Noticed on the last one you weren't educated on modding based on the comments, and I wasn't before today lol, so it's cool seeing you do a follow up with more information! I appreciate your honesty and openness. I'm terrified to mod my things. I really struggle with anxiety around things I don't understand and one of my biggest problems learning things on electronics is that instructions don't care to tell you what's actually happening. What I mean by that is they may say copy this and move it to here and change this then re-save and move it back. And other people seem to be ok to just like follow the instructions and do it. But for me... It sends me into a swirling spiral of what even are computers and how does electricity function and who figured this out in the first place and WHY are these the steps and WHAT even am I doing? But for tech people who do it all the time, they're just like "it doesn't matter, it works, it's easy". But everyone's experience is different and we learn differently and at different rates. Idk why sometimes people can be gatekeepy when people enter the game or conversation late. If we break down the things that make it scary, more of us can have fun together ☺️ Anyway, nice video!

    Thank you so much for making this video man. There are lots of games I've lost over the years, and hearing that the eshop was closing sent me into a panic. I would love to get back all of those games I'm missing, but I just don't have the money to spend on something like that. When I heard everyone was modding their 3ds systems I was instantly hooked, as well as terrified. My 3DS is one of the few things I have left from my childhood and losing it would be devastating. I'll hopefully be going off to college soon, and I would love to take it with me to ensure I keep the kid in me alive. I've never modded or hacked anything, so all of this is really scary. Nonetheless I'm still gonna give it a shot. I'll be sure to give an update after I've worked everything out. I got a new battery for my 3ds 2 months ago after it was collecting dust for years. While it was cool to get my childhood videogame system up and running again I knew still wasnt going to play it much anyway. I decided to yolo it and try to mod the thing and give it some new life. It was nerve-wracking since I basically grew up with it and I didn't want to ruin it but it was a really good decision in the end. Even though I won't play through all of the games I downloaded just because I couldn't have them as a kid, I've been playing through a few and honestly I think that its nicer than letting it go straight back into a box to collect once again. And putting custom themes and custom homebrew apps and stuff is just kinda fun on its own once you get past the stage of being nervous about it. Using it at all its better than forgetting about it again.

    I am definitely NOT a tech nerd, but the 3DS guide is so simple, I had no trouble following it as the methods have changed over the years. I bought a JP N3DS LL off of eBay since US models are stupidly expensive right now. I do have a couple of US N3DS XLs that I bought and modded some time ago, but one of them had the ABXY buttons all but completely stop working unless I press down really hard and the other one had the right speaker stop working. So I decided to start fresh. The 3DS guide helped me to get that JP 3DS hacked and then region-changed to NA since JP 3DSs don't have an option to change languages like other regions do for some inexplicable reason. It also showed me how to back up the original NAND before the region-change just in case something goes horribly wrong. As for Homebrew, the hShop is just a small part of all the things you can get into. The hShop does have a large selection of GBA games that you can put on your 3DS, and the best part is that your 3DS will run them natively since every 3DS has GBA hardware inside of it. One Homebrew I recommend is the Universal Updater as it is a 1-stop-shop for nearly all 3DS, DSi, and NDS Homebrew. This also allows you to download updates for any homebrew you may have, if there are any updates to be found. Two VERY useful homebrews can be downloaded from Universal Updater: 1. Twilight Menu ++. This homebrew allows you to run DS games on your 3DS from your SD Card. It also works with DSiWare as well. This homebrew app mode runs in DSi mode. 2. FTPD. This homebrew allows you to transfer files wirelessly between it and an FTP Client on your computer, such as FileZilla. Transfer speeds are not the fastest, but it is still faster than taking off the back plate of your N3DS XL to get your SD Card out, doing that whole thing on the computer, and then putting the SD Card back into your system and putting your back plate back on again. There are still many more homebrews out there which can allow you to give your 3DS a bit more personality, or even to just have fun with.

    Modding 3DS has kinda become a hobby of mine. I started with an old 3DS that was just sitting on a shelf. I modded it and got hooked! I decided to step it up and get a Japanese 3DS XL (LL). It is way cheaper than an American version. I thought I would mess the Japanese 3DS on every step, but to my surprise, it was surprisingly simple. Now I am loading up this bad boy with everything. I'm seriously considering getting a New 3DS LL or a Japanese PSP next.

But the fact that it supports GB GBA NDS 3DS NES and SNES is amazing. But I reommend looking up a guide how to install NES and SNES those are a different case and you will need a separate homebrew app for it. After this I got the confidence to mod my wii and so i did now playing gc games and wii games I want on the wii is easyer then ever. Thank you for not trying to explain how to do it! A PSA is really all that you can do with the modding guide constantly changing. I’ll say this, right now is the easiest time to mod your 3DS before the shop closes. After the closure you may lose the chance to do this mod unless you already have a couple things installed. An internet connection is required for some parts of the mod, and a PC/Mac that can read SD cards and then that’s it.

    I will also say this, I hope one day this channel grows to the point where you can make it your full-time gig. I know a lot of folks try to get there - myself included - and fall short when it matters most. Keep capitalizing on this wave, make more videos pertaining to the 3DS or homebrew in general. I bought a New 3DS XL during the pandemic (never owners one before) and modded it. At first, I was just looking for something to do but it quickly became one of my most used systems. When that thing is modded, you can load so many generations of games onto it. Plus, the form factor is just awesome. I love the design of the thing. I modded mine last week in preparation, wasn't hard but it did take a long time. I expected some better sales in the eshop but everyone is holding out, same few games on sale on and off the past year, monster hunters and Phoenix Wright. I think Nintendo plans on porting most of these over so the $20 windwaker hd will be a $50 switch release soon and then others will be part of their paid service. That kid icarus game I almost bought and passed it up. Then the prices went up and i regretted not getting it. Then it seemed like a huge stock of them was found and they were all over amazon and ebay for $30 not that long ago and I again waited too long and they are now back up to crazy prices.

    Liked the video, I agree that the guide you referenced is easily the best method to mod your 3ds. As far as the SD card goes, you’re right that you’ll have to take it in and out a bunch for the initial set up, but after that you can just leave that sucker in. Which was honestly a deal breaker for me. Use the hshop for as much as you can, and for all the other things, once you get the initial custom firmware on your DS, just set up an FTP program. I didn’t even know what that was before I hacked the 3ds, but I downloaded one program on the 3ds itself and FileInstaller on my pc, and now I can move any file I need to back and forth without taking out the sd card. And if you have a New 3ds XL, you ain’t gonna wanna take that sd card out repeatedly after the initial set up. Seriously, just use FTP. It just opens up your 3DS as another file window and you can drag and drop files as you need to it. Of. Of course you gotta be slightly patient for transfer speeds for larger files, but I would much rather wait a couple minutes than I would remove the backplate over and over. Keep up the good content my friend 🤙

    When you said you have kids and work , uff that hit hard . I also had to wait until 11 pm and speed run the hacking . The possibilities : you can not only download games , dlc, or bugs repair, you can also play games from the Gba, PlayStation , Sega , you can change the background of your 3ds . The only sad thing about this is that the supply of 3ds will drop hard and I can imagine in 10 years getting a 3ds will cost you half a month worth of pay. I recommend everyone to also buy this lost of things you need to have for the next 20 years : Screen protectors 1-2 batteries to replace in 5-10 years a pack of 3ds touch sticks . A protector for your 3ds A joystick protector, they break easy And last but not least , another 3ds .

Also if I were to download games off of these mod apps n such would they stay on their like any digital game without issue or would their be problems? By the way, it's not "over" if you haven't used your funds in the eshop. Your balance of funds is shared between the 3ds/WiiU/Switch accounts. You can use any leftover funds on the Switch's eshop. Unless you don't have and never plan to get a Switch, leftover money on your account can still be used.

    If the SD card is bigger than 32gb you need to format it to FAT32 format, then you can just drag and drop the files from your old Sd card to the new one

    I wanted to ask: I've been putting off modding my device because I'm not tech savvy and i don't want to destroy my 2DS. The eShop closes on the 27th, and i wanted to know if one must mod before that time or if it's still possible afterwards? I just want to know so i can plan ahead and do it in the next few days. I'm just so terribly nervous. And is a 32GB enough space for a 2DS? I only got my first nintendo device last year and haven't had the budget to really build a library, so im not entirely sure how much space is advised longterm

    Hey thanks for your question, I was in the same boat! Really scared to do it, but it was worth it. And you can do it after the shop closes too. Most of the exploits don’t require you to download anything from the eShop. 32GB is fine, but a full size 3DS game is a little over 1GB each. Not all games, but most of the big name ones. I’d highly recommend 64 or 128 for sure, long term.

    @@coolbeans5911 My SD card was automatically FAT32 when I purchased it, however there is conversion software available should your card not be. I myself would recommend a 64 GB or higher SD card (Mine was ten dollars), however a 32 GB card will work just fine. (My 3DS card was only 4 GB, crazy how much technology has advanced)

    How do I transfer my data from my original SD card where I have all my games and data to the new SD card where there’s more GB and modded

  • @retroperfection81

    @retroperfection81

    Жыл бұрын

    Great question. As long as you don’t reformat it, you won’t need to move you data. It will stay the same and should be unaffected with the mod. Mine wasn’t affected at all and maintained all my saves and data I had on the original card. But it sounds like you will need to move your data, not retain it. So I would look on the 3DS.hacks.guide site and check out the forums. It’s probably easy, but those guys are the experts over there.

    I was in the same situation. Obviously you need to make sure you’ve downloaded all your purchased games by the 27th. But then you can use that SD card to mod your system as well. It shouldn’t have any effect on downloaded games or saves - it didn’t on mine. A lot of online play functions are not run by Nintendo for non-Nintendo games, so they will be unaffected. Eventually those developers will shut down the ability to play online on those games, so make sure you’re keeping up with the news on the games you play.
