Ahhh now I understand. So using sugar is “candied” and frying them on their own with the natural sugars is caramelised? I'm so impressed you attempted to make those rice noodles yourself! Like wow! I know they didn't turn out the way you intended, but they're actually pretty good considering you improvised with the tools you had on hand. The majority of us Asians wouldn't even bother to try to make rice noodles cause it's such a hassle! You might have better luck finding the rice noodles in a Vietnamese supermarket if you want to buy them next time. The Korean ones, I think are made with potato starch and that's why they're transparent and more chewy.

It’s honestly because English is stupid since “caramelize the onions” is the same meaning as “brown the onions” but I guess because it’s not meat we choose to say caramelize instead? I’d be curious to see where/why we say that phrase for onions only.

You should’ve crushed the takis into a powder then added to the cheese sauce, that’s probably so good!!

for caramelized onions i think you added wayyy too much sugar, you're only supposed to put a v small amount to help speed up the caramelization process (u dont have to put sugar at all if you dont want to), but you should caramelize onions first because it takes a really long time

NO SUGAR, DOSE NOT TO BE IN IT AT ALL... "caramelized" onions are just LITERALLY fried with butter in a frying pan.. salt and pepper thats it.. that's literally how its done.. they just take a while to cook to a brown color

Yeah, caramelizing doesn't involve sugar at all. That's why it didn't taste right. No sugar

I 100% appreciate how Naomi cautions people about frying oil because you see a lot of people on KZread just goofing around with it, I also really like how she admitted that because she was filming she kind of felt like she didn't wanna take it as seriously and for her to address that it's just very meaningful because it just shows she actually cares about the well being of her audience

I love rock candy! My dad would tease my older brother and I when he got them by saying he was eating rocks and it always intrigued me. The ones we have are smaller and are chocolate coated with a hard shell. I worked back in a deli where we fried a bunch of foods and I have to admit I panic at the thought of getting burned because I know just how painful that is. I still have a few scars from burning myself on fryer oil so please be careful next time if you try it again!
