In case you didn't know: the reason why the Wii has GameCube backwards compatibility and the reason why the Wii U is backwards compatible with both is because they all run the same type of processor, each generation simply being more powerful than the next. In essence, it's like upgrading your PC but still being able to play PC games from ten years ago.

Limiting the scope of one's rom collection is key. Dump titles legally when you first feel like playing them and then keep them around to be picked up again. Otherwise you'll get super overwhelmed. Have an organisational system for it on your computer so you can easily search titles, categories, etc.

You forgot the complete sets of games for NES, SNES, GBA, and Genesis. Just need to install the emulators plus channel forwarders and the game files can go on either the hdd or the sd card.

My favorite part about the wii usb loader gx is that you can still play wii games with gamecube controller support, where as the wii u you cannot use the adapter no matter how much you try. Somebody should do an update to the vwii to make the gc adapter work on wii games for usb loader gx.

So Im able to use the adapter on my Wii u for GameCube games. I even have the games on the menu on my Wii u. It's a pain in the ass using a virtual console injector for it tho lol. Before you launch a GC title, disconnect the USB adapter and wait till game starts to plug it in. It's weird and a pain in the butt work around but it works for mine. Hope this helps some how.

Are you using a harddrive or a flashdrive? When using a flash drive I noticed it only allows you to look at one group of games from that kind of menu and I had to do some additional coding to get it to even read the wii games, and on top of that it won't let me burn my own copies onto it. I'm still able to play my Gamecube Roms, but only from a separate menu.

I bought a Wii off marketplace last year and modded it. You'll probably need to take a day to mod it. It is somewhat time consuming but in the end it's worth it. You'll be able to play ANY Wii, GameCube, PS1, SNES (and more) you want! There's weeks where I play my Wii more than my ps4 and switch. Tbh it's just nice to have

I love talking about home brewing so sorry got 3 of my comments. None of my friends are into modding so I just have to keep it all to myself 🤣 it seems complicated but think of it like this. You're modding your Wii so it can read games from a USB Drive, that's it. You can also add emulators and more. Hell there's even Wordle and Flappy Bird on there. So there still is currently a dedicated home brewing fan base. If you're a retro gamer and don't wanna spend hundreds of thousands of dollars then I recommend going a wii. It can play just about any system except PS2 and Xbox.
