It isn’t that I didn’t care about your change in space. I was very please that you made changes to your space that you wanted. But, honestly!, the best part of this share for me was the joy you clearly took in each step of the changes you made. Thank you. I’m still smiling at your smiles and dancing joy🙂

Denise S I used to call them “rooms of death” because they both spiritually sucked the life out of you & often were physically dangerous by all the junk on the floor & perched precariously too high. Had both a sewing room & garage like this. You also have to understand whether you are the kind of person that can handle having hidden storage. I used to always organize things into boxes so the room looked neat but then I lost my ability to deal with what was in them so they’d sit unopened for years & I’d repurchase what I already had. So I had to figure out how to have the stuff put away but still know what’s in it either through labels or transparent/semitransparent bins.

Well, Dani, I’ve spent the last week organizing my studio, and let me tell you that your room looks empty compared to mine! I’ve got decades of fabric, yarn, and other fiber crafts. Add in sewing machines, a serger, a loom, three antique sock knitting machines.... My quilting frame doesn’t fit in here, and we won’t mention the flatbed knitting machine I just purchased. I loved watching what you did to your room, and envy your wall space! I have windows...lots of windows. And a fireplace. I put up my ironing board in front of that (I will never have a fire in there), and bought six foot tall shelving units to put in front of the windows on one wall. I set up all my shelves high enough off the ground that my robo-vac can get under there. I can’t to wait to work in my organized “new” room!

You can always add canvas storage by doing a drop down holder from the ceiling (sort of like how people store kayaks?). They’re super space efficient and easy to install.

This looks great. I did my craft room at the beginning of Covid. I also Marie Condo'd the room. It stressed me out for 4 days. After sorting through all my stuff for 2 days, it still looked like I hadn't got rid of anything. It was a painful well, but looks great now!

I use the Ivar shelves in all my rooms except the bathroom. In the kitchen it holds my microwave and baskets with food items (my pantry), in the bedroom I added a drawer unit and use it as dresser/wardrobe (built in closets aren't a thing in Germany). In the living room it acts as my TV stand, in the crafty room it's for storage as in this video, with many boxes for keeping like with like. In the hallway I use one as storage above my freezer, the 83cm version is wide enough. I love the possibilities and adjustable heights of the shelves. Reorganizing is so easy with this system.

You know Danie, I am reasonable organised. Then my kids dropped of stuff, one went smaller, other went anti squat as Northern Europe has a housing problem in big cities, studying, and a small dorm room, and mom's attic and shed is overflowing with "not my stuff". Even in my cellar is porcelain of one of them as it doesn't fit in the kitchen. I honestly need Marie Kondo to talk to my kids. Love your new craftroom. Organised, cosy and spacy. Well done.

These are the kinds of room makeovers I like the best, seeing creative people re-do their own creative space. Not only does it scratch those reorganize, redecorate itches like all room makeovers do, it gives some insight into how other creatives set up to make their processes more efficient. Not just inspiring how a room should look, inspiring how a room should WORK and how to make creativity as unencumbered and free as possible. Thanks, Danie! (PS that two-panel paint drip piece is dope!)

So happy for you! This is a beautiful transformation. So much weight coming off your shoulders with each new transformation! Would love to see at least the pile of what was let go, Marie Kondo style, sitting out in the driveway or as a pile of trash bags so we can see the amount of downsizing that took place. It LOOKS like there is a lot less stuff in here. A brown corner cabinet is missing, the rug, too, right? Did any old art or supplies get tossed? LOVE your desk solution that allows you to change the height of your workspace!!! It is great that there are so many height options! Love the backsaver mat to stand on. Love how the cabinets fit around your walls in the corner so perfectly. Love the metal cabinet underneath! Also love the beautiful curtains and trailing philodendron and greens throughout which turn this from a storage area to a living area. Just a great space! Looks like if you need more shelving you have room for it in the nook where you put the red and white wreath. Think I would have put the bulletin board on the same wall with the chalk board and let the space next to the shelves where the bulletin board is be for extra tall supplies or an ironing board, but I defer to your expertise in this. lol. Great job! Enjoy this!

Hi Danie, thank you for some really good inspirations! I only have a corner and the table of my dining room to explore my creativity but I do have a large Ivar shelving unit painted white to organise paints, canvases and other utilities (I mostly paint BTW). What I did, is storing my brushes and pallet knives into the small Sunnersta boxes which can be hung on the side bar of the Ivar shelving. This gives me more room on the shelfs and the option to get an additional shelf as some of my brushes are rather long. :)

I liked the the craft paper holder. Now you want to come help me with mine? We just gutted it as it it got new flooring. Its an odd room that is walked through to get to a bathroom, sunroom, patio door, and you can enter from two ways - neither of which has a door. We’ve moved here a year and a half ago and I miss having a dedicated room I can just close the door. My studio is now part of our main living floor living right off the kitchen. Nothing huge but with two archways, a sliding barn door for the bathroom, and two patio doors, it limits wall space. We did put my big 64 x42 antique drafting table in the living room which frees up more space for storage of 30+ years of crafting supplies. I know we need to do the 3 hour drive to ikea for bookcases in our library that we couldn’t use here. I’ve been binging videos for studio makeovers for ideas.

I am on the 4th painting of the entire interior of a house / condo. I do walls in reverse of the recommendation to cut in edges first. I find that the first ones done are dry when I come back with the roller, and then I wind up having to feather the roller mark out with a brush, so go over much of it twice. No! The roller is the fastest part of painting walls, so I roller first. Then when I cut in under the ceiling and the trim the walls are still wet enough that I can easily feather out the brush over the roller edge, and voila! It goes so much faster and looks great.

Love your makeover - so terrific! However, if it hasn’t already been mentioned, you REALLY need the Observator cross-brace supports on the back side of ALL your Ivar pieces for extra stability. I have several of these awesome Ivar units in my home and would never use them without the cross-braces - even on the short units and with a cabinet tucked inside.
