I'm 75 and starting to have problems remembering my name! Seriously, I always had problems memorizing things, so when I tried to memorize Scripture, I felt like a failure compared to others in my study group. But, I realized that knowing what the Scripture meant was where the value was. I no longer feel ashamed about my inability to quote chapter and verse. I do feel much closer to God through the understanding of His Word. Blessings everyone! :)

I have the same problem. I have ADHD due to having to get A's in school. I'd read a paragraph and forget what I read because in the back of my mind a voice is yelling you better get an A! I was told I have performance anxiety. I'm better now but nothing like those who are relaxed and absorb what they read.

I went through being so consumed with social media, and my electronics I lost the desire to read the bible, and never gave the bible time or much attention, and it was just a check off when I did read it, nothing serious. Well, I prayed and cried out to God to give me the love and desire for his word again, and he did! Im doing the chronological bible reading and loving every bit of it, and learning a lot. I thank Jesus for giving me a love to read and know his heart through reading his word again. All glory to him. Thanks for sharing.

i started reading it again too. this time i went in with the mindset of “what can i learn from this” rather than “i have to read this to gain God’s favor or else i’m sinning if i don’t” and a simple shift has helped me to appreciate it far more.

  • @millysmanifestations

    @millysmanifestations

    3 ай бұрын

@@chikomboreromujinga I no longer see God as a being that tallys up all of our sins and keeps track of everything we do that is wrong. This is what man made religion wants us to believe so we will be afraid and submit to this mindset of fear in order for them to gain control over us. I see God as infinite love and my greatest guide. Yes there is such thing as sin but God wouldn’t punish us for them. Sin is anything that pulls you away from your highest good or hinders your relationship with God. Like if you drink and get drunk all the time, that’s obviously going to impair your relationship with the divine because it’s damaging your mind body and spirit and you can’t reach your highest self that way. You will live in “hell” because behaviors like that will bring you suffering. But God is there always, patient and wants a relationship with you, it’s just up to us to want one with God as well. God understands the pain of humans (he became one) and so to punish us would be hypocritical. If no one were hurting, or if everyone was in their highest state of being there would be no sin or wrong only love. So I genuinely believe that you don’t have to follow any rules in order to gain favor with God because you already have favor. The Bible is just a tool for us to use if we want to use it to connect with God. We don’t HAVE to read it and we won’t go to hell if we don’t. (I suggest checking out the channel “Aaron Abke” on KZread, his videos have helped me a lot with this).

LOL, God doesn't want you to visit him out of duty. It's a living relationship. Just be honest with him. Ask him what he wants to say to you and just open your bible. It is his communication to you. Bible reading goes hand in hand with prayer. You don't want to do all the talking do you? God speaks to us through his Word. We should hear him too. That's all there is to it. It's not about fear and duty. It's just how relationships are done. Of course if you want a successful relationship with anyone, it can't all be one-sided.

Great video. Honest and to the point. One thing I want to comment is that once I started reading, I felt a little intimidated. I even told my pastor, "What's up with these chapters?" They like repeat themselves! But, now after about a decade into my faith, I finally get it. Reading the Bible isn't about becoming scholarly, but actually relating more to God and getting to know Him! It's like calling Him up, "Hey Dad..." And, the Word just pops and a "conversation" begins and soon enough, you feel weird not going to the Bible because He's your best friend, mentor, teacher, Father, healer, etc. etc. I thank God for coming after me with relentless love. If you read this message, know that Jesus loves you. Deeply. Be blessed.

This is a BRILLIANT video for beginners in Christianity. I am a new christian and this is exactly what I struggle with. We hear how other Christians WANT to read the Bibile - how they HEAR God and how they FEEL God so we start reading the Bible but then it gets difficult because it still feels like a chore in the beginning. This helped me realize that I have to be consistent and do it with purpose no matter what because THAT consistency will lead to something big. If I rely on my mood to decide IF I will spend time with God, then I won't. God says to 'carry your cross daily' - I have picked my hard for Jesus - I am reading my Bible consistently everyday. Excellent video - thank you!

It’s sometimes hard at first but if you keep at it even when you don’t feel like it after 2 or 3 weeks it becomes a good habit. Yahuwah bless you

Oh my goodness! I literally also just discovered the connection between Psalm 22, Matt 27:46 and Mark 15:34. What is also profound is that the Psalmist composed Psalm 22 to portray the posterity of Christ. When you really examine the words of the Psalmist, it becomes quite apparent that this is a prophecy, andddddd the Psalmist could have only gained such wisdom from the Holy Spirit. You are so right! The Bible is truly living, and it’s like any other book, it does not read from the beginning to the end. Everything book is connected to each other. Also, I completely agree. Even when you don’t feel like reading, READ. If you are struggling, ask God for help. Thanks for sharing!

I TOTALLY can relate to what you are saying. I'm 66 years old and I've got health issues which make me fatigued, tired, exhausted ALL the time! But even before my health issues began, I was always finding something else, anything else to do besides read the bible. It was always a difficult thing for me because I knew I wouldn't understand what I was reading. Sidenote: I did struggle in school with memorization and comprehension also, so putting the bible in front of me was like..."your kidding, right?". But as I got older, I realize that God is worth my effort and my time and my attention. So I just think about how he protects me, and feeds me, and shelters me, and I could go on and on ..., the least I can do is work on my relationship with him through his book and prayer. Thank you for giving me even more inspiration, little brother! 🥰

I have been struggling with the same problem (feeling like "I should" read the bible rather than really treasuring it) and then feeling guilty I don't have the passion to read it more. The way you describe it really makes sense, and I'm going to try turning it around like you suggest and invest some more time in the word. Thank you brother.

I agree with the tips here and I am doing what you have suggested. Still I want to praise you for putting together the list and describe n explain each point very well. I'd add that writing a journal on a word document is very helpful to me. When I look back at the dates and content with the Bible verses where God speaks to me, it really encourages me whenever i felt down and discouraged. Now that God has given me a lot of chances to share my testimony, it helps refresh my memory and make things a lot clearer to share too! God bless you

I have 2 Bibles (excluding the Bible app on my phone) and my thought process is if I leave them in different places that I frequent, I can use it as a visual reminder to spend time reading His word. So I have one in my car and one at home. Oh and if you have fairly thin pages, using tabs works wonders.

I'm reading it from the beginning....for me, it puts the pieces together as the books build and connect to one another. I'm in Ezra and it has never taken me so long to read a book but since this is THE BOOK, I'm not rushing it. I still struggle with focus and find myself re-reading certain phrases over and over again and then I move on to the next. I also read one or two chapters in Proverbs as well. My favorite so far is the Psalms where I feel God Our Father speaking to me directly and lovingly. You're an inspiration. Subbed. God bless and keep you.

Thank you so much for this video! This is so inspiring! I really know now (not feel) how to follow God in the context of the Scripture. It's been really hard for me to read Bible daily even though I've been with Him for more than a 6 months (I was born and raised in a Christian fam, but accepted God and Jesus Christ on the August, 13th, 2023). Hello from Russia btw! Федор Достоевский is actually a good one, but his books are a bit hard to understand. And we also have to read some of them in school

Thank you so much for this yes I sometimes feel like I dnt want to read my Bible but the Bible is God's way of communicating to us through his word. It's our personal love letters from God. This is how I had to explain it to my two boys. And everytime we read the Bible and then do our Bible study my youngest, who is 8 years old would say, Mum did you notice ever time we read a passage in the Bible the Bible study verse is the same. And I'm like Jah that's a direct straight from God. And I'm in ore of how the Lord speaks to us through His would so thank you my brother for sharing.

Amazing! 😊 Thanks so much for doing this video! 1. Really insightful to consider that we don't read the Bible only when we feel like it, but we read the Bible in order to feel like it, for it's God who grows our desire and passion for his word as we continue in his word! As I've heard some say, pray until you pray, so too read until you read, that is, read the word until the Spirit works in you the desire to read the word! 2. Also, speaking of seeing the Bible as a hyperlinked text, which is such a great way to put it, I absolutely love biblical theology which is in essence reading the Bible as the single story of redemption that it is along with many substories or subplots. I would highly recommend books like: God's Big Picture (Vaughn Roberts), God Dwells Among Us (Greg Beale and Mitch Kim), From Eden to the New Jerusalem (T. Desmond Alexander), The God Who Is There (Don Carson), The Serpent and the Serpent Slayer (Andy Naselli), The Dawning of Redemption (Ian Vaillancourt), Short of Glory (Mitch Chase), or for those who want a much longer and fuller discussion The King in His Beauty (Tom Schreiner). Any one of these books will show you how the whole Bible fits together - like what you said about seeing Jesus quoting Psalm 22 - and much more. May people be blessed to better read their Bibles and this better grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord by reading such books. 3. Speaking of praying the Bible, there's a good little book titled Praying the Bible (Don Whitney) that's very helpful here. 4. Finally I also love Dostoevsky's novels! In Russia, Dostoevsky is considered to have five great novels which are known as his "Pentateuch" - The Brothers Karamazov, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Demons, and Notes from Underground (which is more of a novella). Of course, I think the two best and certainly my two favorites are TBK and C&P. See the Russian literature scholar Gary Morson's relatively recent book Wonder Confronts Certainty: Russian Writers on the Timeless Questions and Why Their Answers Matter. I don't think Morson is a Christian, at least not as far as I am aware, but a lot of what he says is consistent with Christianity. Morson has also written a lot online that's currently available for free to read (such as on Commentary Magazine) and done interviews like on the Al Mohler podcast, the Chasing Leviathan podcast, etc. Morson likes Tolstoy best, but he also likes Dostoevsky and other Russian writers (e.g. Chekhov, Pushkin). By the way, I think it's very important to get the right translation when it comes to reading Dostoevsky. A bad translation makes Dostoevsky a huge slog to get through when in fact I find Dostoevsky utterly riveting to read; it's as if he grabs you by the throat in his writing. The most popular translation for Dostoevesky is either Constance Garnett or Pevear and Volokhonsky. Garnett has a lovely Victorian era style, but she's quite dated since she was published in the early 1900s. Also, she is known to have skipped entire passages that she didn't know how to translate as well as smoothed out knotty passages in Dostoevsky rather than letting Dotoevsky stand as is. Regarding P&V, see articles like: "The Pevearization of Russian Literature" (Gary Morson); "The Pevear/Volokhonsky Hype Machine and How It Could Have Been Stopped or At Least Slowed Down" (Helen Andrews): "Socks" (Janet Malcolm); and "Pevear and Volokhonsky Are Indeed Overrated" (John McWhorter). Currently each of these is available to read for free online. In my opinion, the P&V translation isn't terrible, Dostoevsky still comes through sufficiently enough, like light streaming through a foggy window, but I'm afraid it isn't a soaring translation either. Overall it's mediocre. For recommended C&P translations, I'd say Michael Katz if you prefer American English or Oliver Ready if you prefer British English. Both translations are first rate. For TBK, I'd go with Michael Katz again or the significantly revised Garnett translation which has been revised by Ralph Matlaw and Susan McReynolds Oddo in the Norton Critical Edition. I've also heard Ignat Avsey is very good for TBK, as is David McDuff, though Avsey and McDuff are almost polar opposites on the translation spectrum, with Avsey more idiomatic (like the NIV or NLT) and McDuff more literal (like the NASB).

Keep a Bible in the bathroom. Read it when you have the time, so to speak. It's surprising how much you can read at such times. Get an audio bible version and store it on your phone. Listen when driving. It's surprising how much you can go through when you do this regularly, even in the small chunks of time going to the store, work, church, errands, etc. Listen to your audio bible via phone when you're eating alone, doing chores that aren't too loud (vacuuming can be too noisy), etc. Put the audio bible on for 5 mins or so before going to sleep. Use a music player that has a sleep timer. I recommend the Psalms for this: it's so comforting and relaxing, and a great way to set yourself up for a restful falling-asleep.

You are on a good path. I would add a 1st tip, before all others, and that is to actually read the Bible, and repeatedly over a relatively short period of time. I was 24 when I started to read the Bible seriously. In 6 moths I read the NT, then the OT, and then the NT again. I was so far ahead of all the people at my back-slidden southern baptist church. They believed so much crap because they had never read the Bible for themselves. And to this day, most of them are still clueless. And the same goes for the calvary chapel denomination. You can't talk to them about the bible because most of them have never seriously read it, and that includes their current leaders like Jack Hibbs.

I started growing more when I started reading the Bible out loud. When you have to actually say the words, your mind can’t wander. The Old Testament can be rough at times, especially getting to all those names of who begat who. Not only could I not pronounce most of them, I lost track of who was who. This last time I started reading the Old Testament, I bought a pack of 12 different colored highlighters. In a conversation, I took different colors for each one speaking and hightailed the conversation. I took a highlighter and would enclosed a certain action or prayer. I divided up different sections in each chapter so they didn’t run together. I boldly highlighted certain important verses or revelations. I’m not finished and only in 2 chronicles, but I can’t believe how much easier it’s making the Old Testament to read and understand. When I flip through what I’ve already done, I can’t believe how well things stand out to me.
