It was an honor spending some time with you bro! Thanks for hanging!
One day, jumps will just click for you. My wife and my brother kept telling me that I keep crouching on jumps, and I was like, "I'm crouching?" Turns out it was my attempts at scooping up the rear that caused it, so I just stopped trying to scoop up the rear at all and it suddenly clicked. After a little bit of practice and unlearning that bad habit, this is what I've come up with that has helped a few friends learn to jump: *At the appropriate trail speed, crouch down at the bottom of the lip and then push away from your bike and extend your arms and legs as you go up the lip until you look like a standing meerkat. DO NOT scoop up the rear or pull your bike up towards you. Only relax your arms and legs once you've achieved liftoff, NOT a moment earlier or you won't get enough air to clear the jump. This is what they mean when they say "Relax once you're in the air." or, "Be loose, don't stiffen up." Your bike will arch naturally without going dead sailor. After that it's just a matter of figuring out the timing of the whole thing with a bunch of repetition and practice.* A couple years ago, I thought I would NEVER figure out how to jump. I was convinced that I just didn't have it in me to be able to do it. I'm glad I kept trying though. I'm pretty comfortable on most jumps now. I'm not an expert by any means, but I know it's just a matter of practice and acclimating to different sized jumps and different shaped lips. I wouldn't ask a pro how to jump. They're rarely ever good teachers. They've been doing it so long that they have no clue how to explain it beyond, "You just jump, bro. It's easy." I'm rootin' for you Brian. I hope you read this and give it a real try. I look forward to the day that I'll see you clearing a medium sized jump comfortably. Best of luck friend.
A cool thing happened to me... Wal-Mart licensed a photo of mine of Choo Choo, back when it was still dirt! If you go to the bike accessories section in Wal-Mart you'll see it on the Ozark Trail brand bike products!

Great video! And it’s always great to see you enjoying Bentonville trails. We’ve got a really good thing going for sure 🤠 I’m looking forward to your Howler video!
So glad to hear that you’re safely back from Israel and back to riding. Great video! 👍
Nice to have you back in town!
17:00 One of my favorite trails/spots at Slaughterpin. Nice little burn connector trail to warm you up for the downhill. And when you get sick of making the ride back up to Jesse's the All American Jump line is right there waiting. Thanks for posting the video. Good to see the weather and trails looking so amazing. I may have to cheat on Lake Atalanta for the next few wkends and make my way over to Coler and Slaughter.
We were just in Bentonville over Easter weekend. Great weather and great riding. Always enjoy our trips down to NWA!
Great MTB town and great video. Thanks. My crew are booked for 1st week in October. Cannot wait!😃🤙
I was in Bentonville for year and half and this is the trail that got me into MTB.
Glad you made it back safely. At 18:46, I half-expected to see Dementors coming for ya!
The early Choo Choo, like 15 years ago, was a lot of fun. It eroded over the years. Looking forward to checking out the new work, it looks like they increased the burms and smoothed it out a substantial amount. Thanks agian.
Headed there and Eureka Springs tomorrow, fist time, so psyched!!
Great video. Thanks for all you put into these KZread productions.
I’m on my first trip to Bentonville and came back to where I’m staying to see this in my feed. I was just on Moo Moo and Choo Choo yesterday. 🙂
Who wants to see Remy Métailler teaching some jump skills to Brian ? 😊

Moved here last summer. Such a fantastic place.
For jumping think about jumping on a trampoline. Transfer those body mechanics to jumps. Think of the transition of the jump like it's the mat and springs of the trampoline. You have to put energy into the mat and springs to get into the air. Same thing with a jump.

That’s a good way to put it, he never pushes or pulls up when jumping, not much rider input. When you watch most riders that huck they seem to lift up with timing?
@TyBaumMTB
Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, it's very similar to a trampoline. Honestly, people can talk technique through the roof but keep it simple and build up the size and style of jumps. The people who are really good at jumps learn by hitting some ghetto dirt jumps as kids until we figured it out, hundreds of reps.
Those are some fantastic trails, Brian! Awesome therapy, man🚴♂️🤜🤛 I wish I had some of these in Romania 🇹🇩😊
So jealous. Just left there a week ago. Place is incredible!
I bought the Landwave ramps and the MTB Hopper Pro that Rich Drews uses in his classes. I am still a 1.5 jumper out of 10 but I am not afraid like I used to be and slowly getting better at not squishing the jumps like you were talking about. Hope to see you and Rich work together again.
Awesome as always. I’ve never seen that Rotten to the Core trail.
Jesse’s Last Stand and Rotten to the Core are two of my favorites! Can’t believe you haven’t done em before, but there is sooo much to ride in bville it makes sense 😅
Crazy to hear a Californian comment about Arkansas realestate!
Brother. It's time to take another Trail techniques class. Time to revisit. Ians entire methodology is way more simple and easier to digest and works way better. I just had a bad day at jumps made me want to give up on dirt jumps and his synopsis of what I need to work on is so dialed it's giving me confidence to revisit them again.
You are the first I’ve heard not just raving about the new transmission. It’s actually a bit refreshing because up until now it’s been all glowing reviews by every channel that has one. The problem is, they are all sponsored and/or SRAM dealers that are doing the huge media push saying it’s the “next best thing.” One thing is for certain, SRAM’s marketing department is absolutely killing it on the launch of their new product. It will be nice to see more real, everyday people buying and using it to give their perspectives over a longer period of time.
@EMBIKES

that all sounds good until the part about real everyday people owning them. What everyday person is dropping $1500-2k on a drivetrain??
@MikeOn2Wheels

@@EMBIKES well not me, unless they start hitting the used market for cheap haha. However, lots of people must be buying all these $10k super bikes or else they wouldn’t keep making them more and more expensive. So I suppose those people will start using them in the real world and start giving their feedback.

I feel your pain. Not even a mediocre jumper myself. I always feel like my garmin is mocking me with it's "nice jump" chime.
Love that place
I Just remembered that I saw Sarah at a couple of NORCAL NICA races volunteering. Tell her the NICA mtb community says Thanks
awesome trails!
So far, I am loving the transmission. I got the alloy version.
It always surprises me when Brian messes up some jumps then absolutely rails a corner
welcome back to gnarkansas!
Not sure your travel plans but if you come to Grand Junction soon “the bike shop” should be able to dial that transmission in for ya. I worked there from 2022-2023, trust me on this those boys can wrench.
Bella Vista is WAY more affordable. Just bought a house there and move in next week. So STOKED! Hope to see you out there!
@user-cq6xu6rz3h

And you still have trails right outside your door or not very far in Bella Vista! They are building a new WMT campus to house all their people, it's even going to have a Marriott hotel on campus. Older somewhat rundown home, especially those close to the new WMT campus that are between 1k-1.5k square feet are selling for between $500k-$1million dollars depending on how big the lot is. Plus many of those lots have the 3-story residential code. They are razing the old and building million+ dollar homes and they have no problem selling them. The amount of progress in Bentonville has been unbelievable over the last 15 years. They want it to be a ski town, but for bikes!
Nor Cal and the Bay have a bunch of great parks to skill up at. What's better about jump lines instead of trails is the you can get 10 more runs in on a jump line then a trail. 1. Stafford Lake Park in Novato 2. Dirt World in Richmond 3. Elk Grove Bike Park 4. Auburn Bike Park 5. Truckee Bike Park 6. Incline Village Bike Park (my favorite) 7. Bijou Bike park in South Lake Tahoe Best jump trails (imo) Hoot and Scott's Flat in Nevada City off hwy 20. They just did the Dirt Days Festival there on May 6th, 2023
Tight. Ima go back here in a few weeks i think. Its cool, but all too tamed down. lol. No gnarly jumps or real free ride lines im aware of. Ill hit. Mt. nebo too tho. That DH is pretty fun!
@BKXC @BrianKennedy They recently held time trials up the outside of the 6-story Ledger Building with a lot of spectators on the course. It was pretty cool! The Ledger also has bike storage (my friend with an office there keeps his bike there full-time) and it also has a really cool shop called the Specialized Experience Center with great people working there.
Great Therapy. 🚲🚲Indexing video and/or keeping the trail title on screen would make this video prefect.🧐
If you've switched drivetrains and the same cog has an issue it sounds likely its a chainline issue. Try altering the bottom bracket spacers .
I was viewing and had to leave the room for some time... anyway, I get back and KZread has continued to play videos. I come back to around the 12:15 mark of the "She’s RIPPIN’ and I’m SLIPPIN’ 🇺🇸 50 STATE SHRED: GEORGIA". I didn't realize you'd met your wife up at Mulberry Gap.
If you look outside of downtown BVille the real estate pricing is actually not bad. Especially compared to CA. Would love to have y’all out here!
INSANE brooooo!!!!!!
Are you in Bentonville now??? We are about to have our MMB Bike Week!
Stand up to the jump! And finding trail speed
Brian should do a series dedicated to learning jumping. He needs dedicated practice so it becomes second nature. Otherwise it's always starting from the beginning
Welcome back to the midwest, and Mo. Keep in touch. Say hi to your wife from Uncle Scott

Evan from saga channel needs to teach Brian to jump. He has called him out in the past for not knowing how to jump and he lives in Bentonville now.
At this point, you should just move here to Bentonville

my new pivot shuttle came with those same shifters ... bluetooth. It's new and working really well, but the demo bike had regular good old mechanical shifters. I'm afraid of things going wrong too. I didn't get the memo that this was coming on the bike.... I guess I'll give it some time. Great inspiration Brian... seeing you shred all over the world.

Glad to hear it! They have done studies on where people are from who ride in Northwest Arkansas and one study said nearly 50% are from out-of-state. There are just SO many riders here with a metro population of ~575,000 residents.
How are you finding the new sram pod shifter compared to the old style?
my jumps are horrible too. i used to be wreckless until i wrecked. lol
How are you liking the new shifter pod for the AXS rear derr? I found the previous two versions kinda of odd.
21:56 is that a hint at your next bike seeing as no more Ibis after your current one 🤔
Shimano makes the best drivetrain, never have to think about it

Super nice Velosolution pump tracks in Bentonville, Rogers and Springdale at the Jones Center.
I think i will stay with wires forever. They just works. I change them maybe once per 2 years and that's it... or as some people usually say "pain changing the wires" but man... you do it just once in a long time.
Will you be in Bville for Bike Fest?
Great alternative for SRAM: Shimano ;)
Bummer to hear about the Transmission issues especially at that price. You mentioned not having access to a bike stand on the road, have you ever considered building a hitch mounted bike stand setup for your van? Shouldn't be difficult to do at all and a pre-made solution may already exist and will make things a lot more convenient on the road while being easy to break down and store.

I think he meant when traveling abroad....by air.
At this point I think you're best bet is to invest in some coaching. The jumping doesn't seem to be progressing but I'd bet one of Anneke's clinics would progress your jumping a thousand percent in just a day.
Love my town, but homeownership is TOUGH. Especially moving from elsewhere. NWA is all around inviting! Have you looked at Fayetteville property?
I'm still new to mountain biking. Fortunately, Bentonville is a 4 hour drive for me. So It's reachable for me. So it would be lovely to get some practice.

Yeah bentonville real estate is extremely expensive. Surrounding areas are a bit better like bellavista or gravette. Or venture up into the southern edge of Missouri and find a little land for a reasonable price. I’ve got 8 acres just over the Missouri line, and it’s only 17 minutes from my driveway to slaughter pen.

If only you had a plot of land where you could build your own jump trails to practice on.
Maybe it’s your suspension setup either got bumped over time or isn’t set up right that is causing your jumping to be off, I’ve had that happen before and it makes a difference. Might be something you mess around with. There is a guy that rides my local downhill trails with way too fast of rebound that has no idea how close he is to crashing every time he jumps and he hits the big jumps that way, I just don’t know how to tell him he has been jumping wrong this whole time!
