More dark home renovations! It is halloween season after all.
I got a bunch of paint, and did the most unprofessional paint job ever. I tried to make my bedroom as a dark night sky… well a lot of learning went into this. Is it perfect? Certainly not. Do I regret it? No way! I plan to make it even darker soon 🦇

I always find it funny when people say painting a bedroom dark is too depressing, but they just love their blackout curtains or blinds which they always leave shut. I hope your lovely dark room brings you lots of joy to come.

A room with pale/white walls and 100% blackouts will be bright when the lights are on and dark when the lights are off and you are sleeping. It's all about making a space you enjoy whether it is bright or dark or both.

If you want dark furniture, instead of painting the wood, just stain it a darker color. Ebony would be a good color if you want to go very dark. Cherry would add some dark red contrast to the dark blue in the room. Love what you've done so far!

I love wooden furniture and hope she goes in that direction. But removing the (probable) furniture laquer can be a huge pain. My second hand furniture turned out to not be covered with a laquer that softens with heat. And the solvent, wait, scrape, repeat process has not been fun 🙃They used some glue type during construction that disolves using the same solvent as the laquer..

As long as you add a layer of clear in between the original surface and the new paint, you can always go back to the old colour. I always suffer seing chalk paint victims. Removing chalk paint is near to impossible....

When you pulled out the trim pieces, the first thing I imagined was golden trim in all the wall corners and across that beautiful ceiling to make it look like you are looking at the stars through the glass roof of a green house or something ❤ that would look sooo magical!

LED strips lights for the stars, you can get those lights with very thing cable and also paint it blue to it's "invisible", and some lights come with the option to program them in different ways so you can make some shine a little brighter than others to make constellations.

if you want to make stars on the ceiling, i cannot recommend enough: metallic gold vinyl decals! they make wall stickers that are different sizes of stars and i have a room in my house that's 12x19ft, where i chose to make a starry ceiling...the stickers save so much time and look fantastic, as if i had stenciled them with a brushed metallic paint. then you won't break your back and arms doing all of that painting.

When I was getting divorced, I rented a house where someone had already painted the bedroom a very dark blue. It was my first time with dark walls in a bedroom and I really liked it. They had also painted the living room a very dark green and that I did repaint because the room looked much bigger in a lighter color. Then when I bought a house, I decided I wanted my bedroom dark. I got a split roller pan and a split roller with lots of texture and did two different colors of blue at the same time and it turned out great! I think yours turned out great too.

The room look cool but I would recommend against painting your wood furniture. Whenever I've painted or had painted wood furniture, it shows wear-and-tear very quickly. All the little scratches and scuff marks start happening very soon and it doesn't look great, UNLESS you are going for the distressed, worn-looking painted furniture that already looks aged. Then it's okay. But if you want to make your bedroom furniture more unique and also darker, you could re-stain them in a darker wood color and then paint on gold details onto the stained furniture. And also darken the hardware. That would get your darker, spooky atmosphere without painting over all the pretty woodgrain.

This looks amazing! I think well worth the pain in the paint application. My one suggestion as someone who has dark walls in their bedroom is to invest in swiffer dusters or similar, because the dust on the dark walls shows up a lot when the lights are on. Not an immediate concern, but something to keep in mind. Looking forward to seeing what you're up to next!

Beautifully executed dark and moody paint job! I wanted to do this in my bedroom, but second guessing the amount of work to reverse it if we didn't like, turned into just painting the walls a solid dark moody blue. Leaving the wood doors and white trim and ceiling. Definitely a clean look , but seeing this makes me want to just go for it! My suggestions for finishing touches in your space, statement lighting like repurposing an old ornate chandelier by spraying it black, crystals included. As well, rather than painting furniture, I've had good results using black gel stain to darken finish leaving the wood grain visible. This helps maintain the warmth and texture that wood brings to a space. Happy DIYing😻

There's some kind of metalic foils that you only need to rub on a specific glue to make everything golden/silvery/etc. looking. Might be a cheap and easy project for the star ceiling 🤔 (Like you could craft some stars or constellations, add the glue on it and then rub the foil onto it. Those crafted stars could be then glued on the ceiling.)

A carved headboard and footboard for the bed would definitely add to the gothic vibes. My grandparents used to have this heavy carved mahogany bedframe with four posts that looked like it came out of a vampire castle somewhere because the pineapple carving was so weirdly spikey. If your floor has a lot of slopes between the tiles it might get a little stuck, but trust me, it's worth the try and CHEAP af.

My furniture is white to brighten it a bit (and I could only afford cheaper Ikea furniture... so had not tooo much options xD) But I love how your room looks - but the idea with the stars and gold sounds awesome too! Love the idea of adding gold constellations and stars! Your ceiling looks like a nebula already 😍 I think it would still look very gothic if you did that. I think a bed curtain/canopy would fit the vibe perfectly! Very much gothic/vampire core. And you can embellish it to your heart's content with beads and fringe. The furniture is beautiful as is, but with how dark the room is, I would stain it a darker, more cool-toned shade to coordinate better. Your DIY lamp fits so well in the space, I can't wait to see what else you make for it! I think you could add some hanging like Moroccan lamps in one corner. Keeping the old furniture as it is, but maybe add golden details to it (like nailhead/buttons I dunno how it is called, you see mostly on doors, when small dots are drawing out lines or sg, or just imitating it imitating it) Yess to the golden stars & constellationson the ceiling, & you still can keep/play with clouds, either watercolour-y or more stylized (as I guess the stars woukd be 🤩) Warm light to make the cold blue cozyer at the evenings, uuh oh tiny light or light with big papermache shades 🤩 you can papermashe any shape and put any figures, or plants in between the paper layers and when the light us on they become visible

I suggest you get the glowing in dark stars stickers that are available for projects like this, but, then you can trim all the glow stars in maybe different crinkled up colored foils to give them some sparkle in the daytime? If you wanted to go extra extra plus plus, you could engineer each glow star into a fiber optic light system so each star can light the room properly and get extra charge for glowing from the light once the light is turned off? ... aaaaand, even more extra extra extra extra, you make a room-ceiling-sized motorized orrery suspended from ceiling with sun in center and all the planets rotate around the sun, and they will all have your stars and constellations glowing and shining behind them as you look at all of the heavens you have made rotating across the sky and stars you have done. :) ... BUT, if you want to cheat, and go less practical special effects, and more virtual, there are small home-planetarium projector systems that will save you a lot of time and effort, because you just plug in and turn on.

I love adding warm metals to dark colors, but rather than a bright yellow gold I prefer copper or bronze. It adds the warm metal brightness than plays well with dark colors but is slightly more "gothy", which is I think what you're going for.

There’s 💡 ideas running through my mind if you want something crazy cool, well here it is, Because your room is (dark) a night vibe is perfect, for a lower case mural showing but first you’ll need a fairly tall lamp to grace a street lamp look Vintage preferably, and paint building shapes that look like the street is leading off in a path, and the light will shine on the street path leading off, with adding some few spar sparse trees along the sidewalk, along with floral arrangements down around and along the path, and decorate the buildings with windows in every shape and size, later adding fairy lights behind the windows that would have window coverings,so that the windows can look lit up,or off, and put a few characters down by the lamplight, people, animal or two. This would have to take place on one of your walls that don’t have the trimmed squares on it. And in the background your desired look maybe a car driving down the street and some mountain fading into the background. I have French doors that open up to show enter changeable murals of different places etc... For the true artist that You definitely are ✅💯% Skies the limit 💖👍🥳❣️❣️❣️Go for your dreams and of course make your night sky 💙

Wow, that turned out so beautiful with the furniture and everything! 😁 The lighter colored floors are just perfect! I wish I could have a room like that, but even if I had the space, I would hate it because, how would you ever detect a spider on the wall, before you are closer to it than you ever wanted to be! 😳

Pretend the walls absorb any spiders, and then banishes them to a place you can never see or go!!! :)

I love how this turned out! If I was doing this I would use different textures to make sure that the room and the furniture doesn’t blend into one and another. So I would use high gloss paint on the wardrobe and dressoir, I would use thin, gauze like curtains so they would move more when the windows/doors are opened (and use blackout blinds for sleeping) And I’d use a light, maybe metallic, accent color to create some visual interest, and use that for art work, light fixtures, etc.

Oooh, oooh, ooh! And I would dip dye the gauzy curtains, to match the ombré paint on the walls!😻😻

It's an impressive room -- good job! My one caveat would be that if you make absolutely everything as absolutely dark as possible, you will absolutely be walking into things (or worse, stubbing your toes) at night when you have to get up for any reason! :-)

That looks amazing! I have plans on designing a media entertainment area of my home heavily in blacks, deep purples and darker blues. Using paint that fluoresces to create murals of planets, nebulae, and galaxies and then illuminating everything in blacklight and incandescent light. Both lighting types will be on separate switches so I can mix or light them separately. I want to create the feeling of being in another world.

The room looks fabulous and the furniture pops off the walls making them lovely. If it was me I would paint them gold. But I am always pleasantly surprised with your ideas. Best of luck and maybe a nice soak in the tub will ease the aches & pains. ❤
