I OVER ENGINEERED My Central Storage | Satisfactory Lets Play Ep.45
Satisfactory Central Storage
-- Read More Below --
Welcome back to our Update 5 lets play series, today we're over engineering our Central Storage system. The personal storage will hold all resources I need for building, using trains for transporting the resources. The circular central storage design looks great with the lighting, but I've got to admit, it's got me super excited for the next project! Rebuilding our starter Factory!

About: Satisfactory
Satisfactory is a first-person open-world factory building game with a dash of exploration and combat. Pioneering for FICSIT Incorporated means charting and exploiting an alien planet, battling alien lifeforms, creating multi-story factories, entering conveyor belt heaven, automating vehicles, and researching new technologies.
This Factorio like game has heavy automation, with automated mining, crafting, and you can even automate movement!

    its comforting to know that im not the only one who builds most of the building before realizing i need to tear it down and rebuild it because something is off by one square or level

    I recently decided to take up the challenge to make some beautiful designs thanks to Xclipse. I curved my foundations 90 degrees, and there was a 1 meter or so gap that I was able to "fill in" with sign-lighting. I loved it, and built my factory mirrored around this gap... Except the east of the gap had one additional foundation before the curve, and thus the entire thing wasn't symmetrical. But I already built a huge chunk of the *aesthetic* design and didn't want to restart with proper symmetry. BOY I regret that. That one tiny mistake means the sorting layer underneath was misaligned, the constructors above were off-center, the walls are off by half a meter, angling my walls doesn't line up, etc. Next time I see something being a little off by even ONE METER, I'm changing that instantly.

    Fantastic build. I always struggle with scale as I build. I never build large enough, so things just get cramped and there's no room to do aesthetic bits. I guess I need a couple thousand more hours, lol.

    I calculate the max capacity of a node with an mk3 miner and setup the factory floor for the future production capacity of that miner. For example pure iron node will only require 4 smelters in the beginning of the game, but I reserve room for 16 smelters for the future.

    10:38 - you're concerned about this large open space- perhaps consider leaning into the circular bit you've created for the storage bins... Expand the radius out that big open hole and make it part of the overall structure. Almost as if a turbocharger was a building... one of many options here. Loving this and am inspired! I still have much to learn i see

    I'm not so much concerned about the large open space I'm definitely going to build it out. But I feel that the overall structural if very chunky which doesn't fit with the overall aesthetic. But I like the suggestion though

    You should consider adding an industrial container that leads into the smart sorting system and sorts all of your equipment and gathered resources such as berries, wood, etc. You can even split wood, leaves, power slugs, etc. off to a constructor line to be processed and then run back into the main sorting system so you never have to manually process anything.

    I normally add one, but that would probably be wherever I choose the personal entrance for the line to be - when I know that, we'll add a dumping storage 😊

    I've been mentally designing a storage room and wasn't even considering a circular building. I'm certainly going to borrow the idea. The decorative work you do is amazing and makes my inner artist want to tear down my factory (for the third time on my first playthrough) and start from the ground again. On the bright side, the factory looks and operates better with each redesign as I unlock better tech and learn more.

    Nice design, though personally I would switch to a single train for all incoming resources. Even with switching and signals, there may come a time when one train gets stuck preventing another from docking or leaving to go collect more. I like to have no rail switches as much as possible.

    Is there an explanation on how the train stations are setup? For example, if we transport many items into one freight station, when it’s full, you cut off other items from coming in. If we transport them in their dedicated stations, we don’t have enough stations ….. help please lol😂

    That building is gorgeous . You may not be an architect, but you have an architect's eye. One thing that puzzles me - and I've searched around for answers for - about central storage is...why? I hope I'm not being dense about this, but why build central storage? Is it to be able to craft whatever you want personally, on the fly? All the vids I've seen - yours, Imkibitz, Z1 Gaming, etc. - the central storage fills up and...what? I never see them used in production, hence, my confusion for their purpose unless it's to craft something you need by hand.

  • @TotalXclipse

    @TotalXclipse

    It's more for being able to get any resource you need - whether that's building or crafting. If you have massive factories or lots of different factories, you don't want to be travelling all over the place for the different resources, it's much easier to have one single location for them all 🙂

    Hey, just a thought: maybe you could consider doing what I did for my circular storage depot. All my overflows are split off at the base input of my first storage container, and any overflow of items then goes onto a single merger line that runs the circuit underneath the depot floor. And that way all the excess items just go to one central Awesome Sink set at the head of the depot space, and saves you a ton of power that doesn’t need to be spent letting numerous sinks sit idle or running redundant jobs. As far as any bottleneck is concerned, I haven’t experienced any-even though lower tier items like Iron Rod can quickly pile up, the higher tier items like Suoercomputers take longer to back up so the merger circuit stays pretty smooth the whole time. Just a tip that might save you a lot of builds and power in the future (even nuclear power raconteurs can be energy efficient!). So you end up with a system that lets your containers fill as normal, but the moment the containers for that item are full the excess just automatically joins the Mass Sink Line. Also saves you a lot of build components since it’s cheaper components-wise to build mergers and belts than sinks.

  • @TotalXclipse

    @TotalXclipse

    2 жыл бұрын

    I could do that, but I'm not concerned about resources as I have plenty in storage and as for power - if I remember correctly the awesome sinks only consume energy when they're sinking items? So the only issue is space or time to remove them... And I'm not spending another hour removing the lines and merging them 🤣

    See, this is my issue that has been growing as I play this game. When you need large buildings there just isn't a lot of room for large constructs unless you go to sky platforms.

    I can only engineer a good efficient storage facility but no where near your level of artistic abilities lol but like imkibitz does I have two rows on each side with 18 large containers in each column for 1 item and near the front I keep the more basic items such as power shards, biomass, iron rods plates copper products progressing on to rotors reinforced plates then more advanced motors then lesser needed items as the rows progress so what I need to build a factory is near the front for every item in the game except for the spicy tingly stuff for nuclear power lol the rest of my factory however is always trash no matter how hard I plan everything out after motors it's an Italian restaurant... 😂
