It's always so fun to see you get discombobulated when you realize what a song from your childhood is *really* about.

Yep. I'm 48 years old. There is this song called "Afternoon Delight". Real eye opener when I became an adult...lol
Yes, more Christina! What a Girl Wants and Come on Over next. All these 90s and early 00s songs had sexual undertones. Today's music is just explicit for no reason lol
When she says "rub me the right way" she doesn't literally mean to rub her down there the right way. It's kinda like that saying, "that dude rubbed me wrong." She simply means for the guy to get on her good side...treat her right...and theyll be together...emotionally AND physically.

I think that's basically the way Christina would've justified it back then, yeah. Like, for example, Britney also said "I'm a Slave 4 U" was about being a slave to the music and, sure, for some, it might mean that, but the song and the beat and everything tell something else. And I think that's the same here. Christina could've even meant it that way, but because of how the lyrics are structured and honestly, also because of the music video and everything, it wouldn't be a far stretch to say they had the other meaning in mind when writing this song.
@raymondacosta4150
3 жыл бұрын
It has several meanings really. Also a third, rubbing the lamp the genie comes out of. It’s really cool how the song has layers to it, even though it’s a pop record.
Actually is ‘’hormones racing at the speed of light but that don’t mean is gotta be tonight’’ 🙈😂

@ArmchairFootballers

I remember being a 17 year old girl, and hormones racing was accurate.
The song is about making an emotional connection so they can make a physical connection. So, yeah. It's about sex. She wants to get her freak on but she doesn't want to give it away for nothing.
You know what I miss from the 90s and was too young to appreciate when we had them? Midriff bearing shirts.
I don’t think I’ve seen this much pearl clutching at one time in my life 😂
The whole lead up to, "Is she taking about sex?!" took me OUT 😂😂

He is completely clueless. Why she all in the sand and all that oh, well there's a chance that there's a reason for it and by golly there is a reason for it. I mean I think a lot of people know where Genie was found in the bottle on the beach waiting for someone to come along and set her free so she could come out and do her thing with her knight in shining armor. I don't even like that song but I get it.

Y'all she became 19 on December of 1999 and the song came out on June 1999, so she was 18!.
I don't why so many people say she was 19 in this video, she was 18. Genie in a Bottle was released in June 1999 and she was born December 1980.

Released in 1999. Awesome song. Priceless reaction. I was 24 when this song came out. Imma a Genie in a bottle.
I was 14 when it came out, and I already understood it meant desire to be with someone, but your gut and heart hadn't felt like it was a good idea. People rub ya the wrong way, you leave. Bad vibes are often correct. She's smartly waiting for someone to give off good vibes and "rub her the right way." 20+ years later, my interpretation hasn't really changed.
"Genie In A Bottle", "Want A Girl Wants" and "Reflection" are the top three songs my mom and me still sing together during our shopping trips, every since time. I think since I was 6 or 7. XD Not gonna lie, "Reflection" still makes us cry.

Billy realizing what songs are actually about kills me
LMAO 😂😂😂😂 Your reaction is hilarious!! Love it 🤣 I was 16 when this song came out so I knew what it was talking about back then.
My 10 year old self would sing along to this song without even thinking what the lyrics meant, I didn't even care what they meant at the time, it was just a catchy pop tune.
This song was a #1 Summer 1999 and she was born Dec 1980..so she was 18 years old ☺️but lets say something...this song makes some reference do The Genie from Aladdin and rubbing the lamp and The songwriters of this song were smart enough to play with too ideias...Works for kids..teens and adults
There is a version that says "you gotta treat me the right way" I think to play on Disney Radio maybe
I was 8 years old, summer 1999. I loved her so much. Singing this at top of my lungs. No idea what I was singing. Apparently nobody else did either 🤣 to be young and naive again.
Try 57 years old. But when I was a teen and a virgin was waiting for Mr. Forever. You know how you guys are, lol. This was Christina's first release straight out of the Mickey Mouse Club and in competition with Brittany Spears. Christina has proven herself since as one of the top female vocalists of our time.
react to Christina Aguilera’s official Music video of “Dirrty” featuring Redman this is an amazing song thanks!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I still yell at my mom for letting me sing this at the top of my lungs when I was a kid and her response is “well you didn’t know what it meant.” 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
i was 9 years old when this song came out and this was my jam lol and it came out in 1999 and Christina was 17 when she made this song lol and i feel like im a genie in a bottle lol
I was in 5th or 6th grade with this came out. Love Christina. Please do more. Her range is amazing.
so many guys were huge Christina fans, even if they disliked her music they were still huge fans.
The way he got to "is she talking about sex?!!!" Was the funniest shit ever lol just think, we all used to roller blade for hours with this playing in the background
Yesss Billy this came out in 1999 I was six years old 😂 we had no business singing this lmao
I was in college...I remember hearing it as I was driving to school one day.
I was 7 when it came out..and I would sing my little heart out to this song..once I got older I figured out what it was about I had to have a serious conversation with my mom about why did she let her 7 year old and 5 year old sing along to this song😂🤦🏻♀️

1999 she was about 17\18 years when Christina Aguilera released her breakout hit. a former mouseketeers too
I actually sang this song at an audition for a play in high school called "NTV - Normandy TV" (my school's version of MTV). Students were going to perform hit songs from all the generations; I was SO NERVOUS because I had to sing this in front of my crush - I was staring at the floor the whole time lmao.
I was in my 20's when this came out. I knew!
At the time Britney Spears and Christina broke out they were teenagers, they were on the Mickey Mouse Club together W Justin Timberlake also.
I was six when this came out. I'm the youngest of four kids. My middle sister was in high school when this song came out and I was always trying to follow her and her friends around. I remember being confused by this song and not understanding it. Years later I figured it out. Lol
i don't care how old this is it is still a hit and i listen to this album all the time
I was 6 when this song was released. At that age I didn’t know what it was talking about. As I grew up and started listening to these songs again I knew exactly what they were talking about. She was 19 when she released this song

He would know what they were talking about also if he would just listen. This came out my Freshman year of HS. I remember jamming to it in my swimming pool that summer. This song is a sexy bop!
Laughed so hard at this! Thanks for the joy during a rough week.
I definitely feel like a genie in a bottle 🤣
I was 9 when this came out and it wasn’t until way way later I realized what the song was about
Christina was almost 19 yrs old when she did this. This was the summer of 1999, and she was born Dec. 1980. So....she was a legal adult. Lol.
Christina Aguilera was 18 years old when this music video came out I believe this song came out between 1997-1998
This reaction...thank you, Billy. The sudden dawning of realization was epic.
we was under 10yrs old singing the chorus loud like hell!!! lmfao !!! i havent heard this since then. this revelation is the funniest shit i seen this year! hahahahahaaaa!!!

I was 11 singing and dancing to this song!!!!
This was on the first cd I owned which only had two songs on it. Genie in a body and what a girl wants
I still have these lyrics stuck in my head at least once a month lol.

Oh Billy your reactions are worth the watch.
"Shaggy- Angel!!!" A requirement for Millennial hour!
I remember the first time hearing this song again as an adult and I pretty much had the same reaction. LOL! I loved this as a kid and I had no idea the song is so raunchy. The "come, come, come on and let me out" part had me shaking my head the most. I couldn't believe she was lowkey singing about climax on that part. LOL!
I was almost 16 when this came out. Almost 38 now. This was my jam, been a huge fan of hers ever since.
Yes I’m waiting
When she first release this song back kn my teen days she became on of my faves along with whitney mariah and celine dion
