Well, I doubt Magnus can beat the engine I use, (By gametop free download, "Grand Master Chess 3", never seen any of you guys play it either), so big deal. I bet it beats you 4 out of the first 5 games you play it on the "easy adult" level. Wanna bet me some money and show me how good you are? That is a challenge for all the YT experts. None of you are good enough to beat it. Go pick on some kids from the special Olympics.

Eric, what I know about chess... a5 only helped him to play his game.... Queenside is not the right place, where you should play. Center (control e4) and kingside play (f7-f5-f4) seems to be much more logical plan.
just the fact that you made him stare at the board for more than 10 seconds is an achievment.

That is impossible. Even computers will never be able to calculate all possible moves, simply because there is not enough time and space available. The total number of possible chess games is estimated to be 10^140 (the so called Shannon number). Compare that to the number of estimated atoms in the universe, which is 10^80, and you might understand why.

Magnus won thanks of small details. I think Eric's biggest positional mistake was not to unpin his knight. When he played Rh7 I think that Rf7 was slightly better. The Knight moved just once in the entire game and never reached f6 or f8. If Eric had played Rh7 followed by Nf8 and Ne6 the power of Magnus' bishop would have been seriously crippled and maybe he could have handled the draw. Of course after f6, which basically invited Magnus inside his castle, it was game over.

Anyways, as I guy that's played Magnus and MVL (the only superGMs I've played), Magnus is truly different. What that guy said was present in a lot of GMs, but Magnus takes that and magnifies it. He has bruteforce calculation skills. If people could calculate as fast and as accurately as him, they'd still have to face the fact that he hardly blunders positionally. I held my own against MVL before losing in the endgame. Magnus had me running circles around the middle game. Eric chose more of a solid opening and I played a more open sideline of the Modern.

It's a pattern to chess. Difficult to decide moves, to someone with a breadth of understanding such as Magnus' are rare to come by. If the moves seem simple until "the one" its because he has already identified the "best course" and only that fork in the road is really noticeable to us!
NIeman is vibrating in the back. Playing three at once must be stimulating. And he walks so activated, lovin the game and all.
Magnus is so advanced that I cannot seem to learn much from him, his style is inscrutable to me.

It was incredible to see Magnus's understanding of the position; Eric played solid moves throughout but I don't think he ever truly equalized. Magnus had Eric's pieces effectively paralysed around that backwards pawn going into the middle game. I wonder if it would have been possible to sac it at some point for activity; would love to see Eric's breakdown of this game.

Yeah, I don't much at all about Carlsen (I'm not really a chess player), but it was here that I realized he's got photographic memory. And then I looked that up, and yes, of course he does. How else could he just know that Eric hasn't moved yet with one, instantaneous glance before walking away? I guess there are videos of him playing multiple games blindfolded, so he has to have all of that in his memory. That ability obviously gives one a huge advantage in the game, not only for parlor tricks like that, but also in terms of just holding so many positions and strategies in your head, seeing how everything plays out super quickly.

@@niranjanrajesh1058 The 1300 might beat the 800 the way Magnus beats the IMs, that sounds fine. But a 2800 is familiar with at least hundreds of thousands more kinds of positions (or can navigate them better) than an IM, and probably has tens of thousands more hours of serious work. Many IMs can't even achieve the GM norms and get 150 more ELO points. The 800 player can probably get to 1300 with 140 hours of serious work, or 460 hours of messing around. At some point I reached 1600+ on Lichess, bullet 1 min no increment, after watching random chess videos on 2× speed while eating, by using my ADHD to go full madman mode and flag people. I got into top 43% or so players on that app, that particular game mode, by almost doing nothing. IMs would probably have to sell their souls and virginities to reach 2800.
