Maybe I missed this in the video, how did you find/apply for the allotment?
@SpicyMoustache
Жыл бұрын
Kind of a random story. I was tending to my front garden when an old guy named Alf stopped by to admire it so I showed him my backyard garden (as I usually do that when I see people passionate about growing food or curious). He was really impressed and he asked me to stop by on a Sunday at the local plots to apply for one. I heard of people waiting in the queue to get one for many years but once I explained my project and assured them that I would have worked hard to make it look great, I managed to get it in 4 months

I don’t think it’s creepy that you’d love to see the plot and growers in person. I also love to marvel over others gardens and talents 😊. Cheers to this channel and their crew who work so hard to make it what it is.

I’m in the desert Southwest of the US. 5000’ elevation in the upper Chihuahuan desert. I’m trying to turn desert geology, good dirt, into living soil. I’m 5 years in and just getting started. A friend donated some greenhouse frames of varying sizes, one of which is gonna provide 2 raised beds about 20’ long. I’m being forced into redesigning my garden to accommodate my wheelchair with wider paths.

@@dr.froghopper6711"water is life" is the mantra where I live too. Central California where so much of the world's food is grown. Technically a desert, without water and irrigation systems it would be a dustbowl here. I appreciate what you need to adapt for your mobility issues. I have multiple types of arthritis and am needing to adapt for them. Raised beds, tools that are light weight and have fat handles as well as shorter handled shovels and hoes so I can work seated. There are so many great children's tools available now that I am getting well equipped again. Happy gardening friend.
Watching this man’s videos soothes my anxiety and has inspired me to start a indoor garden. In the heart of Hollywood California. Thank you 🙏🏼

Lots of studying, reading and learning from knowledgeable people :)
Your knowledge is incredible. Out of this world. Seriously. This is literally all you could possibly ever hope to learn going to school for any of this anyways. This man his really figured it out.
What a fabulous transformation in a few short months! You were the ideal person to take on that neglected little plot. Your wet July has been such a bonus, even if it has its downsides. The phenomenal growth not only gives you abundant harvests, but prolific vegetative growth which you will turn into stores of rich compost over winter. You will need more compost bays! So beautiful to see. Thankyou.
You are blessed to have a green thumb. I have tried to grow my own food for three yrs. in a row. It was a dismal failure. But blessings to you and your wonderful gift.
Received your book a week ago, highly recommend it as a reference and your own proven experience. An addictive read, but brilliant when the heavy rain keeps you from outside and an opportunity to read more of a very informative book on realistic gardening and nature too😊 congratulations, Alessandro. Well worth the purchase and a good study book.
Amazing video. Just bought your book. You have inspired me to start gardening fruits, vegetables, as well as mushrooms. I truly appreciate that you make these videos to show people that growing their own food can be so fun and rewarding, but also beneficial.

Found you due to your short videos. Glad I made my way to the entire channel. You earned a sub and so much more. This knowledge is VALUABLE. Looks awesome and so glad you got an allotment. be interested in talking with you
Your plot is looking fantastic may you have a abundance of harvest. Your book arrived yesterday looking forward to reading it and learning more.
I Poland you can buy a plot or rather a share in a society that owns number of plots. You become a member, everyone has the same rights and you can sell allotment later on if you wish. Usually sizes of these are 200-400 square meters. You got electricity there and water in each allotment. You pay for electricity whatever you use and you pay membership fee which is usually around 20p per square meter per year. Also you are allowed to raise a proper building on your plot up to 35m measured around the building walls + 12m2 of decking.
Enjoyed it thoroughly, thank you. Watching while recovering from flu and you make me feel better!! Plus all the useful information that I will use later!!
You don’t stop impressing me, trust me, you are really making an impact man!!

I learn so much and get such inspiration from your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us. I also have to say that one of the things I appreciate the most about your videos is that you share about things that have not worked as well as you thought they would. A lot of folks who have videos, it's as if everything they have done has worked out fantastically! Their projects always come out 100% perfect everytime!! That isn't realistic AND seeing that so often is discouraging for viewers who don't have as much success. Your videos have a much more natural balance of trial and error. I appreciate seeing the learning process. Thank you again for sharing your passion with all of us! I wish you and yours all the best and look forward to seeing more of your videos as we head into autumn. We are hoping to start gardening in September here with a couple of raised beds. One will hopefully be garlic and shallots that will overwinter for harvest in May/June. The other we are hoping to have brassicas, peas and lettuces before the snows come. We are in the US, southern New England. Oh, we are also hoping to get in saffron crocuses in the next 2 weeks so we can have a harvest this fall!

mr spicy moustache , that compost sounds very similar aparrently to the "terra preta" it a especial human made compost in all the amazonia is considered the best compost ever , dont know i you use it , but if you do that good to know if you dont , well it could be for you to know about special compost , The terra preta consists of a complex mixture: "Natural" soil (yellow or reddish and sterile in the case of the Amazon) Vegetable charcoal Fragments of ceramic objects Organic waste such as plant residues, animal feces, and fish bones Several thousand different microorganisms thats a part we dont know to much bout

@@SpicyMoustacheyes of course. I hadn't thought of bulbs, though I am concentrating on adding perrenials so bulbs will go on my list. I really like your spiral brick bed. Did you cement the bricks together or are they free standing? Did you add a lining on the inside to prevent the compost leaking out? I have a load of old bricks and roof tiles. I was thinking of doing something similar, but using the tiles as a lining as they have a slight curve. It truly is a wonderful idea. It's making me look at everything I have to see if I can use it.
