the thing about Astroneer's geometry is that if you want a perfectly flat/straight surface, you need to go to the north/south pole

actually this isn't true, you can hold control to use the "flatten" tool and as long as you keep using the same plane to start on, you'll end up with a large perfectly flat surface

@@Tripleflipbas an old astroneer player. Using the flatten tool does make a flat surface. But what we are talking about is “true flat” essentially you can create a perfectly vertical wall. Which is near impossible everywhere else. And then using that vertical wall you can compare your floor to see if it is also true flat. It is possible to recognize it by using the flatten tool and slowly building towards the surface that you want to be true flat. You will notice the ground snap together differently than most places. I do believe when they added creative mode they added something to create a block of ground that could be used to make a platform. But it still wasn’t true flat.

@@memegohere_brrsame. Definitely haven’t played it as much as I have other games. I have some games with thousands of hours. But astroneer was and still is my favorite game. When they announced they were partnering with Devolver, my excitement skyrocketed. Usually updates were slow but now there should be a lot more to each update. I just don’t have friends to play with so when I do play. If I’m not starting from scratch, I can get bored quickly. The custom world update was a blessing. Still hoping they managed to add a planet with rivers and stuff. Possibly being able to move the liquid back to other planets so you can make your own ponds and rivers.

It is hilarious and frustrating as an Astroneer player to see the various ways Floyd made automation at least three times harder Why make expanded platforms when you can use auto arms to move resources between separate platforms? Why use canisters when you can use storage silos? Then, when Floyd does start using expanded platforms and canisters for automation, he forgets that Hydrazine is a liquid Firstly, I'm surprised that Floyd never took advantage of the large slots on his large shuttle to increase the number of medium slots, something players typically do before powering all the gateway chambers Secondly, I'm amazed by Floyd's unique path of progression which entails completing the Vesania MAT before the Desolo MAT, the Desolo that's the first location you visit other than Sylva, and the MAT that uses far simpler materials, before completely ignoring the Desolo MAT during his automation uprising 2:11:20 "The second MAT quest was complete" - FloydsonYT Congratulations to the goose on the loose for making an entertaining, completely realistic documentary of interstellar travel, automation, and matrix-breaking ... Technically, Aluminum and Aluminium are both correct spellings of the same thing. Aluminum was what it was called first, and someone in Europe decided one day that it should be Aluminium to fit in with other elements (like Gallium, for example)... except there's a bunch of stuff that doesn't end in -ium like Iron, gold, and mercury. So... it's whatever
I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a fan of the “100 days, etc” videos that flooded KZread but you are playing Astroneer. If the Zebra ball next to my name isn’t obvious. I have to watch you play. Depends when you played. A lot of stuff got added over the years. I remember activating all the gateways and planets. Getting the ending cutscene at space altar thing. And then getting all the achievements for the golden skin. Then I come back a good while later and there is automation, trains, fabric of reality is being broken. There are gastropod pets. And overall so much new stuff to enjoy.
Good job on figuring out so much on your own! The one thing I really wish the tutorial covered is the value of using platforms with room for storage, like the large platform type B. It would save new players so much micromanagement of things like the smelter and soil centrifuge if the game taught them that equipment can automatically interact with storage units on the same platform....

Mate, I absolutely love your down-under charming approach to playing games! Keeping with the space theme, have you considered No Man's Sky? It has funky creatures, looooads of foraging and the devs have pulled a sneaky one at release, but since made up for it. Also: spaceships.
Something to note about the alignment mod, if you look down and aim at the ground you CAN align the terrain tool to the curvature of the planet. This just wasn't specified clearly enough by the game lol
My 4 month old son has come to find Australian accents very relaxing and great napping background atmosphere; you, indeimaus and vaatividya have become regular repeat playlists in our house. Also, my wife and I love Astroneer, so this video was a very special treat!

To any new players who watch this, automation is hugely important to decreasing the grind. While you cant automate the fetching questing this game puts you through you can automate the creation of items which saves a huge amount of time. For example you can automate the building of platforms, auto arms, storage item, ECT. Using the storage sensors makes these setups very easy to build and decreases the amount of time you spending waiting around significantly. Also automating mining as soon as possible also cuts down on the grind.
