I pushed My Lathe To The Limit

Ойын-сауық

Welcome to today's woodturning video.
These Woodturning videos are not tutorials. Please take care when woodworking or Woodturning and do not use my Woodturning as an example of safe woodworking practice. What works for me may not work for you.
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn items into decorative finished pieces.
When woodturning a piece like I find it important to nibble away at it until I see what shape the wood wants to be, this is what is so enjoyable about woodturning.
If you find these videos entertaining l'd appreciate you like, share and subscribe.
Thanks for watching.

That would have maxed out my lathe. I would have probably started with a faceplate instead of a spur drive. Glad your spur worked so well. Interesting light shade, for sure

Thanks buddy. A face plate will remove all freedoms you have to effect and amend the axis rotation of the piece as you work it down to round. All pieces should be started on a spur drive really.. especially is they have voids and natural edges otherwise you have to get the alignment bang on when you cut the face, no one can accurately predict the exact alignment of voids and edges in the final piece. You should try it. You’ll find your have way more control over the finished form. 👍🏻

@@JackMackWoodturning I use the spur drive quite often. It's just on some of the larger pieces of hard oak I find the spur I have doesn't want to grab the wood so, if the piece is heavy, I find the faceplate keeps it from stopping the wood while roughing. As I get more experienced maybe I will get better at the spur drive.
