I missed this in my CFD geometry workflow for OpenFOAM simulations for years. This is how I fix it.
In this video I tell you the story how I fixed my #geometry workflow for #CFD simulations in #OpenFOAM using the open-source tool #blender.

Thank you Jozsef! A while ago I discovered Blender for animations, but I did not know about its use case for OpenFOAM CAD editing. Now, I can combine two wonderful open source tools.

Brewer and learning CFD for seeing what is happening and hobby, thanks!
I'll admit i was looking for a good documentation source on OpenFOAM a while ago, found your channel, subscribed and then thought: All of this is too complicated, why is there no unified editor ? Why do I then have to manually edit the script and reference every mesh by name? ... and so dropped the matter. With this one video you've resolved all of those issues and more. Having the quick key shortcuts for translate/scale on screen and (almost) the full flow means I'm actually confident enough to give this another shot. You could probably make another high-level "quick intro to openfoam" video that integrates this as well as the basics for people that haven't heard of this yet, but this video is eye-opening by itself. Final thought: This is probably the first time that i've seen on youtube where such a click-bait sounding video title of "Don't miss out on this" is 100% justified. Good job!

I am glad.
One thing about OpenFoam that makes it feel more complicated is that the tutorials give you the impression that there's a ton of things you need to address to create a project. One simple fix would be this: Stop calling them tutorials, and start calling them templates. They aren't even tutorials anyway. They are template projects.

Hi Jozsef! Could you make a video on how to monitor mass and volumetric flow rate with function objects on already existing patches? Seems an easy task but I couldn't find any clear information online. That would be very nice, thanks for everything you do!

Great video! I'm a CFD noob but have been using Blender for a long time. It's only in more recent years that I've been able to use it more commercially. I have a noob question! Could using a Blender sub-surface modifier to smooth sharp-edged geometry (such as the corners of a room) enhance the CFD meshing?
Wish I could know this during my PhD. It was painstakingly painful to go from proprietary Geometry making tool to openfoam meshing. And on top of that, geometrical domain was 10 times more complex than this one.

I would say the locations of the points and lines of the stl file have a effect on the finial mesh topo
Great video...can we import any VTK files in Blender?
Thank you very much for your efforts done so far, I newly started learning OpenFOAM. Can we draw a complicated structure like (Piano Key Weir or Lybrinth Weir) in Blender? or we should draw it in AutoCAD and import to Blender.

It depends on your preference. If you prefer AutoCAD then go for it!
Hi, I designed a concept vehicle in Blender (mesh with sub-surface). Is there any way I can do a CFD with say 90% accuracy within Blender or OpemFOAM? Ideally it would compute on my machine (Mac). Thanks for the video!

I am not sure about blender, but OpenFOAM can do it. Yes. You can install OpenFOAM on Mac, but I have zero experience with the bitten apple. Sorry. I know several people who use OF in Mac though. The OF part will come in my next video.
Hello sir, I have a doubt, can I use Solidworks instead of blender? Thank you...
I do wonder what the benifet of this is vs just using FreeCAD's cfdOF tool to name faces and the meshing tool in it?

Also does a program like Fusion 360 have similar functionality or does Blender allow for more ability to create meshes?
Hi Jozsef, please made video coupled simulation of PFC and openFOAM
I hate blender, just couldn't be bothered manipulating that pointless cube when I had CAD software to produce my files. After watching this tho, it seems useful (begrudgingly!), for what I need. I have created a 3D .tif file in Matlab from CT image slices, and I need to convert to a .stl file and name the faces, inlet and outlet. I have imported this file into Paraview, but do you recommend that I convert the geometry file to an stl file in paraview, and then transfer to blender, or could I just slice up the deometry in Paraview instead and export individual .stl files?
Please do a tutorial on how to pull an entire CFD animation from paraview into blender! I can't get any of the scripts I found online to work!
@OpenFOAMJozsefNagy
Жыл бұрын
You can't pull the entire animation, because paraview only loads one time step at a time. This means, that it also only exports files per time step. Do you need a script in paraview, which exports all time steps and an import script for blender.
