bring something unique that they won't have. Sit down one night and list off the broad things you do in a month, you'll find a bunch of transferable skills.

Nah I didn’t mate, I lived in Cessnock for 4 years but used to do a heap of work around the Branxton area when I was building granny flats

Good that you’ve decided to move on to something new. But in all seriousness, your near tragic incidents is why they make fall arresters. Domestic construction sites are a disaster waiting to happen. The activity on those sites just will not fly in large construction

Definitely pushed it to my limit with that one.... it was a case of the old she’ll be right and get a few sheets down but was a bit tooo steep for my liking to start with... I agree with you on fall arrest systems but wearing any sort of harness while sheeting a resi roof is actually more dangerous than not wearing one (in my opinion, and I’m sure the majority of chippys out there would agree) even with roof rail on I would have been going off anyway as there’s no way I’d be grabbing onto anything incase I grabbed the wrong thing and tear myself open, I’d rather break a leg or arm
