Holy hell, I feel you on this. I have a small, rediculously cute dog. She's a puppy mill rescue with some associated trust issues. Aside from me & my family, she's completely unpredictable as to if she'll instantly love with a new person, or be horribly terrified. When I lived in Manhattan, people came up to us ALL THE DAMN TIME wanting to hold her, pet her. Often they didn't even bother to say anything to me, they'd just "Awwww look at you!" and instantly start bending down to touch her. And if I asked them not to it was either a lengthy discussion with a stranger I didn't have the time or desire to speak with, or they got all upset & offended. They didn't know a damn thing about me, my dog or what she's gone through, SO rude!! Got to the point I'd wear headphones (often without music) and shades, so I could pretend I hadn't noticed these people & keep moving. Just one reason of many I was happy to move away from there.

That's the worst part about it, these people who claim they love dogs actually don't give a fuck about dogs. If a dog wouldn't like their interaction or wouldn't want to be touched, it wouldn't even cross their mind because to them every dog wants to be touched. That's how stupid these people are, they don't consider anything else but their selfish desires. Manhattan sounds like an even worse nightmare than what I have now. I could have never imagined how terrible it was to simply get a pet because after doing so you see how many terrible people there are that have pets as an accessory or toy. They don't care about their well being and these dogs often die because of neglect. I was kinda nervous to post this because I was bitching and complaining, but I feel very strongly about my hate towards these types of people.

I don't have a pet and I never touch other people's pets. I can't stand it when people show overwhelming interest towards other people's pets and kids. Big crowds of strangers always make me uncomfortable and thanks to online shopping I rarely go to malls. Funny you mentioned Yellowstone. It's my favorite place in the US. Montana is BEAUTIFUL. You'll definitely enjoy living there. I too enjoy solitude and can only take small doses of people at a time. My dad is a super extrovert and he thinks I'm super lonely, which I'm not, and seriously depressed.

Thank you so much for sharing. Sometimes I feel like people who don't own pets would find it very hard to understand my frustration with this. My goal with Rylai was always for her to exist around humans, just because she's there does not mean that someone should be hyper focused on her. For some reason, this is an impossible concept for almost everybody. Apparently the idea of admiring without physical contact is too difficult to understand. What I think I convey very poorly isn't that people are idiots for wanting to touch everybody's dog, but they're idiots because of HOW they go about addressing this desire of theirs. Even though I've only had Rylai for ~2.5 years, when I didn't have a dog I wouldn't just see a dog in public and expect to approach and touch. That was just not something that ever crossed my mind. But the way these people handle it with complete disregard for the owner is blatantly rude and in my opinion deserve to be met with extreme hostility. I actually think I wouldn't mind being around people at all if they acted towards others with respect. Huge crowds though I'll absolutely agree with you that it just automatically dampens my experience a ton. In a lot of cases, there's just no need to interact with another human, but if you choose to then you better make sure you consider the other person as well. In all of the situations I've been in involving Rylai, I have rarely been shown respect which is why by now I just have such a strong hatred for these people. When I flew with her to Vancouver, I was really on my guard at the airport, but there were still people who had brief conversations with me where I felt like I could let my guard down because they demonstrated focus on actually conversing with me instead of conversing with me as a means to get to her. This whole discussion of where I'd ultimately want to live is so challenging because I've never actually experienced the isolation of Montana. I strongly feel like I would love it there, but the long winters might be challenging. Hopefully your dad doesn't consistently nag you about the lonely thing, my parents still occasionally don't accept it when I tell them I'm happy with the way I choose to live.

I agree with you, i have the same problem with my dog and not only with ppl. Ppl always want my dog to interact with there dog and i cant stand that. My dog dont care about other ppl or there dogs, he is totaly focus on us and that is how i want it. I just find it rude.

Exactly! People just have this completely ignorant belief that everyone with a dog wants to be friends and have their dogs be friends. No, leave us alone. If you tell them something that is not what they're used to hearing, then they don't respect your choice half the time. I'm done being polite to these people.
