I met Amber & Paul in Poland. They’re housing 40 Ukrainian Refugees.

Ойын-сауық

Amber and Paul live in a home that’s been in their family for generations. They were using it to host meditation retreats until the war came. Now they’re providing good and shelter for 40 Ukrainian refugees. They’re also doing everything they can for them.. taking them to the doctor, teaching Polish and English lessons, helping with documents if they choose to move to another country. There are elderly guests and special needs children.
I feel in my heart what they’re doing is sacred.
They’ve started a foundation to help with the expenses. They’re worried about making it through the winter. If you feel moved to help, know that it’s going to a beautiful cause.

This is very deep, powerful video highlighting special people such as Amber and Paul. Bev - the author of this video is also a special person since she cares for Ukrainians living , trying to stay afloat in Poland with high degree of compassion. I also relate to this story because my good friend from high school in Poland, hosts in his house about 13 Ukrainian refuges or as he calls them: guests and friends. My high school friend Sławek who hosts Ukrainian guests is not wealthy by any means but has a kind heart full of generosity. My wife and I have been helping him and were able to raise considerable amount of $ among our American and Polish friends for his Ukrainian friends.

We have followed daily praying for the end of this tyranny take over. Thank your friends for their kindness and compassion. In a world where War (and the threat of War) are just two more pawns in a game played on Wallstreet, I'm glad you were able to experience, first hand, the effects it has on real people. It bears little resemblance to the Hollywood version. I'm a tough old bird. I've raised 9 kids and served 2 tours in combat Infantry in Vietnam but I have to admit, I teared up a little when you did. What you said (and what Amber wrote) took me back to another world. My son asked me, when he returned from Iraq, "How long does it take for it to 'go away'?" I knew exactly what he meant and I told him, "35 years...so far." That was a few years ago. I know your time in Poland has changed you for good and for ever. Thank you, Bev, for sharing this. Best of everything to Paul, Amber and the lot. Just sane... :^) Saint

Over the centuries of wars, how many people have had to flee their homes forever and start over? Uncountable numbers, each of them having to muster so much courage to follow through and fight to not just survive, but thrive. For those of us who have never had to do that, we can hear the stories yet remain removed. I was touched by your tears, Bev - the diary stories in themselves were very moving. And then I realized you met the people you were reading about, and that brings their stories up close and personal. Thank you for bringing people in the "sacred place" to us.

Bev, I am Polish born and educated and later become an American. First of all it is unbelievable for me to see you in my Poland ;). I liked your channel but I never thought you were open to travel that far :). I would like to make some correction to what you said , Nazis were only in American movies. Poland was attacked in 1939 by Germans, just casual people who were convinced to believe in their superiority. I visited Poland in March of 2022 and your paralel of comparing WWII history with Ukrainians being killed by ruSSians now was very touching and true. I have seen heart breaking stories. I have been at Warsaw central train station at 5 AM and I have seen hundreds of women with kids and very little language. I am proud of Poles, that there were no refugee camps but rather regular people give support, home and hart to those vulnerable. I did not vote for current administration but so far US did the right thing supporting Ukraine. Love your channel

  • @jerzy7118

Bev, I'm not surprised by your emotion when reading these diaries, because we, Poles, were also familiar with it, seeing how millions of women with small children walked, often 50 km, in the frost. to save the lives of their children. Poles have a lot of empathy and in the first days of the war in Ukraine, private people organized themselves, brought food, a hot meal, organized transport at their own expense, and took the night to their homes. Later, the Polish government got involved. It was a spurt of help for Ukrainians from the entire Polish society. We could not look indifferently at the suffering of mothers and children. This outpouring of help from the Poles was amazing, but the Ukrainians themselves had concerns about the Poles because of their history and were surprised by the cordiality of the Poles. When a train passed through a city, volunteers quickly entered the carriages, handing out food and water because the children and their mothers had not eaten anything for several days. There were many such events. Every city welcomed refugees, providing them with food, shelter, clothes, cleaning products, free medical care, schools for children and the warmth of our hearts to lift their spirits.

Bev, you are a force for good. My getting choked up was sometimes in synch with you, sometimes you kept it together longer than me, and sometimes I was hanging in there until I saw you choke up, which immediately did me in also. Powerful stuff, very gripping. I'm sure it's changed you forever in some ways, but I hope you can sometimes compartmentalize it, and still reach the joyful highs like when you were showing places with art that moves you. You were already on the very short list of KZreadrs who occasionally can really make my day and fill me with joy. Now you're on the even shorter list who can move me to being shaken. Both types of feelings are an important part of the human experience, important motivations to move forward doing what we can to make the world a better places, while finding our own joys, sorrows, and sources of fulfillment.

Poles are familiar with struggles in recent history. They’ve always helped out others despite not being in the best shape themselves and often didn’t get much support from others when in need. They first lost their freedom after the Partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795 and didn’t become independent again until after WWI (1918) For 123 years Poland wasn’t on the map and was divided by the Austrians, Prussians and Russians. Just two years later in 1920 Poland had to fight again in the Polish-Bolshevik war. After a couple years they defeated the Russians and were a free country until the start of WWII . On September 1st 1939 Germany invaded Poland and about two weeks later on September 17th the Soviets attacked from the other side. Once again the country was torn apart. In 1945 the country was free again, but was forced to be communist by the Russians and it stayed like that until 1989. Luckily now the country is in great shape overall. It’s not only one of the fastest devolving countries in Europe but also the world!

Beautiful story.I'm living in USA . Now in USA media not much about Poland and 5 mln refugees from Ukraine .Some of them return to Ukraine some went to other countries mostly went to their relatives .Most of them still in Poland. Look like UE especially Germany do everything to make difficult for present Polish goverment to manage.Poland should get like all EU members money from found after covit 19.They are accused Poland not respecting law by reforming judicial system. This is absurd . Looks like US liberal media are silent about help from Polish people and goverment to Ukraine since war started. Israel supports Russia letting Russian oligarch bring their possesion to Israel. Most of them Russian Jews and Putins suporters .Germany can't wait to start again do deals with Russia. During this hard times UE under German commend harassing Poland, because Poles want to reform judicial system and rule own country.Germany are responsible for present energy and political situation in Europe. The same happened in Balkan conflict where Germans can prevent actions of Serbia and war .Good Bless USA ,Poland and others, because Germany and France do not really helping solving problems.

Are you seeing any fuel shortages in Poland? People waiting for days to stock up on heating fuel or coal, reminiscent of communist times. This, because of their own government's policies.

"since the war began in 2014, it was between Ukrainian speaking Ukrainians and the Russian speaking Ukrainians. I believe that's the definition of a civil war" Not at all. >30% of Ukrainians speak Russian as their first language, Zelenski (current president) is from russian speaking family in a predominantly russian speaking city, learned English before he learned Ukrainian, most people fighting the Russian invasion of 2014 spoke Russian as first (sometimes the only) language including the "nationalistic" Azov. Vast majority of Ukrainian refugees in my country are Russian speaking. Speaking Russian has nothing to do with support for Russia/Putin/DPR/LPR/etc. What happend in 2014 was an invasion of Russian army first into Crimea, then into Donbass region of Ukraine. Minor part of the fighting was done by local collaborators (whose leaders were not local at all - please check thet the leaders of so-called 'separatists' are mostly Moscow born). One of the cases where all the names are known was shooting down of the Malaysian commercial flight MH-17. All perpetrators were Russian, the equaipment was Russian, it crossed the Russian-Ukraine border 2 days before, and crossed it back to Russia 1 day later. Etc.
