Dodgeball will always be my favorite even after the trauma from this story. Growing up, not many schools did Dodgeball as a little league team, but there were enough who participated to start one. My school was one of the little league teams. During the match, I went down to grab the ball and as I looked up, I got hit in the middle of my face. What made this worse was somehow whoever threw the ball, their teammate thought the same thing. So as the first ball impacted my face, the second one was right behind that ball giving the first one the extra push. The impact was so strong, it push my head back while my body stayed in place causing me to go to the bench for the rest of the game because of the damage it caused my neck to have. I remember it being so stiff, if I wasn't alive it could be categorized as rigor mortis.

i was a football guy in high school. pretty good at what I did, i was on offensive line, pretty big dude. I knew i wasn't gonna make the basketball team, or the golf team, or any of those other sports, but I still tried out for them anyway just to be annoying to the coaches. I remember trying out for the golf team, going up to the coach after the tryout and saying "I shot an 89." Coach said "Wow hey that's pretty good!", to which i then replied "Coach... that was the first 9 holes". I did not make the golf team... but I did get to dress all fancy for a day.

I have sucky hand-eye coordination too, unless it's close up stuff like drawing or threading a needle or repairing spectacles. The only sport I was good at was the long jump. Like track and field there's not any finesse to it - just run skip jump.

i find that when skiing, it is easier to sort of dig the edge of your ski and push yourself in that direction, one after the other, with each ski diagonal, instead of just shuffling. or just push yourself along with you poles

oh hey, im a boy scout, and my troop does yearly skiing activities, and i can say, quite firmly, skiing is hard, especially since the whole "fries to go fast" and "pizza to slow down" thing doesnt work all that well, especially on more steep hills, but in all of my skiing activities, i can say that the main hard part of skiing, is fear factor, especially when you go down a hill and you can see the bottom. most easy hills are the same as hard hills (at least in most places where you sign up to go skiing) but the difference is how much of the hill you can see.

My sports experience has been getting hit in the head by (almost) every piece of sporting equipment you can think of. Baseballs, soccer balls, basketballs, one of those plastic bowling pins, tennis balls, an exercise ball once, foam balls, golf balls, frisbees, I even got domed with a bat once (The hitter threw it).

5:18 This reminds me of a time when in gym, we were playing a game and one of the best kickers came up and kicked the ball. I angled myself to catch the ball and closed my eyes and caught it!!! Had very similar experiences in softball! I was notorious for never swinging the bat (but had the most walks-to-base of any other player - I guess my never swinging really threw off pitchers lol). Also was not super great at knowing where best to throw the ball, so I played the least number of innings and was an outfielder. Towards the end of the season I actually hit the ball - with a recently-broken pinky - AND it stayed in-bounds AND I made it to first base! My coach and teammates were similarly shocked 😂 Turns out when you stick a kid who needs glasses with poor depth perception and undiagnosed ADHD in sports like that, we just don’t do so great 😂 Too much going on, everything is too fast, I’m rarely directly involved so my mind wanders, I am s w e a t i n g and it’s gross and the sun is too bright which are distracting, I have poor hand-eye coordination and I cannot tell how fast the ball is moving. I could catch and aim okay, but never knew where a pitch would land or get to me. Funnily enough I was great in the batting cages once I learned to time the pitching machine - consistent speed & placement, much easier! I faired a lot better in soccer, somehow, but running was boring so I never kept up between seasons plus processing where the ball goes+all the people was a similar struggle. I didn’t get past one jv season in hs. 😅 Ty to anyone who read all that lmao

My freshman year of high school was messed up because I was votech so there was 5 of us mixed with the seniors for gym. 😩 we played softball one day and every time one of us freshman was up to bat, they all chuckled and yelled "move in!" to the outfielders. Once in the 5th grade, I went skiing at Afton for a school field trip with my dad! I thought it would be amazing, because I had never tried it before, but I ended up getting stuck in place. Funny thing is I am pretty good at sports but I just can't force myself to touch a ball incase someone else wants the ball, so I just follow everyone and if I get given the ball the score suddenly goes up

As a guy from a small town, hometown games are more of a social event where I get to meet up with all my old friends when I come back for vacation or summer.

oh i viscerally feel the cross country skiiing thing. i was so bad at it that my class straight up left me behind in the woods once on a skiing trip so i just had to turn around and hobble back to the lodge and sit alone for like three hours lmao

When it comes to watching sports, i find i like watching the ones that i know how to play, so thats football and baseball. It can be exciting, or infuriating.
