I Messed Up

Ойын-сауық

All good scientists need to be able to admit when they were wrong; be that in their datasets, methods or conclusions. Ko-Matoran Scholars are no exception to this.
In this edition of the Knowledge Tower, we address a couple of my mistakes.
New Bionicle Science investigations every month. What part of Bionicle lore do you want to see investigated next? Give your suggestions in the comments below!

    I always figured that the BIONICLE Universe map wasn't to scale because of how distorted Voya Nui looks on it. It is very much widened compared to all other official displays of the island!

    I always figured it wasn’t to scale just because of the weird proportions that wouldn’t fit inside the actual shape of the GSR. And the fact that Karda Nui would be in the pelvis of the GSR despite the fact that it’s supposed to be its heart

    honestly the pohatu feat makes the scale of great spirit even more impactful. he can run something between mach 4 and mach 10 with instantaneus acceleration and full reversal of direction. literally a split second to speedster to a nearby mountain range and back and yet to scale a direct line from head to toe still takes an ENTIRE HOUR? that's like nosediving in a fighter jet and taking a nap during it. how long would it even take to naturally fall down from the head, with my terminal velocity?

  • @Tankirb

    @Tankirb

    Terminal velocity for a human body is 200Km/h so to fall the full 12,192Km would take 60.96 hours or a full 2 AND A HALF DAYS At that point depending on when you last drank, it's entirely possible you'll die of dehydration before you die from the fall

    assuming you even get caught by the planet's gravity on the attempted skydive (i mean, you probably would, planets got a pretty big pull range)

    I'm actually interested in the acute hearing that the Matoran and Toa of Sonics. BS01 states that they can hear sounds from many kio away. And that they've trained themselves to make as little noise as possible, due to how much sound hurts them. That's insane. I sorta feel bad for the De-Matoran. Toa of this element really should be given a Kanohi Shelek.

    Yeah, the exclusion of the universe map never bothered me, because I remember Greg mentioning it wasn't to scale. The fact that that is the only official version floating around, and there's never been a more accurate version is one of those tiny things that's always disappointed me.

  • @lukestarkiller1470

    I never liked that map of the Matoran Universe anyways. The proportions and placement of the islands don’t look like they’d actually fit inside the GSR and the position of Karda Nui is shown to basically be in the pelvis of the GSR even though that’s supposed to be its heart and should definitely be up in the chest. I think that map is great for showing the relative positions of each island to each other, but not their scale or actual position in the GSR. It reminds me of old maps of Earth where the countries were kind of weird shapes and sizes because they didn’t have a very consistent way of mapping it all yet. So I feel like it works as an in-universe map that the inhabitants might use to find the general direction to travel to get to the different islands, but not a 100% accurate representation of the Matoran Universe since they don’t actually remember they’re in a giant robot.

    So you're telling me that some funky mask from a old lego series makes the user go as fast as the fastest airplane ever design being the SR-72 DARKSTAR that according to the design it could reach mach 10!?

    How soon will you do a video about the energy involved in colliding planetary bodies?

  • @theknowledgetower208

    @theknowledgetower208

    It's definitely one that's planned, but it will likely be a while. There will be a lot of groundwork to set in other videos first, sizes and masses of the planets / moons involved etc. all of which will be big enough questions to be videos in their own right. We will get there eventually though!

    Yeah, I imagine figuring out a reference point for the size of the three bodies of Bara Magna, Aqua Magna and Bota Magna will be a bit tricky.

    @@theknowledgetower208 Definitely looking forward to that series. I just have this funny feeling that the Agori need that steel structure in their bones to even stand up considering how strong the gravity would be. We've got a clear visual of the entire prototype robot in _The Legend Reborn,_ and considering how large it is compared to the GSR, the horizon is vast enough that our Earth could probably fit in it.

    5:13 I don't know if it's really the best idea to use the average english speaking speed for this example as they'd actually be speaking the matoran language here. Not only would that affect the sentence structure and therefore both the placement and length of the pause, but languages actually tend to vary with their average speaking speed as well (Spanish in general tends to be faster than english, for example). I was considering translating this into Matoric (although it's fanmade, it's the closest approximation of the matoran language I can find), but this still wouldn't address the bigger factor, that being the speaking speed
