First time hearing a Martin [in person] was an “oh sh!t” moment for me. Very first chord on a D-28 filled the entire room with so much balance and clarity… I’m a teacher, so it will be a longgggg time before that guitar finds its way in my budget. But I will have one before I die. For sure, D-28 is now my number one dream guitar.

The new Satin D28's are about $400 cheaper. Also, many places have payment plans. I just got my first Martin, it was $2000 and i pay $100 a month for two years approx. You can do it. Also, once you get an amazing high quality instrument, you play it more, cuz it's that much more enjoyable.

I have an OM28 and just love it but honestly any solid wood guitar should be checked out and played, Martins are great but there are others too. Don't get stuck on the name. Take the advice from someone who's been playing for the last 45 years. Happy hunting!

@@tinongtravels7182 D18 is better than the D28 for sure. I prefer the HD28 for its ''reverb like'' character (scalloped braces), but it's more scooped than the D18, which is more middy and more woody dare I say b/c of the mahogany. Anyway cant go wrong with these dreadnoughts.

I bought my dad a D-41 for his 70th birthday. His first ever, and now I am hooked on wanting one next. The family history is a plus, as was meeting Chris Martin (former CEO of the company) in person recently. Much more than just a guitar, more like a lifelong piece of history and art.

Great video. I have a D-17 and a SC-13e in my collection. I'm more of a strummer/rhythm player than a lead player, but both of my Martins can handle all different styles. There is definitely an "IT" factor when it comes to Martin guitars. Hard to put into words but easy to put in your hands. Keep the videos coming. Always enjoy watching.

I own a Martin D-28 and I consider it my dream guitar. No matter how I'm playing it never lets me down. If something sounds less than good or great it's definitely not the guitar's fault. Mine is one of the Reimagined models from 2018. If you look up the artists through the years who have played a D-28 the list goes on and on. It's one of the most iconic models in the history of Martin guitars. Thanks for the interesting video.

The dream Martin I now own is a Martin D-17 Gloss Top mahogany that they stopped making in the early 2000s (not the new D-17s with the stained spruce or shark). The only gloss top and binding Martin mahogany series ever made. It's super warm with a bright shine, and I love it so much! When you're playing it, it sounds super boomy and massive, but as soon as you back away a bit it turns into this really balanced sound. That allows it to fit into a mix without being too muddy, but still have that massive feel. Gotta love that Martin sound!

Thanks for the vid. Love the SC13. I bought a D41 Ambertone from Sweetwater in March of this year at 53 after years of saving up for it. I've played various acoustic cutaways live over the last 30 years or so just plugged in with Piezo pickups. I bought a Fishman Aura box a few years ago and that helped but nothing sounds as great as a well mic'd high-end Martin in a live setting for a one man acoustic act. It has changed my whole stage setup and I shed several pedals and now just use two mics on one stand, and I also now sit to perform so I can mic that gorgeous guitar to give the instrument and the fine folks at Martin guitars their proper due. In the 25 years of performing prior I always stood to play but this is one guitar worth sitting down for and is by far the nicest instrument I've ever played or owned.

Mike I have an HD 28 and I play in a cover band in which I have to switch often between electric and acoustic. When I discovered the SC13, I thought it would be the guitar I had always dreamed of: electric guitar neck and cutaway in a Martin package. Such a disappointment. Quality problems from the start, including the pickup..and though I tried to have it set up properly I just couldn't rationalize all the difficulties for a guitar of its caliber and cost. So back to the HD28 I went, which has been a reliable workhorse for me, though I'm not sure it's worth the retail cost of almost $3,000, especially considering some of the great boutique guitars out there. I'd be curious to know what you thought of it, and anyone else out there who has played one. Was I just unlucky, or did Martin really take a great idea and blow it?

I got the now discontinued Martin OMC 16E burst, ovangkol. I wanted something unique that sounded and felt good in my hands. I played a lot of martins that day and nothing quite fit my hands and sing like that one. The cutaway definitely suits my play style too and I barely noticed any differences in tone as a result. Looking forward to playing it for years to come.

I have owned several nice Martins and currently have had my dream Martin guitars for a few years now. They are expensive but worth every cent. Both 6 and 12 string. I sold a few others on along the way as I worked my way up with some good guitar trades. Previously had a D16e and 000M. Good but not the full house Martin sound like my D35 and the D12-28. #3 is an OMC16e Ovankol with Fishman Matrix electronics for playing out. The Ovankol has alot of midrange punch while maintaining the bass and crisp highs Martin is known for. Something about the upper end Martins that just feel good in the hand and please the ear like no other. Any of the 15 series or above fit the bill for me.

I enjoyed this so much! I'm a Martin guy through and through. I own 4: D-35, JC-16ME, 000C-15E, 000-28 Reimagined Series. They all have their own voice but are all distinctly Martin. I didn't really understand this until I had owned one for a while, then I noticed that when I played another guitar, even beautiful sounding instruments, they didn't scratch the itch of the sound I wanted out of a guitar. That is not to knock any other guitar maker, just my personal preference. Thanks for sharing this video!

Dude that was way cool. My first Martin was a DC16GT-R and that Indian Rosewood back and sides really makes it sing. Still own it after 15 years. Before he died my dad gave me his D-17 which is aged and sounds so beautifully warm. I bought my daughter a sub $1,000 Martin where they're using some compressed woods and it still sings. Now I rounded out my collection with a Taylor 814CE which is just an insane dream. That one seems to bring the best of Martin and Taylor sounds together. But I won't ever sell any of them b/c they all have their place. Great video and you're way talented on the fret board!

I've got the SC-13E with the Spruce/Koa body and I absolutely love it! I can learn and practice electric guitar parts unplugged on the couch and used it a lot like it's my electric guitar. It's also the perfect acoustic guitar for an electric player accompanying another guitarist at an unplugged type gig. Every time I gig with it someone compliments me on how incredible the guitar sounds and asks me about it. I found myself needing a solid gig worthy acoustic and for so long I wanted the 000-15M because of Frusciante - I was saving up for it when the SC-13E was released and once I tried it out I was immediately impressed. It's not a 000-15M but I have no regrets. The offset looks a little funny if you stand it up vertically, but as soon as you pick it up to play the offset shape almost disappears. Great video Mike, I love how you shared the personal stories of when you first saw each model.

I have the original GPC-PA1 from 2010.It’s fantastic - has that great playability you want but with that great Martin sound. Still don’t understand why these were not one of the most popular Martins ever. Also, the greatest pickup system I have heard on any acoustic.

Huge Martin guitar fan. I’ve owned an HD-28 for about 2 years now and I can still hardly put it down. It never ceases to amaze me as to how great it sounds. Absolutely no regrets despite the price tag. Also have a DJr10E and “Little” Martin for travel, and love both for the value relative to their much lower price tag. Would highly recommend any of them - but clearly the HD-28 is an absolute dream guitar for me!

Great impromptu video. I have a couple of Martins myself. A ‘96 DM which is nothing spectacular, but it was my first and I STILL love it and play it quite often. A few years ago I FINALLY got my bucket list acoustic. The almighty HD28. It still smells like a cabinet shop every time I open the case. This thing is a cannon and it never ceases to amaze me that that kind of sound can come out of a wood box with strings on it. Although I love all guitars, there’s just some kind of magical “oomph” that only comes from a Martin.

I liked the OMC-28e (cutoff - not currently in production) I was trying out in 2018. Smoothest playing acoustic ever. Easier for me to play than the Collings OM-2H I ultimately bought, but the Martin had slightly less sparkle and clarity.

I've played the Clapton more than any of the others because of the comfortable size and shape but I can't see getting rid of any of them. Would like get a custom build from their custom shop. That would be my dream acoustic guitar.

Great video Mike! I've had a 000-15sm for almost a year. It's the mahogany 12-fret. It's a really beautiful guitar, and I've noticed that the sound is getting better as I play it. I was actually so in love with the look of the guitar, that knowing it didn't sound perfect (for my first Martin), I bought it anyway. I'm happy I did because it's filling out beautifully. I keep it on my wall opposite my speakers so its bell is getting rung even if I'm not playing it. Thanks for the videos!

I bought a d-35 last year, spent probably 20 hours at a number of local guitar stores playing every high end guitar they had. J-45, a hummingbird, d28, d18, hd-28, etc. The d-35 just sounded so amazing to me, couldn’t say no to it. It’s the best sounding guitar I’ve ever played and I’m proud to say it lives in its case beside my bed 😂

I have found a beaten up D35 from 1973 in a vintage store in Austin that I restored, and that’s the most beautiful sounding guitar I ever played. It’s a bit capricious to play since it doesn’t have an adjustable trussrod, but maaaan…the SOUND! I named her June after Johnny Cash’s wife (who famously played a D35) 😊

My favorite Martins: D-35 and D-18. I don't own a D-18, but I have a D-35 that was made in the 1980s (I think) and the center section of the back is Brazilian Rosewood, so it has better-than-average tone. I do not have a D-18, but I hope to get one someday.

BTW I went to the Martin factory in August and played many models in the picking parlor. I walked away with a Cherryhill -01. I was fully intending on buying one of the classic models, but this guitar blew me away.
