My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.
Enjoy browsing!

I do as well, although I can see why it was done in the traditional way as well. Some people have a hard time getting rid of stuff so they have to take it slowly. Then there's people like us that need to hit the ground running and start off big because our motivation will tank before the time is up lol. I think the only thing that matters is that you do in the end get rid of what you personally don't need and anything that is still in great, useable condition can be donated or sold for others to use.

I thought it would mean getting the hardest out of the way first but really it makes it harder for a beginner to have to constantly have to find close to 30 items and the main reason I’m doing it the right way round is because you’re meant to get better over time in terms of releasing attachments so you’re meant to start easy and work your way up as you get better is my understanding of the challenge.

One idea could be to write down 1-30 and choose a number of items for every day, which you then cross out on the paper. You can choose the number according to how much time or energy you have on the day.

I’m married with two daughters in a 1500 sq foot house. It’s amazing how much “stuff” we have and don’t need. Great idea in doing the game in reverse, seems more logical actually, getting rid of the large obvious clutter and working down to the fewer, more difficult decisions.

For me I was new to minimalism so at the start I didn't have that much I thought I wanted to get rid of but by the end I released things I didn't actually need and I had gotten a lot more comfortable with getting rid of stuff so I think this challenge works either way depending on how new you are to this kind of thing.

I love that you take into account how you dispose of all of the items. Minimalism doesn’t really work if in the end, it’s on the expense of the environment and other people again. That only became apparent to me once I started decluttering. Which also means buying less for me, so there can be an „end“ to getting to a more minimalist state. It’s a really smart thing to do it in reverse!

That's often why I put off decluttering actually, I try to research if there's a recycling programme for something usually unrecycled (like makeup products). Wish more stuff was recycled really! And unfortunately donating to charity is very difficult here in the UK because of lockdown :/

Viktoriya Ball I agree, it’s the same in Germany. And since I know that donating isn’t always the best option either (shipping stuff to Non-Eu countries for profit etc), there is really no other option in the long run to just don’t buy things I’ll have to dispose of later. But awareness is most important and a great start, I think

Absolutely! There are so many options what to do with the things you don't need anymore. Throwing away things only works if they are actually broken, otherwise there are better options :)

I'd love to see a video on like.. storage? Because you always talk about having a small apartment but you also have pet rats and have sewing equipment which already takes up a lot of space usually. I'm so intrigued because I'm definitely more of a hoarder than a minimalist!

I work in optometry and donations of unneeded glasses are always appreciated! Many clinics actually have donation bins inside now, or you can drop them at the front desk of many offices and they will donate them to programs that sort and dispense them to those in need. I'm in Canada but I imagine it's a fairly universal thing. Thanks for doing that! ☺️

I've found this really motivating.... As I do every time I watch a minimalism video lol. I'm the same, I can't do 'daily' minimalism, I have to do a huge purge in one sitting and get it all out. And I can't wait around for someone to pick up gifted items etc. or it will stay in the house. I just have to give it up and be done with it!

I needed to get rid of massive amounts of quilt fabric, but the hardest part was finding a home for it. I could not find charities to take it. Other quilters wanted to go through it and take some- not enough gone. If it sits here, the temptation is to keep sneaking it back into the stash. I finally found someone to take it all and I had it sorted in 1-1/2 days. I allowed myself to keep one in four items. The psychological effect of keeping, rather then getting rid of, works well for me.

Yes, so happy for you! My minimalism journey started about a year and a half ago and it does feel super nice to know where everything is, what I love about it is that feeling of only having what you love, use and need. No need for more, no need to take care of things all the time. It's different for everyone, I suppose, there is no "right way" really. Still, minimalism taught me so much and it made my life much better. Take care during these strange times. x P.S.: I know this might sound kind of weird, but ever since you got engaged (or at least around that time), I feel like you've become more confident and I absolutely love that!

Maybe it takes less time to do this the "right way" round, starting with 1. Then you can easily pick things that are near by at the beginning and then slowly dig deeper into all the drawers and stuff. And then you may find corners with hidden stuff and think "oh yes, I could take a look at this during the next days". Maybe like this? Just a thought. :)

I know I'm far behind on watching this video, but I wanted to say GREAT JOB! To already be decluttered, in maintenance mode, and still finding 250 items to declutter is incredible! I think you won when you realized that you weren't willing to part with things for the sake of this challenge. I think it's just a great way to get you to really think about what you have and if it is necessary to keep. I'd love to do this challenge, but I know it would consist of the paper pile I plan to scan and discard of because there isn't really anything else to declutter. I declutter all the time with one big purge at some point in the year. I feel like having a fluid relationship with things coming in and out make it easier me to stay on top of what I own. With that being said and as crazy as this sounds, I wish I had enough things to declutter just to go through this challenge!

Don't feel bad for not having much to declutter. That means you're on the right path. MuchelleB has a great video series on decluttering. She's the one who started my decluttering journey 4 years ago. She tackles specific categories every day for 30 days and it's very inspiring. That way you can also skip a day and just keep going at your own pace. It took me 2 days for each decluttering day in the challenge, but I got there in the end 😊

I am someone who is not unterstanding this whole minimalism trend and i guess i never will. ( maybe i am traumatized because i grew upp with a mother that just went into my room and threw away stuff without asking me!! she still does but no longer my possesions :)....) i buy mindfully and i love all my possesions i chose to own ( even though they might be a lot in the eyes of some ppl) and to which a have a relationship and that contain memories . i declutter regularly when it comes to things that can be seen as trash like empty boxes, piles of paper or broken things that cannot be repaired. i throw away packaging right after i bought something for example but all the other stuff is no problem for me. but i like having the possibilitiy to choose between like 10 handbags in different sizes instead of just having one or to have enaugh clothes for every occasion and weather and i like to buy items in stock. but i like the idea of not just throwing away but giving away to ppl who can use it.( i fought with my mom so many times over to give away clothing to the charity and not just tossing it in the bin!!) it's way better than just throwing away. and if there is nothing to throw away, then it's ok i guess, someone shouldn't feel bad about admitting that he likes to own things or needs things in his life. i even think being an extreme minimalist is just as much a condition as being a hoarder or to have OCD.

We're on a very long decluttering journey, and it's tough to stay motivated. While this may not be great for people at the end of decluttering, I think this is great for people in the middle of it or who are restarting after taking a pause for a while, and still have a lot to go through. Thanks for this! I also have a hard time sticking to doing stuff like this every single day, but I like what you did with this - starting with getting rid of lots of stuff, and then if you skip days, getting rid of big groups of things. I know that part of this is training yourself to work on decluttering daily, but I am thinking that for me it might work better to say I'm going to get rid of 500 things in a month, and then divide that into weeks, and then I have the whole week to tackle that number of things, each week. Good inspiration!

I need to make time to do this. I've been putting off a full declutter for about 4 months. One thing that has been holding me back has been feeling bad about sending things to the landfill. My community does have a recycling program and I always try to think of a way to repurpose things and find them new homes when possible before tossing them in the trash. But I need to just get it done. I am now more mindful of the items I do bring into my home so I haven't been accumulating a large number of new items, but I have a lot of things that have been sitting around for a very long time without being used so it's time to part ways with them. This video definitely inspired me to get it done now and not put off any longer.

I haven't ever done any minimalism games. But I have been decluttering for over 20 years. It's just an ongoing thing through different seasons of life - when I began I had kids at home between 5 and 15, a huge house with all the stuff that had accumulated up to that point. As each child grew up and out of toys, into teenagerhood, finished school, moved away from home, we moved house twice, lost relatives and inherited many beautiful things to treasure... each time necessitated a reassessment of our belongings, decisions to make, preferences to implement and so on as our lives changed and our personalities crystalised. And I believe it won't stop! We are now (fairly young) grandparents living in a small house and always assessing which of our hobbies will stay with us going forward, what can be passed on to the next generations or what has had its day... Hopefully, when we pass, our family will only have a curated amount of stuff and heirlooms to deal with and not have to feel daunted at the task!

About 2 years ago when the konmari method was huge, I did that with clothes and the bathroom and that's as far as I got. It also takes a lot out of you when you find yourself faced with nostalgic items or stuff you had forgotten but still like when you see it. I've been decluttering over many years with no set time frame outside of "spring cleaning". I think I would take on this challenge but modified. I'd start in sections like my art stuff, then jewelry, then office or school stuff, etc. Congrats on all the stuff you got rid of, That's also a good way to start the year, just a bit lighter.

Ooh I agree I love this challenge and I love the idea of doing it in reverse. Also it's definitely not something you can do when you've already got decluttering as a habit - having packed up and moved abroad a few times, I could never find that many things to get rid of for a challenge! However, I think it's great to do a countdown for anything you're preparing for: even like a week in advance of a trip or a work presentation what have you, do 7 things on day one to prep, 6 things on day 2, etc. I'm going to apply this principle in my life everywhere I can 😊

I don't think I could ever play this game for exactly the same reasons! I'm really feeling like I need a declutter, but I can't go to any charity shops to get rid of any of it! It's been over a year now since they were open where I am. I figure I'm better off leaving the declutterable items in the storage where they are instead of having an even bigger donation pile sitting in my corner with nowhere to go!

I'm sure someone more minimalist-orientated than me would definitely find things lol, but I'm kind of at a point where everything in my apartment I like. The reason for starting with one and working your way up is to allow you to grow your declutter muscle for lack of a better word. People new to genuine decluttering can find it hard particularly when they get to sentimental items, you build momentum by gradually increasing your numbers. Much more sensible. I am doing the challenge now aswell and really finding it so beneficial. 🥰

I played this game a few years ago. I started with 1 item, a guitar I never ended up playing because my hands were too small to go around the neck. Every day I would plan ahead what area I was going to tackle next. I knew there was a pile of comic books I wanted to get rid of (gave them to a cousin once removed) and that was day 30 for me already planned. I kept track of it through photos. The upside of doing it the right way around is that you have time to plan ahead. By the end of it, I still had a few areas I hadn't gotten round to, because one or two sections were way more abundant than I even expected. (3 wuppies, 7 beesies, that's day 10 for you. XD) I do think I could do this challenge again, but it would be a lot harder without my partner's help in providing items as well.

I should declutter but I am one of those people who find it hard to let go of sentimental items or worse, gifts that people have given me. Yes the thing you said about it being hard to do this every day - also I don't understand doing just a few items a day. Like if you open a drawer and see five things you don't need but you're on day two, are you going to take a couple things out and then leave the others in there until tomorrow??? Just seems inefficient haha. But I do think if I was trying to hit a specific number I'd be more likely to find those tiny items like random packaging or paper items, vs in my normal decluttering when I focus on bigger items.

  • @Emily-pk9bd
    @Emily-pk9bd3 жыл бұрын

I think you might have been more successful if you had started as the game was intended. If you start small, 1 item, 2 items, 3, 4, etc, you give yourself longer to think about, and go through the process of letting go. Some things you might not want to let go of one day, you will process and let go of it a few days later. You have more time to think ahead and there is far less pressure. That was how it worked for me anyway. I would love to see a video of you doing that way just to see what happens and how that would work for you.

I've never done this type of challenge, and since I moved countries in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020 and since moving out from my parents' home I stayed a maximum of 9 months in the same flat, I am used to living with the content of a suitcase or 2, and regularly getting rid of everything that does not fit in there! However, every time I got back to my home country, I do get rid of sooooo many things I hold onto without knowing why, it's a very satisfying feeling! Don't think I could reach 500 items tho, that seems like way too much!

this is like 2 years later, but I'm actually in the middle of doing this challenge - also backwards. I've been looking for inspiration and came upon this video. This is very interesting and encouraging for me. Even though I've just completed day "17" it's been a struggle since like "25". One day a decluttered 20+ bobby pins and counted all those as separate items. I don't know if it's cheating and I don't care lol I'm going to continue for a bit more because I know I still have stuff that could go. Like, I have some hair bands, even though the last time I had hair long enough to require bands was like 5 years ago and I don't intend to ever go back to long hair. But I'm still keeping them just in case xD

I'm in the same boat of having done a lot of declutters in a few short years, so I would be hard-pressed to find a whole lot of stuff that I would really want to get rid of items (and my boyfriend and I also have a small apartment). something I want to try this year is saving all my skincare, hair care, body care and makeup empties in a basket or box so I can do a nice big recycling haul and get a tangible idea of how much stuff I can use up in a year (haven't really told my boyfriend I'm going to be hoarding empty bottles and containers, wish me luck LOL)

Just tried this, and had the same problem: run out of clutter after 16 days (1-16, not reverse) but very fun and nice to know what i own and need, sentimental items too!

I kinda had similar thoughts that you did when I tried it this month. I've done it in the past and have been minimizing for several years. This time I ended up recycling stuff I thought I would reuse and that was about it. I made it like a week, ha. I'll stick with my declutter box in the closet for if I ever find something I want to sell or give away. (Though I do think this challenge has its uses for people who are at different points in their life)

I really need to go through and de-clutter my whole house and I think that this might actually be a good starting point. It's just a bit overwhelming, my fiance and I currently live in a two bedroom, one and a half bath mobile home. Even though there isn't a lot of space, we have stuff EVERYWHERE. I try to de-clutter a little bit here and there but I really need to sit down and just do it, probably one room at a time.

I’m seeing this on the 18th; I’m going to start tomorrow with 19 items so I don’t have to wait for February. WHILE WE’RE MINIMIZING, can we get rid of the first “r” in February?!

I've been decluttering the last 3 years or so. I didn't think i could do the challenge but went for it anyway. I'm at 300 items, i dont know if i'll find much else to declutter! I didn't do it daily, just when i had time id put items to the side and counted them later

I have never played this game, but honestly, I should have because I feel like spending the first lockdown in my room, I've decluttered so much stuff that I could've done it really easily 😅 I feel like it's even better if you can't do all the month, that means you're ok with everything that's in your house and that's the purpose of the game 🤷🏼‍♀️

WOW girl you need to come to my house and help me with this challenge. I wouldn't even know where to start to declutter. I love the idea though and I have to give myself that challenge. I would have to do it the other way though day one get rid of one day two get rid of two because I am not used to getting things out of my house. I think I could do this for a year straight, and still have clutter. I have a sister in law that lives with me, and she loves to shop so we have way too much of everything. I wish your wedding would get here already, I'm dying to see your wedding dress.
