Is it just me, or is it remarkable how well Hugh Laurie did his American accent back when he did the show? Hearing his native accent, aging a bit, and growing a beard, you would never guess he played Dr. House.

I’ve heard that the director(?) had wanted someone from the US for the role, Hugh auditioned with an American accent and the director(?) thought he was from the U.S.

The passage of time is a thing that happens to us all, but it's still so weird to watch old episodes of Blackadder and see how much older Prince George has gotten.

Hugh is one of a few.. Actors who I never would've guessed that they had a British accent because their character speaks spot-on, perfect American. Bob Hoskins and Christian Beale.. there's probably more.

The first thing i’ll notice when a guest comes in is if he or she will greet the band. That’s how i’ll know if they’re down to earth or not. Some guests treat the band like props and don’t acknowledge them. Hugh is class act.

Being as he’s a musician himself, he’s one of them. In his terrific series with Stephen Fry, Jeeves & Wooster, he’ll often be playing a song he’s composed & sing along with hysterical lyrics. Quite witty & talented.

You don’t know if they treated or met with them behind the scenes, you can’t judge someone’s character based on a seconds interaction of if they greet the band or not

@@IHHA99999 There is a value in 'publicly' acknowledging the band, regardless of whatever happens behind the scenes. He's confirming he's aware that he's sharing the stage and part of a multi-talented production, and not totally self-centered.
It really breaks heart to see our favourite person getting old!

If they ever remake Harry Potter- which they likely will, and soon,, Hugh would be a good call for Dumbledore; though my first choice would probably be Hugh's best friend- and former colleague, Stephen Fry, because of how great he was at voicing the character in the Harry Potter audiobooks. Can't believe they had on Hugh. Laurie, and didn't have him as their musical guest.
Knowing that Stephan Fry is his best friend tells you everything you need to know about this brilliant man.

Laurie is so talented with his quick British wit, his acting, and top all that with his music. ( Favorite being the New Orleans blues) That Colbert can ad lib like no other!! Love to see these two together more often. Now that he is back! Welcome.

Hugh’s super witty and funny. I miss seeing him on screen and on this type of interview.
I'm such a huge fan! The first time I saw him was of course in "House." Had absolutely no idea whatsoever he is a brit. Been watching his old British show with Steven Frye for quite awhile now and wow!, how he has aged since then. I know, we all do, it was just a breath taker seeing him now after watching his old videos on KZread just last night 🌙.

It's funny seeing Hugh turning into the neighbor in Home Alone
Tip: look for clips of Fry and Laurie. Classic sketch duo. Right up there with Nichols and May.
Thought it was David Letterman at first but then he spoke..I love Sir Hugh's voice.
I love this man, its crazy to hear his real voice still..His acting is amazing , his snarky House voice in perfect American accent..I was shocked when I first found out he wasn't American..this man is a treasure.
And yet, despite however small Hugh Laurie describes feeling in NYC compared to London …he remains larger than life to me, no matter what city in the world he might be 💕

I love how Laurie described new york... That's how I describe Hong Kong when I return there for a visit as a teenager after years of living in the States. I never returned after that because I thought new York was way more lay back than Hong Kong 😂

TotLly agree with his view/sense of NY. .that's how I feel..now I live in Italy so beautiful it's impossible to be intimidated.
All of the 19th and 20th Century dead musicians and philosophers who I could have loved fall to white noise behind Laurie's intriguing soul. He is perfectly mesmerizing, hilarious, and genius.
I LOVE Hugh, I just wish they'd put the date of these interviews on here...

"Why Didn't They Ask Evans?" is a very enjoyable story, and nowhere near as frustrating as The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. Don't get me started.

The Beard! It has made an appearance of its own! At first, I thought, "Oh No, he's gone Letterman on us!!" But, it grew on me and it fits him so well! Like a proper English Professor! I know ageing is an inevitable part of our life and I've always been scared of getting old. But when I saw Heartstopper last week, that fear started haunting me again. I'm in my mid 20s, yes, but seeing Hugh Laurie age, and seeing all the FRIENDS cast age, seeing my younger sisters age, and realising that I'm no longer the young child that I was, it brings a really really really lonely feeling. I'm so sorry for being emotional. But I just can't help it. I hope I could stay young forever. EDIT: October 29, 2023. MATTHEW PERRY!!!!!!!!!!!! 💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔 i still cant believe it

Hugh Laurie also did extensive work with Rowan Atkinson AND Stephen Fry. You should not have left that out, SC. Incomplete introduction. Not good. Mr Laurie seems to spend the whole interview APOLOGISING ! Yet being brutally British and honest. He's brilliant! 💎 M 🦘🏏😎

NYC is intimidating to a tourist. I remember visiting for a few days in the summer for the first time for college orientation and even though I had a family member who was a local showing me around the times I wasn't stuck at orientation, it was disorienting and a bit scary. During college however, I realized NYC is nothing like that. New Yorkers are actually quite friendly and helpful and as long as you know the parts of the city to avoid during certain times, it’s an incredible city to live in.
Hugh’s humility is awesome.
With the beard Hugh reminds me of the old man from the first Home Alone.
He is the greatest!
