'I needed to be a solo artist': Pete Townshend on new solo box set, The Who and more

Ойын-сауық

In an extended interview with Postmedia's Mark Daniell, Pete Townshend talks about the release of Pete Townshend Live in Concert 1985-2001, an expanded 14-CD Box Set and digital set featuring seven long-out-of-print live albums by The Who guitarist. Townshend discusses his 60-plus year on the stage and his future alongside singer Roger Daltrey in The Who. "We've always had a special relationship with Toronto," Townshend says. "We're hoping we can perform (together) again before one of us passes away." #petetownshend #thewho #celebrityinterviews

    Pete has always (for the most part) been an articulate interviewee. In earlier times although articulate I couldnt always understand what he was going on about. But nowadays he is articulate and very interesting to listen to as well. I thoroughly enjoyed his 'audible' autobiography spoken by him.

    Pete..... Mr Townsend..... everybody is lost and confused in their 30's.... They may appear to be confident... but inside they are quivering just like you and me... I feel sad that you found no joy in performing, although when I saw you in person it was at the Tacoma Dome in 89 and you hurt your hand pretty badly.... It was 20 years to the day of you playing Woodstock... and again, one of the most important dates in music history.. not just rock music but MUSIC... and you were there... a performer... one of the most popular bands in the world... and you couldnt enjoy what you were doing.... you have played many of the most important dates in history.... YOU made a difference in how the world is and always will be. You need to find happiness in that. I wish you luck.

    As a Who fanatic since 1970, when i did hear "See Me Feel Me" for the first time (very late at night) on the tiny little radio my father bought me, i am very sad that Roger Daltrey does not want to record a new album. He still has the voice and energy. They are both saying the need to find a reason and way to tour again, but what more could be so fullfilling that touring behind a new album?

  • @quad1000

    @quad1000

    Because there's absolutely no money in it anymore. And they don't connect on new material anymore. On Who, the last one, Daltrey didn't call Pete about the songs Pete sent him for five months. Then finally said he didn't "get them." Only money is in touring now. Even James Taylor said so himself.

Now, there are many artist with small but faithfull followers, like Marillion, Steve Hackett and IQ to name a few, that keep recording and releasing new albums on their own labels. They do sell 60,000 to 100,000 CD's or Lps and go on the road to sell their music and please their fans and themselves. Seems to me that there Is a untold issue bettween Daltrey and Townshend.

    For example - The Benefit Show for the Coumbian Natural Disaster is difficult to find as a VHS on the HENDRING Label that got a few thousand copies in the USA when it was released - but it's a treasure to see so... Look it up! The interview segment is sweet & he's serious about what he says & yet jovial at the same time w/a Dry sense of humor. A Rarity! The humor is also backed up with him strumming Acoustic to a_?_(I don't give it away, nor give it up 🤔. An interesting Show w/a fantastic Set list from the early to mid '80s w/Gilmour Touring 'Face' I think & a lot of people might be new to see/hear that entire Show, one track by a Duo but You've/One'd never heard of or thought would happen. To me, it's full of surprises by Chucho Merchan(sp-?) & the era available to lean on doing other things from & with others. Freshly.

    All of the Who were the Who. Pete was the best writer, yes. I love his songs. He’s always evolving as a guitarist. John was the “behind the scenes” guy and had one of the most innovative bass players. Keith was a drumming genius. It may seem like Roger had the voice and without it, he’d be nothing. Yeah, so many of these old rock stars did some pretty bad things with underage kids. It's crazy that none of them have ever been really held accountable and they definitely should. That said, I still enjoy much of their music and Pete's bokk was great. In the book he talks about the child porn and says he was doing investigation on it and not watching it for enjoyment lol hahaha. Sick fuck!!! Jimmy Page, David Bowie, Steven Tyler, MickJagger, and Pete have all been documented having sex with multiple underage boys and girls in the past. Somehow it's just passed over. Imagine if a normal person like you or I did that sick shit we'd be in prison forever as it should be I might add. @@pablocortando1

    @Bosworth123 I'm sorry, but no images were discovered in any devices of Townshend's, and no victim has ever come forward to claim they were abused. In his naive attempt to show banks are complicit in having their cards used for accessing child porn, he was caught up in the process he was trying to expose. Yeah, that was dumb. But you don't know Townshend. And to describe him as a monster without knowing a shred more than reading headlines is ridiculous.

    People like you will never see the facts. He was acquitted of all charges and the police officer that charged him personally apologized. Did he make a mistake, yes he admitted that but there was no child pornography on any of his computers or hard drives. Let it go, there is nothing there!

    - That whole thing was a load of BS. ANYONE that has those tendencies has a long history of it. It’s not something that can be turned off or on at will. Pete has always been a seeker of truth and was sure he was abused in that way as a child but couldn’t quite remember the details. After years of therapy he decided to just let it go and move on because he saw people who finally DID remember and ended up committing suicide. I don’t mean to be rude here but sometimes people speak out without much thought and that can be so dangerous.
